You can join in late still, but you get three losses immediately on joining. With just over a 1/4th of the constestants left, the competition will be be stronger from now on!

Looking over the scores, I started noticing one category that was consistently lower. Here are some extra lives.
SCORING!
Theme: Game over, continue?
There are two different 'paths' you can take for this theme with different scoring categories. You can either
-Continue an older game entered in the tourey
-Create an entirely new game.

haha theres no insentive for them. they could make a game in there own time and not be hassled by competition restrictions. has anyone even joined late and submitted an entry knowing it wouldnt count?

Sorry I guess my humor doesn't really come off as humor, does it? I'll try harder.

lol i wish I had made it more obvious that after beating the tower, you had to go south of the town to the funky little cave. I think a lot of people quit after seeing phizzy, but that might have been for other reasons
Ha ha, nevermind! I was just pointing to my recommendation about this round's theme in the previous thread, though that was just one half of the current one.

I guess I should read the other topic...
"Isn't it always amazing how we characterize a person's intelligence by how closely their thinking matches ours?"
~Belgarath
Since I lost, I am not in the competition. However, I have decided to join the competition, I will get three loses. The rules say that when you have two losses (not two or more) you lose. Because I have three, I am now invincible!
If you count the other two from before, I have five, which makes me uber invincible!
Also, the rules don't say you can't join once you lose, so there.

Immortality comes at a price...
"Isn't it always amazing how we characterize a person's intelligence by how closely their thinking matches ours?"
~Belgarath
-_- Wow. I've only started reading this topic like, a week late.. here I was relying on the front page "latest post" to reveal this topic, instead of searching for it myself. Oh well. So the theme is "Continue, or don't continue"? Sounds like.. you could only score low in that category if you "half-continued" a game. Are we going to be required to include a splash screen or the likes?
No I don't think so, Peblo can probably tell if it's a new game or a continued one, though it'd be more helpful of us to mention the previous submission in the Readme.

Truthfully, now that we're down to this many people, it'll be hard to get away with cheating like that. Your opponents will be watching
"Isn't it always amazing how we characterize a person's intelligence by how closely their thinking matches ours?"
~Belgarath
Well the reason I was suggesting the splash screen is not so much to prevent people from "continuing a game without saying they are", as much as it was to prevent the earlier problem I had mentioned, where people could in theory just submit a commercial (albeit obscure) game, and claim it as their own, remembering that you don't require the source of the game. I mean, of course you don't have to enforce this condition, I would just see it as being for good measure.

It is a good measure, I just forgot this round.

This thread is so short! Too short in my opinion, that is why I have decided to post this poem;
It rained today.
Water, I presume.
It could have been chocolate,
but I'm quite sure it was water.
If it really was chocolate,
boy do I regret not going outside!
I'll probably never know.
I'll probably never know.
The sound is horribly out of sync, but... yeah, this is level 1 of my game. I might just cut it short to a level or two and call it a "ShareWare demo" to make it techinically complete.
Believe it or not, I'm making a bat and ball game. Every time I've had to start late, and every time my original idea keeps changing until it's a completely different game. I'll have to be ingenius to think of a good "game over, continue" system.

Well, let me see... Jonny's recent platformer Run or get mechanically seperated was very short but still quite fun - I may release a Part II to this game for the next round if I can. I'll squeeze in at least 3 levels, I know that. I'll also add in high scores so there's at least some reason to replay it.

I won't disagree with you there, but I imagine it would've been more fun if it had been longer. It still shouldn't make that big of a difference.

there is a known bug: you may get instant "succes", random somethimes created the same picture as the original. and i could not figure out how works the while object ;*-(
anyway I hope you will like it!
ok here it is, it's bit buggy, but i don't have time, so anyway there is an X in the corner to close screens,
Those buttons down at recruit are for research new units. It's not balanced but it's ok.
Anyway there is no music. And that's it.
Hempuli, that game was ridiculously cool, you know that right? Its kind of funny, the game that I started working on, but didn't have time to finish, was a really souped up platformer with lots of time-based effects; I had a full system in place to stop time/reverse time, like prince of persia. Odd coincidence

you play as a swordless knight
trying to find the fabled gold
of the gold city
you control with the arrow keys
shift to jump
r to restart
there are 3 songs that play during the game
when the last one finishes you die
but if you collect an orb it restarts the song
you also die if you run out of hearts
Originally Posted by Pixelthief ok time for me to start playing the games! So far Hempuli's & Bibins have been awesome. I wouldn't suggest trying mine...
Well, mine won't be up for the gotw anyway. I decided to remove the download since there's just to many small things I want to include with the public release. And Peblo's already got a copy of my entry, so yeah . Really should've waited with adding it to the downloads. Oh well, nothing to do I guess. I'm really looking forward to seeing the scores for this round!
Yeah Bibin your game would have won on an ordinary week. Too bad (for you) that Friendly Strike 3 and Lil' pirate were released at the same time I would have voted for yours otherwise.

Hey, scores up tomorrow or friday... sorry, I'm addicted to a few of the games.
"Isn't it always amazing how we characterize a person's intelligence by how closely their thinking matches ours?"

I dunno, sending in nothing is a pretty good way to get creativity points, as well as graphics; all he'll see is the blank TDC page, which has some nice graphics too. That'll get you at least 20 points right there! Also, the appeal might get you some points. For technical, well, right there you've got those nice ASP pages, but all the various bugs might cause some serious issues in that category.
So yeah, you've got a good chance to win as long as you consider the tourey forum topic your entry.
.....A tie? Well that's weird. I suppose you could approximate fairness by selecting one of them
at random to win. Or give the person who submitted their game to you first the win. Or you could
give it to the person with the higher aggregate score thus far (probably a little unfair to those
who submitted joke games or non scored games earlier on).
Hehe, I bet he played my game for two minutes before giving up. Thats about as long as I took to make it.
>_> Well, if I'm not out this round (Which I don't see happening. ) Then I'll start early next round and actually make a game with good graphics and gameplay and solid programming instead of a slapped together idea with slapped together graphics.
I don't know if that would work.
The total accumulated points is pretty good, as long as both particiPANTS have submitted the same amount of games i.e no one of them has had an instant win.

That's showing bias, I can't just regrade them, they'd come out with the same score.

Sudden death round? Like a showdown for the tied couple? Do the other people get to relax during the Showdown then? Oh oh oh! You could have a one-day showdown for the two! That'd be awesome!

Heheh... I've been so pressed for time, and unfortunately the tourey had to wait. I'm in the middle of moving (again). BUT here's your results, I'll post the pairings, the sudden death, and the theme when I get to the new place. With the 5th round starting also comes the removal of teams! You're on your own now!
Codemonkey you have to face-off with Bibin! I would be pretty nervous, but then again you managed to make a game to equal with his, so may the best man win!
If Peblo decides on a 1 week long sudden death what are we others gonna do in the meantime? I don't mind a break at all, but I'm not sure how many is with me.
Breaks are good. Except for the part where we will start up again around my exam block. :/ But hey I'm happy to just have been able to participate in this competition, it's been a lot of fun and a great excuse to finally get into some game-making. And just look at the amazing games it has produced in such a short time, it's incredible what a bit of motivation can do for TDC. But I digress. A break would not bother me.
