...actually, following on from my last post on the "what games are you currently playing" thread, i just purchased Nightmare Creatures 2 for the Dreamcast off eBay. My girlfriend is gonna be soooo happy with me for bringing more 'crap' into our flat!
My question is has anyone played/used to play Quake 3 on the Dreamcast? I wanna know what it was like on there; how it played, how the controls were and how long were the loading times? I have it on the PC (which is great) and the PS2 (which had will-shattering loading times) and am tempting to get it for the Dreamcast just for the split-screen multiplayer aspect of it and i need some advice.
I had it for Dreamcast, I think it was actually the first online game I ever played! Definitely far better than the PS2 version (which I picked up a couple of years later or so but didn't like the load times). It loads more quickly, looks better and plays better (if you can find the will to buy a DC keyboard and mouse as well its perfect).
I have the official keyboard and mouse too they were in Poundland!
Mark I think it's a copied game though. Its in the original case but the disc itself is a copy (it came with about 6 legit and 30 copied games ).
When i bought the console it was with 11 games, which were;
Sonic Adventure,
Jimmy White 2,
Sydney 2000,
F1 World Grand Prix,
The Next Tetris,
Street Fighter 3 (not sure which version),
Incoming,
SEGA World Soccer 2000,
Sega Rally 2,
Stunt GP,
2K Athletics.
I'd also bought House of the Dead 2 with an official lightgun, then i bought Nightmare Creatures 2.
So you're saying Quake 3 is worth buying - i'll do that then! Any other suggestions??
Yeah loved the first one too. I'm sure the sequel was on PS1/PS2 as well, but not sure which one it was on. Love beat-em-ups so i'll defo try those out. Any idea what Soldier of Fortune was like on Dreamcast?
Funny, i have Quake 3 and Unreal tournament for my ps2 and Quake 3 is a much better port. Unreal tournament also has slow loading times (they're both Cd roms) and both limit the bots you can have.
All in all Timesplitters 2 is much better. Pity that's not on the Dreamcast really.
Ive heard good things about Furfighters on the dreamcast. We used to have fun playing the demo, two on controllers and one with a fishing rod, heh.
Just bought Hidden and Dangerous and SEGA GT for £3.99 each (inc. P&P) off a shop on eBay; the mail-girl is gonna be well busy at my place this week. And my girlfriend is gonna be well pissed when she sees all this stuff arrive.... think i'm gonna keep this all a secret til she sees it for the first time - i love receiving a good ear-bashing!
Other games i want are;
Quake 3 (defo!)
Mortal Kombat GOLD
Rival Schools
Marvel vs Capcom (1 or 2)
Jet Set Radio
Crazy Taxi
Shenmue 1 and/or 2
Get Bass (with rod)
Metropolis Street Racer

Oh aye!
That's a mighty fine list, forgot to say Crazy Taxi but yea - great game! TBH I bought a DC all happy (was only £30 with all them games, 3 regular controllers AND a freakin arcade joystick!) but I didn't play it much think I might bring it out too.
The Streetfighter/Capcom vs. games are excellent multiplayer games. Seaman was supposed to be quite good too
I thought the dreamcast was great when all of my friends owned one back in 1999/2000 but i waited for the ps2. It's a pity it fared so badly because it's a brilliant machine with some stunning games.
I'd recommend Outtrigger. It has splitscreen and a solid 60 fps framerate. Dreamcast is also the only way to play this game unless you happen to stumble upon a NAOMI arcade machine (which is pretty much a dreamcast with extra memory anyway)
Quake 3 Arena is a good port.
Unreal Tournament. It's a great game but unfortunately the fps is not as solid as with Q3A and Outtrigger. Note that the DC version has some exclusive maps that's not in the PC or PS2 versions.
All three games support keyboard+mouse controls if you have them.
Also I would recommend Daytona USA 2001 for Dreamcast. Great racer, and the dreamcast version is the best home version available.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Of course, Crazy Taxi, Daytona et al, i forgot about those! Such a shame this was SEGA's last console, it had some great games... Oh, i forgot, i need to buy Powerstone too!
My Dreamcast came this morning with all the games i bought - 15 in all! My gf was not amused, until i got her playing the athletics games (button bashing she quite likes). And she kicked my but at it too!
Have to say though, great graphics for a decade-old console!
