Sorry about reviving this, but I just got back from vacation. I tried bouncing ball but it didn't really work out with what I wanted. Spitznagl's seems like the best bet. Thanks you guys!

You could also try to complicate it, for example, making a large invisible circle always have the position of the enemy, and if the player overlaps it, then have the enemy look in the direction of the player.
That way, its like, he notices when your near, and chases you down.
