Greetings. I thought I'd try to flex my artistic muscles a bit and try to challenge myself with something new. The idea is that you post a female human from one of your projects/games and I'll see if I can redraw her in my style.
Your female should provide a game sprite and one line art (if possible).

Wow, Silverfire... I don't know how you do it! You discovered my master plan so quickly! How did you guess that I got bored of my hot Japanese wife so I set up an elaborate scheme to win the hearts of teenage boys and men.. so I can date them over the internet! You truly are 'God's God'..!
Seriously, though... you need better reading comprehension or get some better jokes, because you are lame.
@Matthew Wiese: Cool. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Oh, I should also say that I'm using tgf's default palette. So if you draw your character using those colors it would make things a little easier for me.

One of the funniest things I've ever read on this site
I can't help you with your idea; I only make games about spaceships, sumo wrestlers and falafels.
All you really have to do is post a female character from one of your game. Just a sprite. Although line art would be helpful for me to look at. I'm going to then make a new sprite character in my style.
I guess I might open it up for male characters also, but females are just more fun to draw (and animate).
(And yes, nagging, is a skill all women have... lol)
Redraw Mia from Eternal Daughter. Or the Knytt Stories girl
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
I was just thinking about this at work; if no one was going to submit any females I might look for them myself.
But it looks like someone beat me to the punch. If someone could supply the character sprites it would save me a lot of time. Just standing forward or to the side is fine. Ah, there is a girl in that new zombie game isn't there?
Any other female characters in click games? Or just those three..?
Edit: I found a Eternal Daughter screen shot. I'm working on that my version of her now.
Edit #2: I just throw this together; I used the original colors and the dark/black outlines. I think it looks alright, but if I were to recolor it using my normal coloring style it would look a lot better. Anyways, what do you think? Opps, forgot her bangs in the front.. oh well, I'll fix it later. lol
Hmm, I think the overall body design looks... well, off.
You get the feeling that there are multiple perspectives in the picture.
The head for example. The hair indicates that the character is looking into "the camera", but the eyes indicate that you are watching the character at an angle.
Things like that.
I made two quick variants of your sprite to illustrate what I mean;
The one in the middle is your sprite, the one to the left has the eyes higher (following the hair), the one on the right has the hair follow the eyes.
I also made a few quick touches on the arms and legs.

Wow... where to start? "You get the feeling that there are multiple perspectives in the picture." Um, no. There is only one perspective. Forward. The mistakes you think I made are due to the fact I do things differently from how you would. I honestly think your original sprite is rather horrid, but I stuck with it because there aren't a lot of female to choose from.
Also, you totally missed the point. This isn't 'who can draw ED the best', it's 'let me draw your character in my style'. And my style doesn't need corrections. Although maybe looking at my version can help you improve your own original sprite.
@Strife: Wow! This is a really interesting design. I'll take a crack at it after work.
You tell him your sprite is not imperfect but just your style, but his is horrid? That hardly seems fair. Feedback in this type of thread isn't unusual, and should probably be welcomed!

Well, I'm sorry that you got so very offended. It's hard not to get constructive crit when you end your post with "Anyways, what do you think?", it kinda' implies that you are asking for an opinion about your sprite.
But it's cool, I just think you should relax a bit. You come off as quite 'unstable' of sorts.
Oh, and also, I'm not the author of the ED sprite, I believe Derek Yu is.

I'm not too sure that you can tell the viewer what he or she does or does not see, as they are the one seeing it. The artist's intent doesn't always come across to the audience as one might like it to. In this case, I do think that it looks like your sprite is less built at different perspectives and more looking down. Eternal Man's versions look like she's looking forward (left sprite) and looking down (right sprite) without conflict.
Eternal Man was just giving a critique on your version of Mia (which isn't Eternal Man's sprite, so I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say he can learn from your version and improve his.) Regardless of the fact that "the mistakes he thinks you made" are because you draw differently, and really, all he said was that he thought it looked off, it doesn't change the fact that it looks odd to him. And maybe you didn't ask for critique on your style, but that doesn't mean you can't still learn from others and possibly improve your style. "And my style doesn't need corrections." and "Although maybe looking at my version can help you improve your own original sprite." are awfully big-headed statements.
But yeah, it is a matter of differing viewpoints and opinions.

I had read and replied to this while rushing to get ready for work. Now that I just got off work, and have a little more free time, I'll explain this a bit better.
You thought I made an error because the eyes and hair give conflicting angles? You had incorrectly assumed that your edit on the right side is the 'correct' way her face should normally be drawn. Which objectively isn't totally your fault. Chrono Trigger females have their eyes placed up that high. So if you like the way they do it in CT, you'd assume my way is incorrect.
And the truth of it is, I do place eyes that high on the face,.. but only for male characters. ED is a girl. To have her eyes places in the same manner as a man or woman is just lazy. (Although maybe pro Squaresoft pixel artists did this.) So the right edit might look perfect to you.. but to me it looks like a dude in drag.. >_>
Now for your left edit. It's not bad, but hair style is all wrong. Look at the original again. Short bangs, with the forehead exposed. In my version I drew hair with the forehead exposed, but admited I forgot to add the bangs. You redrawing the hair, while cute, is a deviation of the original design. I'm going to make another version of her with no color restrictions and with the bangs, later.
Lastly, I never asked for C&C. If someone isn't asking for help, don't edit people's sprites. Um'k?
@Jon Lambert: So her name is Mia, huh? I never played the game myself. I'll make a note of that. As far as my reaction, I had assumed (incorrectly) he had draw the original. That was my mistake, but it doesn't change much. When I was studying the original to make my version, I was groaning. In my personal opinion it's an ugly sprite. She just isn't cute looking to me.
But now that I've cooled down, maybe there is a reason for that. Maybe that's the best the artist could do at the time? (ED is an old game, right?) Maybe it's part of the story? (She gets a new sprite later in the game, etc.)
Could I have been more tactful? Yes. But look at it from my angle. After I posted my version I was expecting to get a reply along the lines of, "oh cool, you drew Mia!" But what did I get? Some random guy (who's not even the original artist) picking apart my fansprite. Needless to say, I was rubbed the wrong way by it. If you have any pride as an artist I'm sure you could relate.
But my main pet pev is assuming I wanted C&C. I guess people don't realize how rude it is to edit someone's sprites without asking. If anything good comes from all this, I hope that is something people will remember.
@Watermelon876: Sounds interesting. Can you provide a sprite of her for me please? And one of 'the Knytt Stories girl' also? Thanks.
@Adam: If you hurry you can still make it to today's Reading Comprehension class. Ask Dog's Dog for directions.
@OldManClayton: Yes, I know what it sounded like; 'my sprites are perfect, and your's are awful'. But I never once said my sprites are flawless. They aren't in fact. Everyone has room for improvement. Case in point, ED's pixel artist. He (or she?) clearly has some talent because the backgrounds were damn sexy. However, that artist (in my opinion) could uh *ahem* use a lot of work in the female character design department. Mia isn't cute or sexy.. and the expression on her face is really odd.
But as much as I don't like the original Mia sprite, I'd never edit it without the original artist's promission. (Although anyone who really knows me knows I NEVER edit other's pixel art for any reason, so it's a mute point.)
@Eternal Man [EE]: Since the theme of this thread was me drawing other's characters in my style.. by asking "what do you think?" I meant it in a "does it good/similar to the original?', kinda way. Not, 'does it look pixel perfect?'.
I think I had also said that I had 'just thrown this together', meaning that I worked on it long enough so someone would make the comparison.. but not nearly as long as I work on my 'own' sprite characters. Remember, I'm just doing this for fun. So you turning this it's a serious C&C session kinda surprised and upset me.
Then again, maybe you were surprised and upset by my reply because you thought you were just being helpful. Anyways, let's just take this as a lesson learned and move on. But to show there is no hard feelings, you're also invited to sumbit your own female character.
@everyone: Dig deep! Unearth some more click girls for me to draw. =]
Lets just take these words into account from tetsuya:
"Then again, maybe you were surprised and upset by my reply because you thought you were just being helpful. Anyways, let's just take this as a lesson learned and move on. But to show there is no hard feelings, you're also invited to sumbit your own female character. "
Lets just drop it now before things really explode and it would suck closing this topic because it is a really cool thing to see what comes out of it.

Well, I can only second that.
Mr. Shino, I can fully appreciate artistic integrity, but if you feel your spritework to be violated by someone offering input on how your overall sprite design looks to the public, then you are acting childish. I will not admit to being a 'horrible sprite-violator', since most people use this way to learn and improve, there are entire community sections that edit each others sprites to help one another, but foremost, you didn't convey that you would be FUBAR if offered CC.
If you take a look at the other topics in this forum you'll notice how most people here are looking for help to improve their spriting. So sorry, you were in the wrong place to expect not getting any crit.
And you see, my editing your sprite doesn't in any way harm your original work. I was merely trying to help you with something I supposed was a problem to you. I didn't know it was 'your style', I guessed that you were having trouble aligning the facial structure, cause to me, it looked like it.
I won't say I'm sorry if I violated your artistic integrity. Had it been an original piece on canvas that I went on and edited you'd be in the position to react as you do, but this is about digital art in a community forum, you need to heads-up people if you have dramatically fixated thoughts on artistic integrity. Or not post it for everyone to see and/or get a hold of.
I wouldn't have writ this wall of text if you had simply said;"Oh, gee... thanks. But I'm not looking for CC, and I feel a little uncomfortable about people editing my sprites..."
It's called being polite, and since you show your pride of living in Japan, try and pick up that custom, you get a whole lot further with it.

EDIT: Edited to fit Rikus editing, but I won't change my reply though - I believe it to be polite and relevant.

I said in my opening post (and again, many times later) that I was going to make a sprite version of someone's character. Any yet you still posted this, 'I imagined a hand drawn character like those in your signature, not a sprite'
I hate trolls, Mr. Adam. If you don't have anything worthwhile or even relevant to say, then please don't post in my thread.

I couldn't agree more. All I could think about at work was how I was going to go about drawing this different characters. I'm really looking forward to it.
I think this is one big misunderstanding. It never entered my head that someone would try to edit one of my sprites, because I wasn't asking for help. However, it appears that if someone posts any kind or artwork, people assume he is looking for C&C. And sometimes people are looking for help, and other times people just want to show off their shiny new toy.
So maybe I'm at fault for not clearly stating I didn't want C&C. And maybe others are at fault for assuming I did. Honestly I think it's both. But one thing is for sure; this has already gotten old and is distracting from the original goal of those thread. Which is to have fun drawing.
I plan to draw all the ladies posted here. You can help me out by posting images of females that were just named.
Also, don't be scared to get in on the action yourself. If you always wanted to redraw Mia, or the others, now is the perfect time to try. Just don't edit the source or my own sprites. That's all I ask.
Barring C&C altogether is probably not a good idea. You should welcome feedback and different views from other skilled artists. You don't have to act on all of it. Come on, you should know this by now! You obviously have talent, so you've probably been doing this for a while.
I don't think anyone is "at fault" here, but when another skilled artist tries to help you improve as he sees it, don't take it as an attack on your skills. Because then nobody will want to participate! In these types of communities, "look what I made" means "reactions, please". Could be a fault, could be a good thing. Just assume it's the latter.
But I understand why you were frustrated. Sometimes you just want to show stuff without getting knee-deep in corrections. And if that's what you want, that's what we'll do.
I would post the only female character I have for you to draw, but I don't have much art of her.

^ This.
Personally, whenever I show something and other people make suggestions or "touch up" my drawings (as was the case here), I take it as a sign that other people are interested in my work. I'd be far more disappointed if I posted something and nobody commented on it.
But it's time to carry along. I think that if anything else is to be said on the matter, it should be taken to PM/IM/DCmail, ne?
Tetsuya; maybe Mia from Eternal Daughter isn't supposed to be sexy or cute. Maybe the artist didn't want to sexualise her at all. But - he probably wouldn't act like a dick if you told him so.
Greeting everyone. It's been a busy week, but so I couldn't really get around to doing this until now;
As you can see, I removed the self imposed color restrictions (I had just used the same colors found in the original). I colored her the way I normally do. I also redrew her hair a bit and added the bangs in front of her forehead that the first version lacked.
And just for fun, I made a second, alternate version of Mia. In this version I removed the armor, made her dress longer, and gave her metal gauntlets on each arm with red cloth underneath. I may or may not make alternates for future challenges.
I'm going to try to draw the females in the order they are posted. However, I can already tell a few games were posted without images to go with them. I have very limited free time. So if you guys could post images of the girls you'd like me to try to drew it would be really helpful.
@OldManClayton: Thanks for your submissions. They look rather easy to do, so they shouldn't be a problem to draw. I am indeed just going this for fun. While interesting points were made, I still do not want C&C. If you really feel the need to ingore my wishs and 'correct' me, just send me a PM.
Well, it looks like Strife's Violet Star is next on the list. This could be interesting.

Thank you for indirectly calling me a dick. I think you missed the point I was trying to make there,.. but that's cool. I admit I blew up and said some things a rude way. However, this is old news now. If this issue still bothers you, feel free to send me a PM.
Wow, your Mia definitely looks better with the extra colors and hair bangs. The alternate outfit looks cool too! An interesting take on a rather well-known heroine in the klik community.
I think eveyone here has spoken their opinions, and I couldn't agree more when I read Jon Lambert's post, and offcourse Adam's post.
There is a f***ing limit to how hostile you're going to be agains every f***ing one here.
EDIT: There used to be some more hate here, decided to remove it, saw it had calmed down a bit.
I hope I'm not too late to voice my opinions... :|

When does a girl have to be cute, eh? If you want your kind of "attractive" girls go ahead and keep working on that hentai game of yours.

Sorry to say this but.. What the hell? Just because a game is old doesn't mean you can go ahead and say that it has an excuse to look ugly. NES games were, I'm go to guess 15 - 20 years ago. Yes they used what they had to make the sprites look the best they could, but that gives you no right to say "I think those sprites look ugly, but hey, they're old so they should look bad."
But on another note:
If you haven't drawn up Juni (from Knytt Stories) I would really like to see her in your style.
