Hmmm, well this is just random. I was wondering that there are a lot of clickers here who are guys. Like almost all of them or at least thats the impression I get so forgive me if I am mistaken. Just out of curiosity, are there girls here as well? If not, then how come only guys are interested in making games? Once more, this is only out of curiosity.
Last time I asked that, the anger level was so high that the thread got locked within a day
I'd boil it down to a few things:
1. Girls are statistically more interested in creating things involving biology than engineering. In that sense, a lot of them are great artists, though, but you'll find most of them on deviantART rather than making games.
2. Girls can't weather out the heavy flame wars that happens within the Click Community. A lot of guys can't either, but girls are more sensitive to it.
3. Girls get nervous when surrounded by men. Ask most girls why they don't go to the gym. Ask yourself why you wouldn't go into a room full of girls.
4. Some of the younger klikers try to hit on them and some of them get quite annoyed by it.
There was one time before an official community existed when the ratio was more like 10:1. Now it's a lot worse. And they do make games. Look at the GameMaker, RPGMaker, The Sims modding communities.

haha, actually I would go into a room full of girls but yeah, your response explains a lot, esp the 'flame wars' bit that I have never participated in btw and...bugger @ tigerworks. jk.

Just be prepared for an influx of DC mails. If any of them bother you content wise, hit that admin alert button and the admins will take care of it. We've had some issues with the younger male TDC members being a bit...over enthusiastic in the past.
@Joellie: Heh, I'd bet you're just a guy pretending to be a girl for attention. But I won't because that would incite yet another girl thread flame war
Anyway, I summarized all those points from observations on my girlfriend and ex-gfs. Girls mix as well with technology as everyone else, but seem to have different interests. Just the way that you won't see many guys taking cooking or tailoring (but ironically, most master chefs and fashion designers are male).
The part about girls getting nervous surrounded by males is definitely true, especially for the shy ones. I've seen how patterns on IRC channels, online games, and websites would oscillate between a high male or high female population. And how the rate of fake accounts go up like crazy when there's there's an imbalance between the two

Erm lol OK well. How can i prove to you that im a girl?
it annoys me that you steriotype us so much lol whats this with cooking and tailoring?! everyone has their own rights. Not ALL girls are shy, i for one am not. Males arent some kind of superior species, i have just as much right to be confident and myself around you than i do with other females.
"@Joellie: Heh, I'd bet you're just a guy pretending to be a girl for attention. But I won't because that would incite yet another girl thread flame war "
Joellie, how bout asking some of your friends to make games as well? It's good for everyone. I never said that all girls are shy, I'd just like to see the shy ones around here more. I know a few great female klikers who've gone to AGS, RPGMaker, GameMaker, and deviantART permanently. Considering that we have a 99% male population here, it suggests that we could double the size of the community if people didn't scare girls away from making games.
Um, if you do go to cooking, tailoring, and biotech classes, you'll find that males are a minority there. And you won't find too many in game design or engineering classes (and websites), either, unless there's a quota. It's just the way the flocks flow, everyone's made themselves into a stereotype.
(I find it awkward that that I have to reword every sentence carefully to avoid offending both males and females. You TDCers are so sensitive )

Lol Anticecil thanks hehe i didnt mean that in a patronizing way, i know there are married people and parents here i was just making a joke
Muz, Alot of my friends AREN'T into gaming and such, but that doesnt mean there arent girls who are. I dont think you guys scare women away, to be honest, you came across really sexist! At the college i go to, the cooking course has equil male to female ratio, it may differ in other places but generally, i know more male cookers than i do female cookers.
We havent made ourselves into steriotypes, no one has, you cant just say women are shy, women are sensitive to arguments and women go to the gym less than men, it puts all women under that catigory, no you didnt say 'ALL WOMEN' but just by saying them as if theyre facts, your implying they are.
I know you have a point that there arent females here, but i dont think its anything to do with the community here. Its just that, diviantART is more of a place to put up pictures. I dont think a whole thread needed to be made about the fact there arent women because that is something that makes women feel a bit funny about joining up. (I know you didnt make the thread im just saying as a general feeling on this whole thing)
If your that bothered then tell your female friends about gaming. All im saying is i dont agree with what you listed. The last time i checked everyone is an individual with their own personality and own traits. Just because someones a girl or a boy doesnt make them more likely to want to make a game.
Alright, I'm not going to say anything else, otherwise this thread will be deleted or locked by the time I get back. I've been around TDC long enough to know that if you defend females, the males go berserk and vice versa
I'll just end to say that I am sexist, simply because there are biological and cultural differences to both sexes. And that causes a difference in the way they react around each other. Nothing about women or men being inferior, just different.

OK, I just dont see why there has to be so much of a wedge between both sexes. Were all human
Im not gonna comment on this anymore, As for everyone reading this, I dont care if you dont believe that im actually female, im here to get advice on my games, and thats all that really matters.

I'm actually a sexy transforming robot.
Random question: are you into theatre/drama? I notice that a lot of gaming-inclined ladies are also theatre-inclined. Which is bad news for me since most theatrefolk dislike me after a while for some yet-unknown reason.
Mmm no i dont like drama really lol Do you mean like, classes in a school wise? or just general interests? I like watching shows, i dont think id enjoy to go there all the tiem
Well people are usually forced to grow up in a stereotypical male/female way. Girls have long hair and wear pink and Boys play with cars and have short hair. Thats how people are programmed when they're growing up. Of course there is more to it than that.
Maybe boys like to play games because it's technology and girls prefer to draw pictures of ponies or something because of the same thing.

That is just wrong
I'm actually more of an artist than a technician. My natural talent is in language, apparently I'm good in English even though it's not my first language. So, I end up using that talent to learn programming languages, but looks like I'm finally getting the hang of math.
I see games as an art form, just like architecture. You spend a lot of effort into making something beautiful. I see a lot of technology lovers in this field, they end up making the nicest engines and stuff, use game design theory to the letter, and wonder why people prefer games like Jeff Pwns II and Knytt Stories. You just gotta love what you do.
Boys play games because their friends play games. My sister plays games, but only her friends who have brothers play games. Could be because they don't have any friends who play games. I won't make any judgement why it's so, just an observation.

Anyway, just to clear this up, I didnt start this topic to make girls "feel a bit funny" about joining TDC or anything of the sort. Like I said before, I was only curious as to why there are only guys in TDC while clearly the male-female ratio is far more equal in places like Deviantart. I apologize if it seemed like something else.

Then you are by definition not sexist; sexism is the belief that one gender is inherently inferior/superior to the other, and not the observation or claim of difference in itself. This also applies to those other attitudes concerning somatic differences, the obvious example being racism, which similarly requires the belief or implication that one race is inferior/superior to another.
