Wow, thanks a lot for the support guys. Using my brother's comptuer at the moment. I think its most probably the thermal paste (Thanks BrandoncC). When I was upgrading the mobo and putting the processor in it, I didnt know what the hell it was. I thought it was some weird dust or something on the processor so I scraped it off. Did my research on it and apparently its very important.
Haha, yeah, so I just got thermal grease from Frys. I'll put it in a little later and let you guys know if that was indeed the problem. The stupid fan is a bi*** though. The plastic screws are really hard to plug back in. As for laptops, I think they are used to 60-70 C. Their temperature varies a lot, if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, thanks a lot Lets hope it is the thermal grease and not anything else.
I did check whether it is acceptable for the processor to run this hot. Apparently it isnt. The mobo shows a red light whenever it reaches hot temps so I wouldnt think so.
Lol, you scraped off the thermal paste? The fan's supposed to be tough to screw and unscrew - since it's so important, it's not even suppose to shake at all, or be loose or anything. Heh, and I think laptops are better at heat because it has better ventilation than a desktop.. but you'd have to be crazy to put something at 100 degrees C on your lap
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Not entirely sure if I'd consider a laptop better at getting heat off. A laptop has 1 ideal flaw when it comes to releasing heat, and that's the fact that it's releasing heat into your lap, which isn't the best heat sink in the world. Cases generally, if they're well designed, can produce a lot of air flow around them, and if you don't mind it being rather unattractive, you can even take the side off with little ramifications.
Yeah, I scraped it off. I had never heard of thermal paste at the time so yeah, I thought it was some sort of dust or something haha. Problem with lga 775 socket fans are that their screws are plastic and really hard to tell if they are completely fitted. The fan doesnt move and Im pretty sure its fitted but then I'm still able to move it like 2 mm. It's not completely rigid. Oh, I applied the thermal paste to it. It runs 10 C cooler It's still a little hot I suppose. Does about 60 when programs are running but its better than doing 70-80 so I'm happy.
The 9600 GT is supposed to be a good video card right?
Okay, hang on hang on. I just got speedfan to do some readings for me and it shows
CPU - 60C (stays almost the same idle or otherwise)
Internal Temp - 47C
Temp3 - 39C
Temp4 - -128C Temp4 is -128C?? How's that even possible? It probably means there's no temp4 right?
HDD - 36C
Here's an image:
I'm guessing since it shows the CPU load bar under -128C, its somehow related to it? Faulty sensors?? Stumped...
This is quite strange, as my Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz can be ran bare and will underclock to maintain ~40˚ C. The one in my 2009 Mac Mini (Not bare!) runs around 35-45.
