I think it's kind of stupid that we have so many intelligent members who visit this site several times a day, yet the ones with admin powers don't seem to have much time for this site anyway. I'm not saying that WTF THE ADMINS SUX: The current administration team is fine, except for the fact that most of them don't seem to have enough time to update this site regularly. So why the hell can't we just elect a few competent regulars and make them low-level moderators, with just enough power to accept downloads and update the front page once in a while. I can't see what harm it would do.
They all have something going on in their lives, and administrate TDC voluntarily. They'll do it when they can, dont expect them to be around all the time.
On a side note, im all in favour of this moderator idea (accepting downloads/news posts for a new(good) game)
Sorry didn't see the pending downloads - adding them to the list now.
Maybe it would help if admins were made more aware of when there are pending downloads as they're quite far down the page so it's not always obvious (at least to me). *will work on it*
now i have the last post!! lol. I really would like to moderate as i am on the site even when i am at work which is probably naughty of me!!! Granted my post count isn't all that high and i might not be an uber coder but i can usually provide help when required and i am ALWAYS diplomatic.
I'm diplomatic. Plus, I'd be even more so if I were a moderator. I would try very hard not to make fun of the stupid posters. I don't have a job yet, and it's summer... HA! Now I have the last post!
Ya goofball! You made it so I couldn't edit! I was going to say, Technically I'm probably on here thirty times a day, because I exit out of the browser window and open another later. I almost always have a TDC window open.
I think a lot of the current admins already visit the site every day, so I don't think that's a needed requirement.
The problem I see is that when we visit the site, it's not always in our heads to check the pending downloads, GOTW .etc and so by the time we've left the site, we've forgotten about them. That's sort of the case more me (plus I have better things to do a lot of the time, like revision and such - though I suppose that's no excuse).
We still haven't discussed hiring a new admin, which is dissapointing, so I'll probably start the discussions now on how to go about hiring one or two new admins. It'll probably be some kind of application process or something - unless you guys have some other suggestions
Firefox bis my friend and allows me to keep tdc open all the time!!! anyway we are going slightly off topic !!! The Mods here do a fantastic Job after struggling with Day to Day life. I think Flava is one of the most active mods at the min closely followed by Muz

Lol, it's good to know I'm not the only one.
You can log off any time you like, but you can't ever leave.
I say we crab battle for it... oh wait, that's an ohio valley thing... We could... uh... I don't know. Post the solution here because I don't want to miss it by not seeing the new thread!
Well I know that the current admins don't have time, and I've started discussions between us about hiring new admins. Though to be honest though, people will probably apply and we'll end up hiring people who are in the exact same position as us. Is there anybody here who doesn't have an education or job to care about?
I already said I don't have a job. It's summer, and even before school was out, I'm homeschooled so I was on still about a much as always. I don't have kids to take care of and I'd love to have something to do. Please??

Yeah me too! I could do something you admins don't like to do.

@Flava: Not really I am sooo sad . They call me the King Geek at work!! I have made applications for work in MMF2 (which i did in my time for free!!), so in fact my answer should be NOT AT ALL!!
No. I don't have one. I made a computer program in TGF that they still use in Information Technology class (Computer class for you dummies. ) at the middle school.
This topic is so crazy I've already been posted faster than four times. Let me reword that... Four people posted a post that wasn't there when I started typing before I posted.
I would be up for doing this. I mean, I am not on 24/7, but I do come on everyday. I dont start fights with other clickers, I even try to talk on the forums as much as I can. All of my friends see me as their leader, and I am a sencible person. All that im saying is, If you think I could do this, I would deffently be up for it.
Your just jealous that you're not as awesome as me.
(And my megaman avatar )
I don't start fights, but I will say when I'm frustrated at someone's stupidity. But I would NEVER, EVER do that as an administrator. haha, I'm not the argumentative type, I hate arguments.
This thread is turning into an applications thread before any mod positions have even been announced. I think the other mods will need to discuss this before we see anything come of it. As much as i would love to become a Mod on this site i will gladly respect any decisions made by the mods.
The only guy in this thread who I think would probably be a very good mod/admin is Andy.
Sorry about everybody else but none of you are regular posters, and/or not well known enough to be mod or admin imo.
That was a little... weird. Well, this is the most I've ever posted in one topic, and I'm sure I'm annoying all of youse. So I'm actually going to (*GASP*) step away from the computer. I'll check again later. And I, as well, respect any decision made my the mod-gods.
EDIT: The first sentence about weirdness was refering to the post about respecting decisions. I'm most definitely a regular poster and have never even seen you before, Johnny Look. (Course I wasn't looking hard.) Now, I'm going to wait a few more minutes to see if something else pops up and then I will leave.

Sure you didn't, if you've been here for longer you'd have probably already seen me around. Sadly your post only proves my point.
I was trying to update, but you posted before I could. Here's what I was putting: (Also: I've been a visitor of TDC for a good number of years, but until recently it gave me a bug every time I registered. Plus I just got High-speed internet so I could post easier.) It also may be the avatar that threw me off, now that I think about it I've noticed your sig before.

Again with the post order! I was trying to post again, but someone else did and then I got Service unavailable. I was saying, Why do we need you to come in and tell us we'd be bad as mods? Hmm?
I think we should do one-on-one interviews IF they approve the idea, because scrambling to post is hard. Sorry, Codemonkey. I think we both ought to be mods since we both live here. I call the couch.

btw i don't want to compete for the job, i was offering to take some of the weight of the current admin's workload being doing some kind of minor job like becoming a forum moderator or accepting games.
Like I said you don't have any qualifications for mod and you're proving it with every post you make, live with it.
Also desperately trying to convince the admins to make you mod isn't going to help you.
Yes indeed. That's what I thought we were talking about was light stuff like that... I wasn't aware we were competing... I REALLY need to stop posting now. REALLY. I'm done. Someone give me a yell if the mods decide to recruit helpers.

Have the couch, I want the comfy office chair!
You can log off any time you like, but you can't ever leave.
DAGH! Fine. One more post since I can't edit. What qualifications are we talking about? I wasn't aware that I was trying to prove anything, and that I was unproving it. You sure are a nice guy.
EDIT: wow this is crazy. I realize that, Johnny.
EDIT EDIT: I meant that I realize you weren't applying, not that you wouldn't be good. Sorry about that.

For the record, I wasn't trying desperately to make them make me a mod. I was just saying I have time to invest and I think I could do a fairly good job. You don't have to be well known to accept downloads and put up news. (And I think a few people know me...) I think a bit of fun competition would be cool, but I don't want to just argue over it. I thought we were having fun.
I do actually quite like your idea of moderators Andy. There are people here who I would trust with accepting games .etc, but not so much being able to ban people and such. Could be a bit of work to implement, but it could be a good solution too.
im here almost every day several times a day. the only time i dont post is when theres nothing worth posting on.
moderation powers for a select trusted few who are constantly on tdc. i second it. and third and fourth it. you have to start at fifth now.
Well we do have lower level admins, which I beleive are still call Editors, the system just needs implimenting properly to take account the user level, I think its a bit mitchmatched as to what editors can and can't do at the moment, just needs unifying
where have you been? lol.
empty html tags do the trix
@flava - "The problem I see is that when we visit the site, it's not always in our heads to check the pending downloads, GOTW .etc and so by the time we've left the site, we've forgotten about them."
those should be some of the FIRST things that you check when visiting the site. shouldn't it? check for new stuff? read and respond to pm's? check forums?
if you do add something to help with the pending downloads, maybe make extra things under an admins account info under mail that alerts when there are new stuff to be checked.

Well, I saw a thread about it awhile back, but there was a brief spot where I couldn't get on TDC... (besides, I usually just read the "latest post" ones, unless there's one I was keeping tabs on. I already have my head scrambled from that. ) Speaking of which, this makes me very sad, but I'm going to cut back a bit on computer usage... I'll probably get on every day, but I won't get permanent dibs on the couch... Just when the mod thing was being speeched about.
HONK I actually would love a cheeseburger. Seriously. I just woke up and I'm typing this out in bed and I'm seriously considering walking into town for a big macdonalds dinner of burgers and wax.
The wax is my favorite part of McDonald's meals. If any of you are ever around the Cincinnati area of Ohio, go to Goldstar Chili and get a cheeseburger and fries. If you're lucky, the one you went to will toast the bun... MMmmmm...
I haven't had a BK burger in a good many years, because mum doesn't like BK, and I always get a chicken sandwhich. I love Bk's fries and frozen cokes, but we never go! NARG! The last time I had one I thought it was too burnt, but that was years ago and it might've just been a bad one.
