Jobs!!

Question!!

Handling your money can suck, but I'm considering making an app to help a little, and wondered if you guys would kindly tell me if you'd consider using it.

The Idea:

You set up your Bank Account(s) in the program, and tell it what the starting balance is.

You can then create some MoneyMan Accounts (technically they're called Analysis Accounts), which split your bank accounts up.

This way you can divide your money up, and use THIS as your available balance, rather than the balance on your bank account. It's proven to help you save money.

E.g:

You got 3 bank accounts: a Current, and two Savings.

You can divide these up into, say:

"Money to spend in the month"
"Petrol Money"
"Bills (Heat 'n' Light)"
"Rent"
"Holiday Fund"
"New Car Fund"
"General Savings"

So your bank accounts may contain:
Current: £1,500

Savings a: £2,500
Savings b: £ 500
----------------------
TOTAL: £4,500

But your MoneyMan Accounts contain:
"Money to spend in the month" £ 100

"Petrol Money" £ 250
"Bills (Heat 'n' Light)" £ 400
"Rent" £ 750
"Holiday Fund" £ 575
"New Car Fund" £ 1,000
"General Savings" £ 1,425
---------------------------------------
TOTAL £ 4,500

I currently do this with an excel spreadsheet, and it's worked ok so far, but it needs a few more features that don't really fit excel. The advantage of this system is it would be able to work back to show you what the balance of your bank accounts should be, so you can compare it, and various other stuff.

I probably wouldn't. I don't handle budgeting too well... it makes me notice that I have money to spare and I end up spending more than I should.

I might consider using it, I tried to do it via the whole excel method but after a while I couldn't be bothered trying to remember what I spent that day and working it all out etc.

if it could actually connect to your bank account that would be cool but that would cause waaaay to many security issues.

I go to an adult day care center during the day... It pretty much sucks, but I do have a job. It's one hour a day, five days a week shelving books in a library. It doesn't pay because I'm a volunteer, but I do plan on doing something some day. Since I have nothing but free time on my hands and no car. I've really been hammering my crappy graphics portfolio into shape so the great job hunt is coming soon, I can feel it. My bills are paid anyway...

It's a nice idea but tbh I think people wouldn't want the hassle - too much administration.

Uh, I think the point of having a program to do it is to get rid of the administration.

Dines, I think there are some programs that actually do it for you; try and google some. I spent some time trying to figure a way to make a program that could manage my klik projects and just found a few (well, quite a lot!) on Wikipedia a few weeks ago. They also help make schedules and stuff.
