Anyone excited? I'm looking forward to seeing what Microsoft and Sony bring out to showcase their motion controllers. Last year was the unveiling of Natal and Move, but this year they should be trying to prove their worth with proper games - not just mini games. A lot of great games have been released this year already but I'm still looking forward to The Last Guardian, the new 3D-DS and the new Zelda.
I have a PS3 too, but honestly I still play the Wii more. Last year I was disappointed with Nintendo's E3 showcase. Super Mario Galaxy 2 just looked like SMG1 plus Yoshi, and New SMB Wii didn't look great. Actually SMG2 seems to be great fun according to early reviews, and NSMB Wii turned out to be the most fun I've had with a multiplayer game for a long time. I'm not excited about Metroid Other M. After slogging through Metroid Prime 3 waiting for the moment it got interesting, I realised that Metroid games just aren't for me. As for Zelda, I know we'd all be happier if they broke the Zelda mould a little and added voice acting, orchestral music, etc etc; but even if they deliver another game like Twilight Princess I will buy it on day one and enjoy it immensely.
Yep! I actually wrote a thread the other day but forgot to post it:
I've kind of become an e3 nut these past two years. 2010's e3 is just a tad over a month away, and it's rumor time.
I think Microsoft will show off a new, slimmer 360, perhaps with Natal built in. A few small games, but one huge (non-fable 3) project to draw in players.
Nintendo will obviously be showing off the 3DS. I'm wondering if it's going to go all-out or if it will be a conservative offering, as the Wii was. I'm hoping for Zelda Wii, and I'd always take a AAA game like Star Fox or Kid Icarus to surprise me. Also a mere mention of the Wii's successor may be in the emergency backup cards.
I have no clue what Sony's going to do. They'll have a lot of Move stuff to show, but I don't have any zinger predictions. Is another revision to the slim out of the question?
Who's going to steal the show?
That video was amusing. Was he high or acting? He did a pretty good job if it was an act.
I agree about Microsoft's Natal showcase. I think Molyneux will have something for them to show off. Whether we'll ever get to play it is another question, though.
As for Playstation Move, I wasn't at all interested until I saw the videos.
It looks incredibly accurate (you can write your name in the air and it shows on the screen). Natal is technically mind-blowing but when I think realistically about what we'll be using it for, there isn't much scope beyond bouncing ball mini games unless you have some kind of input device in your hand at the same time. The Kevin Butler video is funny, sure, but he raises a good point about buttons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0puP8nrIU8 ) As much as I would feel uncomfortable seeing copycats Sony come out on top, Move does seem to be the best overall solution to motion control, and the closest to what the Wii could/should have been. Having said all that, I could be wrong, lawl! Looking forward to seeing the games anyway.
I'm excited, but I have a feeling it's going to be dominated by Natal/PS Move, both of which I'm not really interested in. I expect to see lots of "party" games based around those rather then full fledged games.
There are still games I'm excited about finding out more though:
PS3
- LittleBigPlanet 2
- Gran Turismo 5
- InFamous 2
- The Last Guardian
- F1 2010
PC (not sure if these are being shown though?)
- Knights of the Old Republic
- Crysis 2
- StarCraft 2
- Diablo 3
- Half Life 2 Episode 3 (very unlikely to be there )
Wii
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- New Zelda
- Metroid Other M
360
- Gears of War 3
- Halo Reach
- Fable 3
I think I'm more excited about the PS3 and Wii games than anything - I really hope Nintendo announce a new Zelda, would also love to see another New Super Mario Bros game. I'm not a big fan of Gears, Halo or Fable - but I couldn't think of anything else for the 360 that might excite me. I expect to see a lot of Natal stuff from them.
Should be a good year - apparently a new PSP and DS are going to be revealed too, and I wouldn't be surprised if a 360 "slim" or something similar is announced to release with the Natal.
PS Move does look very cool indeed. I'm satisfied with Wii Motionplus (Zelda's gonna rock), but it's still fun to see. Natal looks underwhelming and a little tiring, but I'm interested to see what they make for it.
I keep telling myself not to get my hopes up, but I always fail. There's no way everything that I'd want to happen at e3 would happen, but I've still enjoyed the past couple anyway!
I'm a little apprehensive about the vitality sensor. The camps are split between expecting to be floored and predicting that not even Nintendo can come up with something awesome. It does seem rather weird to me.
I wonder how many new pieces of hardware will be introduced.
I really am glad that E3 came back to being more of what it was in the past (remember when it down-scaled for those couple of years not long ago??) and i am very excited to see what appears. I always used to love reading all about it in games magazines when i was a kid (remember Mean Machines magazine and MEGA, anyone?) and now love watching videos about it on sites like Gamespot, as well as reading about it in Edge, Games TM and on Gamecentral.
It's been way too long Flava. The PS2 games were pretty good but from one year to the next they hardly changed and got pretty stale (shame). I also miss the old PS1 games by Psygnosis - they were great. GP4 by Geoff Crammond was great too!
I remember Mean Machines!! Wasn't there a writer who legally changed his name to Radion Automatic? I was a Nintendo kid so I read Super Play and Total more.
