I saw a t-shirt the other day. It had an orange kitty floating up in a cloudy sky wondering where it's going. It looked near identical to my avatar kitty. So needless to, I got a game idea from it. Things are still brewing up in my head, but so far, the gameplay consists of:
-traditional get things for people starter level to get players used to controls. It starts out as a platformer, but quickly changes after the second "story sequence"
-the kitty somehow grabs onto a balloon and it starts floating up into the upper atmospher. It is here that it's revealed that the kitty's home is an sky island. The kitty sees that he's floating up to a huge cavern of some kind. Here, he is met with an owl-like alien (think Q from star trek, only nice). Saying that if he takes the challenge he may save the world and yadda yadda yadda. The kitty has some abilities to help. The biggest one being is a Portal like headband device.
-After entering the first cavern, the gameplay takes on a vertically scrolling metroidvania type feel. At one point if the kitty ever lets go of the balloon, he falls into the death spikes. Though from time to time it may be necessary to do so. The kitty collects an enhacement, a "double jump boots(?)", confronts the boss at the end, and flies up to the last room. Only to run into a stargate like device that teleports him back into the sky, and, below another cavern like structure.
-here, he remembers his cell phone, and upon attempting to call, gets attacked by some things that makes him lose it. From here on, he has no choice but to continue his adventure.
-game saving will theoretically be a chapter selection based on password security megaman type menu thingy.
-must be willing to use Skype for communication purposes. Github will also be central to data storage.
That's basically my starter premise, of course, ideas are still brewing and I'm not starting to look at this project for until a few weeks or so. But that's the general idea.
That's fine, this project really won't get started for another few weeks. I have no design doc/concept art/basic engine at all even yet. I'm just trying to toss the word out now to gather members for such a project. Because really, I suck at level design. (i think anyways)
All platforming problems can be mostly solved here:
