So at the risk of sounding like a bad advertisement or like I'm trying to build up hype for my new game. I decided since it seemed like a good bit of people were interested, that I would make a post, pointing people in the direction of Arcane Tale's Project page.
http://www.create-games.com/project.asp?view=main&id=1061
Now that I've done that, I'd also like this opportunity to mention that I've uploaded a video, showing the all new engine, designed strictly under Multimedia Fusion 2's new hardware acceleration build.
I personally remade each graphic (except the player) by hand, using nothing more then MMF2 and the original graphics as a template.
This is a screenshot displaying the graphics before I completely remade them all.
PS: For all those skeptics out there, the game does have a working and optimized dead reckoning online system. The player you see in the movie, is not myself playing in two open clients, but a friend of mine who lives many states away.
PSS: I'm open to comments and questions, but I'd rather keep it more focused on the projects page, and have this topic die.
This looks great so far; at what point might you send some sort of playable beta to those who signed up? Or am I having some sort of memory lapse, and misread your post about such a thing?
Thanks for the comments. I hope to have a site up for the game soon. Until then though, keep a close watch on the projects page, because I'll be updating it frequently. The more 'hype' I see around the game, the faster it will progress, because being an MMO, I'd like to know that I have at least some sort of potential audience for the game whenever it's released.
Showing me up by replacing all those graphics I slaved over for you huh? I guess that's fine. It's good to see that you're able to do your own graphics now. Looks nice!
Looks great so far, especially the atmospheric/weather effects. Just make sure you can turn them off somewhere, in case they'd get a bit too CPU-heavy. Though, I guess that won't be a problem once a stable version of MMF2 HWA comes out.

I'll lower the amount of leaves dropped, but I think I should point out that the reason so many leaves were falling out was because someone was jumping into them. Normally the tree's don't produce many leaves, but if someone is in them, they will drop a bunch at once.

Adam actually posted in-game footage from it a couple posts back. I think it looks beautiful too. I'm not trying to compete with any game, I just want to make Arcane Tale look it's best.
I'll be keep up with updating the projects page, so keep checking there if you want to watch the progress of the game. Feel free to post in the forums to make suggestions or comments.

oh i know. i said it was "a different kind of beautiful"
i still think yours looks better in some ways. i cant wait for both. ones online and one isnt. very different.
It's a combination between Add and Subtract ink effects, with PNG's made in Photoshop. The sun bars are little more then trimmed up white gradients, and a lot of them. The way they slowly move past each other, using the add ink effect, makes them look like they're pulsating within undefined shapes.
I've got them lighty-effects in my game, but only underwater.
I think this game looks very good although some graphics have too much contrast. The bright mushroom does kinda stick out, I'd throw a new palette in there. Visually I think the weakest link are the sprites. The music is very nice too, quite Knytt-ish.
Hey cool. Hasn't this game been in progress for a long time? There doesn't look like much gameplay, except for jumping in trees I'm guessing you spent a lot of time on those weather effects.

Ever since I joined, which is since December 2004.
I used to work with him on it. But I got sick of his high-end graphical demands and left. The gameplay at that point was mainly just exploring the scenery. Brandon was having trouble getting the online enemies to work, so there wasn't any combat or anything (other than punching and kicking animations ). That was about 2 years ago. So, yea he's been working on it or a long time.
Game play is going to be more based around adventure and completing party based quests. This can include, but is not at all limited to killing enemies or solving puzzles. A system will be put in, to avoid level grinding, and will enforce working together in parties and will strongly discourage people just up and leaving, or not cooperating.
I do not want to make the cliché "hack and slash" MMO. A rather unique combat system will be implemented, but I need to enforce to everyone that combat will not be the main focus in this game.
