Not interested in Klik any more, it's all a giant waste of time. No money, no appreciation, barely any play the games you produce and the sheer amount of time it takes to make games just isn't worth it. Trying to handle a full-time job whilst making a klik game? It'd take all of any spare time you'd ever have.
That as well as getting a decent artist to help you make your games, or working with anyone to help you in areas you lack in game creation is just extremely rare, and so many people give up and abandon things... there's just no incentive any more.
I think around 80%-90% of all the decent games released were made by just one person - those rare few that are talented artists, coders and musicians etc.
I'm not sure what will happen with SilverNova yet. I might just resign in a few months time and leave it all up to Ben or whatever, and he can do what he wants with it. I'm not sure. It's a shame because the site his a regular influx of visitors still, even though I barely update it these days... and it's quite popular with the public and search engines...
Also, this community is dead now. There's just about 7 or so people that have been here since the start and a hand-full of new ones keeping this community alive. It's nothing LIKE what it used to be. Really good games might get 50 downloads if you're lucky now.. and every other game gets about 4 or so.. up to about 15 ish.
What's the point? I no longer have the drive or enthusiasm I once had. I visit here infrequently to look at the news, which is generally just another boring game. So... yeah. Those are (briefly) my main reasons for leaving this community... it's been great while it lasted guys. See ya around!
Fair doos, doesn't feel much different to me. It's just other sites popped up and people fled to them seeking a bigger audience.
Dunno what else to say really. I still find making games fun especially when you see it all in action at the end. If you've lost the spark or whatever then... Go find it?
I guess it's kind of like model building. You spend ages slaving away over your work, by the time it's finished you're proud of it. You show it to people and they think it's cool for about 10 seconds before getting bored of it.
"Dunno what else to say really. I still find making games fun especially when you see it all in action at the end. If you've lost the spark or whatever then... Go find it? "
I agree, I don't know how people can just give up making games.
I mean, the chance and ability to make decent, playable games isn't common. If you ask me (which you probably don't) I say try a different community. They're all so different, I visit CT and Tig source more than I ever used to, and they have totally different members, who don't accept anything that goes on at TDC like the spamming and attacks.
As for making decent gfx, you're being silly. You can make photoshop gfx, you do it all the time when making site designs, there is no excuse for you not to provide decent photoshop gfx for a game.
I don't think you're trying hard enough Timothy You've not shown me many of your attempts to make a game (I start and abandon several projects weekly , yet never give in like this), Ive seen about... 1 or 2 of your projects you've been working on, so you can hardly say you've tried that hard, perhaps start a small project with photoshop gfx.
Yeah I hate that! People just don't undersatnd the amount of work and time that goes into making a game. But I guess you can't really expect them to. I think making games is fun, I don't really care if I don't get any money from it, but I have to agree with the "no appreciation" thing. Even if you make a game good enough to get GOTW, people forget about it in a month or so. It does seem a bit pointless sometimes.
You can log off any time you like, but you can't ever leave.
Sorry to see you 'leave'.
We all have patches like this though, where we can't find the time or want to make games. It's not a waste of time at all, even if it feels like it. I'm pretty sure you'll come back in a few months or so and carry on making games, even if you feel you won't be at the moment (at least I hope so, anyway).
If anything, I think the community has picked up quite a bit compared to a couple of months ago. Things are quieting down now due to exams and such (for me anyway).
Anyway I disagree with some of the points you made, but I guess you can't help the way you feel.
Hope SilverNova doesn't die, and hope you decide to stay/carry on making games.
Indeed. Makes me see the sense in all the "banned Phizzy" comments everywhere. I don't know if you have the same passion that I do for making games, Tim, but I agree with Flava-- we've all had shlumps. I'm planning on making a career out of game development, and I don't expect it to be smooth all the way thorugh, but there'll be people like the TDCers for those parts...
I think we all go trough a period like this Tim. And that's ok, just do a search and find my 3 i'm going to leave forever news posts. Thing is for a lot of people this community is creapy in the way that it keeps pulling you back in.
I do not think the community is dead at all, more alive then it has been for a while now. I have been trying to do my part with the news updates and klikcast. The thing is it all comes down to perspective, for people that do not know clickteam is doing its best to promote mmf 2 to lots of people out there by showing it at all these conferences. They have been doing so for a couple of months now and i'm sure it is going to pay off.
It comes down to if you still enjoy making a game/site etc because in the end you should not make the game for others but yourself, if you have a good time and other folks enjoy it to then thats a good bonus but you need to have fun with it first no mather how the game turns out.
I hope you will come back to us after this period tim, we will be here keeping things going. "If you build it, people will come, if not right away, they will in time"
I know how it is like to be in your situation however but you will find time, i have a full time job and 2 kids, i normally update this site either when both of my kids are eating, or at night when they are off to bed, right now they are eating, lol Should i spend this time doing something else maybe maybe not. For now i found my jazz if you will.
My point is you might be focused in one direction but keep in touch and we will welcome you back on your return this community has so many creative people in it, it is very inspiring indeed.

I came to this point a while back, i stopped klicking for about 6 months. Ive been klicking for years and have never finished a project. But then one day i woke up and thought about my life. This is a major part of my life. Some people play football, some people are into films, we are all game designers.
People dont kiss arse here which is what i like about TDC, but they do appreciate the time and effort people put into their work, i surely do and i know most other people do. The problem with achieving the "Classics" ranking like the orginal klickres (Eternal Daughter etc) is that they where above and beyond what was expected from them at the time. Its much the same with the modern day commercial games companies, No matter how hard they try, the classic games will privale in nearly all indie gamers hearts and minds. People expect more from klickers today, dont get me wrong, alot of games being produced here are of a very high quality nowadays but there will be a select few that will echo in the klicking hall of fame for ever and alot more games that wont. This is life.
I have to say i agree with Phizzy on this topic, fair enough your leaving, im sad to see you go, a klicker down is sad to see, but branding it " a giant waste of time" is an insult to this community.
Indeed, but I don't think it has been. Downright doofusness has been censored. I had no clue he started a "hate campaign", but I still say it's sad to see someone er... leave.
I was wondering why nothing was happening on Silvernova. Its a shame to see you go. Hopefully Silvernova stays intact or I'll have to work my way into another site...
I "gave up" a couple of years back but some random Russian guy emailed me asking about Satan Sam 2 and why I was making that instead of finishing the first one. So I remade it as TNSS and that brought the spark back. Of sorts.
Breaks help. I hadn't used MMF in so long I forgot how to copy directions and little things like that. But really I'd just stop making games for now, focus on making art and music with the intention of not using it for games. You'll learn more and when (if) you do get back into games you can make them much better.

I dunno, I still balance klikking and a 65+ hour full time job. Albeit the progress is slow, it still happens.
Also, your games don't get downloaded and commented on if you don't download and comment on other games. You'd be surprised how well karma works around here. That's pretty much what's happening now.
You can hardly complain about activity when you contribute to the problem.
It's tough finding people to bend to your will and have them make stuff for you without paying them.
Besides the above points, I guess it's fine if you leave, though you haven't been around much anyways. Sorry to see you go, hope sometime or another you change your mind! See you.
Hey phizzy, wake up and talk to me on msn, or I'll file for divorce.

I kinda expected to see you say this at some point, since you've been so busy as of late and haven't worked on a game since god-knows-when. Still, pity to see it happen - I agree with the others though I don't think you can ever lose the passion for making games, I have to take a break every now and then but I always come back to it at some point.
It's all learning and characters building etc. anyway. I'm gonna need a new musician!
(If anyone wants to help on the music front, or in fact any front I'd appreciate it)
It really is NOT the best site for *posting* games. TDC is very small and unknown in the greater internet community. I find many of my games being picked up and posted onto other websites by bots or pilferers, which is very good since I've noticed sites like that getting 10x the downloads I'll get here at TDC.
Takes about 300x the time as any of my other projects, and will probably only see 20 downloads. But if you want your klik game to actually be played, you need to go out onto the big bad internet and look at other sites. Its really good place for asking programming questions and such, or the community, but its too small to support getting word-of-mouth games out there. Thats what sites like indygamer or tigsource are for.

yarr not much in the way of changes, but nobody downloaded it then, either. Figured I'd put it up for final release now that its abandoned. The first one was just a single level engine test, and that will get more downloads then the full game! -_-
I haven't made a gayum since 2006 but I'm still lurking here. =0
Maybe when MMF3D finally comes out I'll make some more... Or when the Java Mobile build is done. (but by then everyone will have iPhones, and no-one will want to play a crappy 2D Java game)... Hmm.

You are talking about clicking being a waste of time and that this place is not the same since people are not around here anymore.
Well, by leaving, you'r just contributing for an even more damaged comunity with less one of the common members. which is sad, and leaves us with less one person to hold up the community.
But if it's your decision....go ahead.
I'm sure there will allways those who will remain faithfull to this place and will not let it go down.
cheers!
and good luck.
Profile edited as it messed the layout of the site up.

I think 3D games shouldn't be accessible, then only people who know how to actually code will make them. Imagine a flood of awful default movement 3D games. Anyway, as well put by Phizzy, I want them to get the 2D engine sorted - 3D is overrated, if you can't make an awesome 2D game you have no hope of making an awesome 3D game.

Good coders aren't always good game designers...

You'll be back, Tim. We all came back. Once you are klik, you can never leave..
