Preordered mine so hopefully it will come a day early, but GAME are being tight and saying they can't promise this anymore -.- The only thing Im not so keen on are the amount of sounds Ive seen the characters make in the gameplay videos... perhaps they won't seem as bad IRL.
I'm more excited about GTA IV - only 24 days to go! Woo!
Anyway, I absolutely love Mario Kart and the new one looks just as good as the N64 one, if not better. If I had a Wii, I would definately be getting it. But I don't, so I won't.
That the beauty of GAME, James! I preorder all the "big" titles fram GAME and they post it out to you a few days before release - I've ALWAYS got my preorders a day early.
Mah sly friend is sneaking out GTA IV when his Woolworths gets it, ama gonna have to ask if he can sneak me out a Mario Kart so I can laugh at you GAME folk! But chances are I'll just get it at Sainsburger cuz its mega cheap
Probably "adorable" as so many Americans seem to say about the steriotype English and Australian accents -_-. Need to put Americans in a room of chavs then see if they call it adorable
normal as opposed to what? normalcy is based on what you are used to.
i have nothing against aussies. i just happen to find heavy australian accents annoying, not "adorable" like adam suggested.
i wonder what an american accent sounds like! since im around em so much =\ lol.
A course I took was lead by a proper darn sarf person, only 6 or so students but from Boston, Poland, Southern Ireland, Australia. Lovely melting pot of accents.
I like all em of in person. Don't like US accents on TV or film though
Cecil I think you are perhaps looking at the steriotypical Aussie accent, like so many Americans do with the English accent. Like most accents, I believe Australia has softer and Harsher accents... like in Scotland, for example. I watch Neighbours (Australian soap) every day (yes, Im sad ) and I don't really notice the accent much... probably because it's reasonably similar to some English accents, or because I watch it every day and I'm used to it >_<
haha well stereotypical or not my position stands. there may be softer accents and harsher accents, but the harsh ones annoy the heck outta me.
we had these two aussie chicks that came into my work(golden spoon: frozen yogurt), here on like a study abroad program or something, i dunno, and they had pretty harsh accents, and i had to struggle so hard to serve them.
so its not that i have a stereotypical view. i've heard em before and thats just how i feel. no biggie
To derail again quickly, no-one really talks like Steve Irwin here . Well, I tell a lie, some people do and I hate that accent so much; but I don't notice the local accent anymore - the girls sound kinda American to me half the time O_o. It varies a lot even within cities - I can't listen to some of the people who live far out of town, let alone make sense of the words they say.
Back to Mario Kart, I've got 9 days >_< - but I won't be getting it on release I bet... Come to think of it I don't even know if I've got the money right now, hope mum's feeling generous.
The Mii feature in Mario Kart looks interesting. I can't wait to play as various celebrities, video game characters, and historical or political figures.
I don't really understand why people get so excited by nintendo games. They're usually just franchise rehashes with updated graphics (or without updated graphics now we have the Wii). What's different about Mario Kart Wii compared to the Gamecube version(s)? The Wii Wheel? Most previews have said it's the worst available control option. 4-player online play? Why bother?
Normalcy is not a word. The word you were looking for was 'normality'. The word 'normalcy' was made up by one of your silly American Presidents, and then people in America tried to cover it up by telling people it was in a dictionary from the 19th century. Now Americans all go around saying it because it would be unpatriotic to think that a PRESIDENT could make up a word.
Ergh, I hate it when stupid people call me stupid.
Haha, the Wikipedia entry for Normalcy references an online dictionary to prove it's a real word.
Please no fighting on my thread. It's not something Im used to.
Also, there's every point in getting excited about Mario Kart wii, with the online features, motorbikes and tracks, don't be so ignorant and do your research before coming to such conclusions, plz.

Don't call me ignorant, Adam. You probably know a lot less about the game than me.
Motorbikes are cosmetic only, I don't see why that would make you SUPER EXCITED.
The online mode has lots of lag and no voice chat to protect ten year-olds.
Half of the tracks (16/32) are just ported from previous games.
words are added to dictionaries all the time (although this word is almost 200 years old =/ ). the fact remains that is a legitimate word. where do you think words come from? they have to be made first. language is constantly changing. don't be so naive. and also lets not go off topic.

1920 wasn't 200 years ago. The fact remains that it's not a word.
1857. thats 151 years ago. theres a debate on the coinage of the word by harding, which has long been done away with, and apparently you're on the other side of that debate. just cause YOU think its not a word, doesn't mean it isn't? why are you arguing this? the evidence is there. youre being as adam said, quite ignorant. on both these topics. wheres YOUR evidence? simply saying "a president made it up" doesn't cut it. sure he used it but there's more to it than that. stop this foolisheness.
NOW GETTING BACK ON TOPIC
the only reason stopping me from getting this game is i don't play console games much and i don't own a wii. and i have more important things to spend my money on, like school, food, gas, bills, and computer software/hardware etc.
I hate voice chat. I was once playing Dead or Alive 4 online and a 10-year-old was constantly swearing and saying other things that I think someone of that age shouldn't even know about. What if my child had been in the room? Not pleased.
I must disagre with your statement about Nintendo just rehashing old classics though, Rando. If theres one thing they do, it's the opposite of that. Same with Sonic the Hadgehog, unfortunatly. I wish Nintendo would remake Mario World or Mario Bros 3. THOSE were good games. Yeah Nintendo games are still good but their newer ideas don't seem quite as good. Ninty always seem reluctant to make a game similar to any other they've done once before. I also hate how Sonic lives with human beings in a city and can now talk.
This is all coming from a hardcore Nintendo fanboy, too.
Tell 'em Babs is 'ere...

If you hate voice chat, that's fine, it's always optional when it's there. But a lot of people like voice chat. They don't have the option to turn it on when it's not there.
And Cecil, I'm being really ignorant about Mario Kart? The stuff I said was true. Prove me wrong.
In 1857, normalcy didn't mean normality. It was a word used to describe the length of twine.
Right! Explained to an American that normalcy isn't a word, that's my good deed for the day! See you guys soon!
ME AND I HAS IT NOW LOLS. Unfortunatly GAME have been very... not nice and not given some people their copies of the game. This enrages me even tho I did get a copy, but I'll never shop with them again
It looks fun, but the screenshots seem kinda lame even for the Wii.
I'm a Wii fan, don't get me wrong, but some of those models look like they'd not be out of place on the N64. We're two generations away, people! They've got effects and stuff, but it all seems REALLY low-poly.
I've heard it's like Metroid Prime 3 in that the screenshots don't do it justice. The models do look low poly, but a definite improvement from Double Dash.
I think the models and textures are fine. Just that the game is too low res! It would look awesome would it only run in 720p with AA. Unfortunately Nintendo skimped on the Wii's technical capabilities.

OMGZ I has it. GAME had loads of them (probably because the kids are still in school) and they have a promotion- get a GAMEWARE Wii Wheel for £4.99. So I foolishly bought it, then headed on down to HMV, where they have the official Wii Wheel for £6.99. So I took the game wheel back
So it arrived! Fantastic game, really good control with the wheel, much more subtle than Excite Truck. Only played 1 GP race so far and 1 time trial on a bike. Can't wait to properly get into this
It's well good, but I get sooooo annoyed when it goes: Red Shell, Lightning, Inked, EVERYONE ELSE DRIVES INTO YOU - I haven't been able to win a full set of races yet because of that .
I personally think there's too many bananas. I played against slink the other day and it was just painful to play, sliding all over while he was miles ahead. My mum got me wii fit so Im gonna go and play that now
I also got me Wii Fit, haven't tried it out yet. I'm surprised its so readily available actually, as play.com have sold out. I just went into Woolworths and picked it up... and didn't realise how heavy the box is, I actually dropped the bag and got yanked down to the ground after it... lol what an arse.
Also got Mario Kart Wii, it's pretty good though the frame rate is lower than the Gamecube game. The wheel is good but I actually prefer playing with the Gamecube pad
So whos going to GAME at midnight on Monday for their GTA IV? My friend phoned me up and wanted me to go with him but... No. Bit of a hastle for me and seems maybe just a little silly. What do you think the chances of me going in on Tuesday morning are of getting a copy of it? Surely they'll have some copies to sell on the launch day, right? :/
Oh and let me have my say on Wii Fit. Awesome! A little pricey, but well worth it if you are going to use it properly. I've just unlocked a free jogging mode and I think it's awesome! I know virtual jogging may sound a little silly but there is something about it which seems so much better than REAL jogging (Well, to me at least )
Overall good game/software, I'd recomend it if your looking to keep fit.
I've not orgasming over it but I'll be heading out for it on Tuesday. If they don't have it I'll coem home with No More Heroes instead and still be perfectly happy.
I got Mario Kart and I don't really enjoy it. Only one, huge thing spoils it - the weapons. Rather, leading a race for almost 3 laps and then being hit with a combo of red shells, blue shells, POW blocks and then hit into the lava/water as everyone passes you. If you're reading this having not played the game, let me assure you that I'm not exaggerating. You'll be surprised at how "unlucky" the game can make you feel. The Wii steering controls are great though - time trial mode is good but eh, I wish I'd bought something else.
I'm a long time fan of Mario kart. I just picked it up today. It's fun, but it's too frustrating. I could whoop butt in any other one, but I find myself in lower places anymore. It feels kind of like it was rushed. What's extra sad is the fact that they probably won't make another better one for wii. It's a good game, and maybe I'll get used to it, but little things like drifting going too far, way to many items, slow acceleration, not fast enoughness, and the inability to turn as much as you'd like to kind of ruin it. Meh, give me a few days and I'll want to delete this post because of how much I love it. (The wii wheel feels to heavy!! And it doesn't really feel like a wheel without you having to hold it straight up, which is tiring.)
Forget everything I said. I played it again and am now in love. I was frazzled when I got home and was apparently holding the wiil wrong. I was gripping the entire thing when a loose two or three finger thing is best. I love it. Tomorrow I should get a wifi adaptor, then I'll be online! Those things I mentioned are annoying, but automatic drifting solves two of them and they're not that big of a deal.

Most "hardcore" Mario Kart players seems to use the GameCube controller though. Try that maybe?
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
TBH I've seen more players with gold wheels than gold stars (I assume gold stars are the controller equivalent?) and in most games I've played the winner isn't always using the GC controller.

I'm not the only one! It get's so bad sometimes; and all I get to throw back are BANANAS? Everyone else gets nice shells but no all I ever get are damn bananas!
Also I might pass on GTAIV, for a while at least... GTA's never hold my attention for that long :\.
I haven't tried the GC controller, but I will. I think the difficulty level is more similar to any other racing game now. I was expecting easy peasy mario kart, especially since I had just played a round of double dash, the easiest mario kart ever. The items are way overabundant. I think I saw ONE blue shell in all of my whole playthrough of the GBA one, classic tracks and all through 150cc, now I get bombarded by seven per race! They made it slightly better item-wise when you're in first place though. In double dash, you barely ever got anything like a red shell in first, now you can get them slightly easier. The game would have been alot better if they toned back item usage a bit. (Might come from having 12 racers now, 33% more.) I'm getting used to it, and liking it all the more.

But it looks very cool from what i,ve seen so i might give it a try, if i do ill give ya my mario code thingy so we can race each other!
I hope Nintendo release a Mario Kart Wii 2. Unlikely, though.
Honestly, I don't know what they'd add in a sequel. They've already got online multiplayer, alternate vehicles, recycled tracks, and new tracks with every conceivable idea in them. Also, the new tracks curve and bank all over the place like someone removed the straight line tool from their level editor.
Mario Kart Wii does do some things right, IMO, despite the unfairness factor in GP races.
I like:
The Wii Wheel
Online races and opponent matching
The omission of voice chat with strangers
The music in Moo Moo Meadows
Choice of recycled SNES and N64 tracks
I was discussing this with Slink the other day. I don't see why they've not made it like Smash Bros Brawl, and introduced all the nintendo stars, like Link and Samus, and Pikachu . I imagine a Pikmin themed race track and a Metroid track. Also a pokemon-stadium themed track >_>;...
They could have done so much more I still quite like Mario Kart though
Yeah, the new tracks will probably be game-themed. This might also help MK look better in the graphics department. There's one really nice Autumn-themed track in MKWii, but generally it looks a bit pants even for a Wii game. Playing Metroid 3 after playing Mario Kart Wii for an hour makes it looks incredible. The thought of a Metroid track reminds me of that Minority Report animated gif where Tom Cruise is chasing Mario and Toad down a hallway.
So, does anyone else keep hitting themselves in the face with the safety strap when they're pulling off tricks.. because, like, I totally don't.

That's how the Mario Kart games work. The worse your position, the better power-ups you get.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
I have taken the wrist straps off my remotes - They just tickle your wrist as they flail around. I've never thrown my remote either... well, at least not accidentally
