Today, I bought a Wii and I'm very happy with it. The last consul I bought was the N64 so I have missed out on the last 4 years of consul games aside from going to my neighbors house. Given that the Wii is compatible with Game Cube Games, what games from the previous generation are worth checking out?
F-Zero GX
Ikaruga*
Metroid Prime
Rayman 3
Robotech: Battlecry
Skies of Arcadia*
Smash Bros. Melee**
Tales of Symphonia
Viewtiful Joe
* Dreamcast ports -- Ikaruga has slowdown on GCN, but Skies has faster loading than the original.
** Brawl is a great game, but Melee's fighting engine is significantly deeper and better suited for tournament play.
And melee doesn't have random tripping over... damn you Brawl for this flaw. Brawl looks more awesome, though, and battles are much much more epic. SSE is awesome, too.
I definitely recommend Metroid Prime, though. I haven't played a whole bunch of gamecube games so I might check out some in this thread.
Casual players won't notice the change, and will appreciate the online mode and better presentation. But tourny-style players are in for a surprise when they realize that wave-dashing and l-canceling are out, among other things.
No one even said Twilight Princess !!! It was just as good as Wind Waker. Personally, i'd get the Gamecube version, but it's up to you. The games are practically identical.
Having not looked over other reccomendations yet (so repeated games are ones you should realllllly check out)-
Resident Evil 4 (GC or Wii version I suppose)
F-Zero GX
Smash Bros Melee
Metroid Prime 1 (maybe 2, it's not as good)
Viewtiful Joe
Mario Kart (its weakest in the series but theres a new Wii version coming soon)
Luigis Mansion is quite alright
Sunshine was okay too.

I hope this doesn't mean players have to come up with new strategies! That's terrible!
