I also think it's a good idea, for the above reason as well as other instances recently (most notably Jeff Pwns II). I've always said that zero star ratings have their place (see Super Smash Bros. Awesome, i think it was called!), however it shouldn't be abused to try and destroy a game's ranking because you disagree with it. I also disagree with voting 5 stars for non-perfect games, yet this doesn't actually offend anyone, does it? Down-scoring a game does. Also, in my opinion i haven't seen anyone up-grading a game by giving it 5 stars when they think it doesn't deserve it - i think this is actually more a case of people being over-enthusiastic over games.
And some people just think that 4/5 or 8/10 is 'average' when rating a game (see the article, "8/10? Why do you hate my game?")...
Actually, you know what? I think people down-voting a game is absolute shite! However, since this is a democracy i'm going to say "let's leave things as they are". Radical, i know. It's pissing more people off than it's helping, which was the whole point of it all. If the people it's supposed to be helping don't care then what's the point? I'll just bite my lip in the future if anyone brings this subject up again. Maybe if everyone does the same then the down-voters might get bored of doing it. And if they don't? Well, who cares anymore!
Now let's all get back to making great games! Incidently, i am enthralled by the concept behind Zombie Pwned at this minute in time

Some of us think dishonesty is absolute shite, in the form of 0-stars or 5-stars. Let everyone vote how they want, having the admins delete votes won't instill the value honesty.

I don't really pay much attention to the ratings. I go by comments of sensible members in the community. Experience has told me which members those are. So really, either way is fine with me. However, overreacting about whether the feature should or should not be implemented is just as annoying to me as the problem itself.
Damnit, the problem isn't the system.
We need to help each other, this isn't a popularity contest as i have already said.
Get rid of the ratings altogether and encourage people to make decent constructive reviews.
Telling someone you found their game boring is useless. Telling someone their game is your favourite game ever is nice, but ultimately pointless. Telling someone their game was ok is also pointless.
That is what the rating does. It's all a load of meaningless numbers.
For god sake please start enjoying all the great games all the users have created in their free time for you to enjoy.
I don't mean the community is dying. I mean this was a nice site 2 weeks ago and now it's crybaby palace again. It's back to talentless jerks giving good games bad ratings and everybody being nasty at each other. I was just getting ready to share my games here again, put I don't see the point now.
I don't think TDC is so bad. I'm still enjoying peoples games, comments and ratings don't matter that much. It's easy to be happy, all you have to do is not care, lets all try it
No you're not, you're fairly peaceful, unlike me at the best of times. I think it would be worse if I never made games though, Id have little purpose here, like some of the people that go around TDC and release one game every 3 years.
even at the risk of being shouted at,
im gonna say no, this is a bad idea, and for sure it'll be abused in some way, somewhere along the line.
and it'll get people mad too, and cause a whole new war.
maybe allow people to change their ratings tho, incase they change their mind about what they think a game deserves
To be fair the admins are only removing ratings that are blatant attacks. I'm pretty sure if people rate a game 0 stars and have a good reason to (more than "I didn't like this game" or "I was in a bad mood") then there wouldn't be any need to delete a rating and we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now.
I think that this solution is really good!
Why is that you say?
Well, the most obvious point being that the people in a position to abuse the rating system now is admins, not users or fake accounts, but our admins.
Second point is that an admin is only allowed to change a vote "If the comments in the rating suggest this was only done to rate the game higher or lower without proper explanation to support the users rating. This also includes if no comments were given with a rating."
Third and final point, can anyone even imagine the gigantuar flaming that would ensue if an admin abused his/her power to remove ratings? That person wouldn't be an admin for long. I personally believe that our admins are wise enough to think twice if they -against all odds- felt an incontrollable urge to abuse power on TDC.
And about the cowmunity is teh evldie666 I would like to point out that it sure as biscuits is not. A few days ago it was [insert flame WWII here], but now the rain has stopped and the sun has come out. (Look at me! I'm getting a tan!)
So instead of us being grumpy and leaving we should appreciate the very quick and effective actions taken by our admins to satisfy as many of us nagging users as possible.
I thank Rikus and his squad of merry men for bothering to listen to all petty bickering for the 9000:nth time to begin with. Thank You!
I think we should all express some gratiude towards them.

jrp is the only one i can think of that constantly votes every single peice of crap game a 5 because its "the coolest game ever goodjob!"
well if everyones cooled off a little now, id like to point out that everyone should go out and re-favorite their games! Props to the admin that added the favorites to the downloads list
I think we might be beating a dead horse here. I brought this up almost 2 months ago and there's been 3 or 4 more posts about it since, and we haven't actually gotten anywhere. . .

Its hard to get back on topic now. JustinC I don't get what you're talking about? This thread is regarding the new system where by admins can remove ratings? You do realise it's not an idea anymore right? Perhaps I'm just being dumb
I just had this odd idea on how we could get these things to work, like if we made the conscious effort to vote what we feel a game deserves on ratings, we made reviews, stopped censoring opinions, deleting posts, banning people, and when people acted out of line by voting 0's or being obnoxious, we simply ignored them instead of making 10 page threads about it. You know, that whole, "if you don't pay attention to him, he'll stop" sort of thing.
I like it. Now people could accuse me of deleting ratings for games I like/don't like

I like the notion of removing everything numerical. Reviews, ratings, etc. People seem to get too flustered by these numbers, so removing them should fix it, right? Or, make them visible only to the authors.
I pretty much think Nim's idea on the latest news post was great. Give members the decision if they want people to rate their game when they upload it to the site

That's a very good idea. Both Youtube and Deviantart have options to stop comments and ratings, but you can 'favourite' anything.
Critique can still be sent through PMs, emails or instant messaging stuff. But for some folk it can prevent people from spamming some games. Bad side to it is they can't have their game rated out of 5 (which, given the few people abusing this to form what they believe the top rated games should be, could be a good idea).
I figured the topic name was meant to be a question, he said "insert views here" so I assumed he was asking if we liked the idea or not and whether it should be implemented. . .

The trouble is that although it's nice to get good ratings, apparently you don't need to suggest any improvements unless you give a lower score than everyone else.
So in the case of a pretty nice game like... Say, A game with a Kitty. Everyone likes it and gives great scores but Bernie has gotten little to no useful feedback.
This creates a situation where all the rest of his games pretty similar to all the older ones. Any little flaws in the formula are more likely to remain because no one told him about them. They're all still good games of course. Personally I want to see something more and I'm sure pushing for improvements will help the overall quality of games from going stale.
Hey, so what are your opinions on which ratings should be removed? Because some people are voting 0 because the links don't work and some people are voting 5 because they like the guy who created it.
I'm thinking that a vote of "5 stars because its shiney" is deserved
I'll definitely remove a few of the old ratings where the guys said "I meant to vote 5 stars, but I voted 0 because they were the same color". And the obvious downvoting/upvoting votes.

Frankly, I think the only ratings that should be removed are ones from fake accounts done just to lower a game, like if I made 50 different accounts and downvoted everyone else and upvoted myself with them. As long as its 1 rating per "real person", let them rate it what they want. If rating something and changing your mind is the issue, than let people change their ratings

i think voting should be allowed to be anonymous, like just have the stars at the side, not part of writing a comment. That way people can vote what they really think without having to take into account what everyone else is going to think of them for their vote afterwards.
"That would just make it even easier for people to vote 0 stars for the people they dislike. "
that hardly ever happens, those that do seem to do it regardless. It would mean more people could vote 0 stars who actually think the game deserves it!.. which is a good thing.
"you can already do that by making a rating post, and deleting it. "
but wouldnt that mean i can not make any comments after that or it would show my vote. (btw i personally would vote how i really felt regardless of whether people saw it or not)
Well now that the top downloads are no longer based on people's ratings and the overall star rating is no longer shown, I don't think there is any reason for admins to remove 0 star votes. Course, there is no longer a reason to vote 0 stars on something just to bring the rating down.
Anonymous voting would end up thoroughly screwing it up... like with the articles. I mean seriously now, I know some articles are not useful to the experienced kliker, but do most articles really deserve to get below 3 stars? 0.7 stars? Damn, TDCers can be so mean.
I'd prefer it if votes were anonymous, but only visible to admins, like with the articles That way, people could vote what they think the game deserved, but be reluctant to downvote something for the sake of downvoting, like what the old downloads rating system did.

I don't comprehend requests for anonymous voting. Really. This system works. Your opinions should be public. Why do you want to hide them?
My only problem is 5 stars rating. I would prefer 10 stars ratings. At least then we would see more 8/10 and 9/10 ratings, instead of so many inane 5/5 ratings for games that don't deserve it.
For the past month I was more annoyed with devs and fan boys moaping about people giving honest ratings, than with the actual downrating (what a stupid term).
A quite fair chunk of MMF developers need a reality check and get out of their Daily Click box. 1 hour dev games suck. Period.

There doesn't seem to be a guide on what the ratings are for, So you can forgive someone for rating a game 5 stars because they think it's pretty good. I take everything into account myself, but really no matter what you do 5 stars is terribly inaccurate.
I'd say you'd have to forgive someone who rates a game 0 stars because he thinks it's not worth the time downloading. But for some reason people take great offense at that.

The problem is people assume voting 0 means doing it to ruin a game's overall rating. Of course that is the reason in a lot of cases, but now people are going to accuse all users who rate 0 of 'downvoting'

That wasn't the case. I was unable to download because it was hosted on a shit hosting service that kept throwing "currently unavailable" messages every time I tried.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
