I wanted to know if anyone wanted to work with me on this idea I had. If so, PM me, email me, or just reply here. I need pixel artist(s), musician(s), and someone to help design quests. I can do all of the programming. If anyone wants to help, I will be starting the game in March, so I have time to finish all my current projects. But anyway, here's my idea...

An RPG where you play as a wizard and have two meters: a Moral Meter and an Elemental Meter The moral meter is affected by what you do, i.e. if you do something evil it will go down, if you do something good it will go up. When it reaches a certain low or high, you will transform into a Demon or Priest respectively. As for the elemental, you fill it by completing special elemental quests. When you fill your elemental meter, you get the ability to transform into your Elemental form. For Wizards its Elemental Wizards, for Priests it's Druids, and for Demons it's Demigods. There are all kinds of items and spells, which I already have planned out. And quests, which I only have a few of so far.

Wait so you were working on a mario engine.

Then you wanted to start Zelda Ocarina of Time project.

Now this RPG game?

What happened to the mario engine and zelda project?

I lost the Mario files, and no one wanted to help on the OoT remake. I honestly don't think I would be able to do a remake of OoT by myself AND stay sane. So now I'm seeing if anyone would like to work on this with me, but it's not as big a project as remaking OoT, so even if no one wants to help I will be able to finish it (hopefully)

I realize, but for this I can make my own sprites and music, but for LoZoT I couldn't. I suck at making sprites and music that's supposed to represent something else i.e. something already done. This is partly due to the fact that I'm not all that good a musician or pixel artist, but also because I'm kind of a perfectionist. I wouldn't be able to bear not having all the monsters and have them look perfect.

That's understandable then. I wish I could help with your RPG but I'm already preoccupied with something secret at the moment. All the best with this though.

Thanks I will start it in like a week, hopefully someone else will want to help by then, but if not then I will press forth alone.

Try to keep it small. Take this from someone with oversized and interminable projects.
Also, the moral bar thing seems very christian to me. Why not have it be a polygon at least, so it's not a black-or-white question.

What do you mean by a polygon? Also I didn't think it was very Christian; and if it was that was unintentional, as I am in no way Christian...

What, non-Christians don't care about morals? Isn't it essentially the same as the bar used in Shadow the Hedgehog that determined whether you got a good or evil Chaos attack based on the types of enemies you killed? Or Fable, which makes you angelic or demonic based on your actions? Fable just doesn't show you the bar.

What I meant to say is that life isn't binary in any way, especially in what would otherwise happen to be a moral decision if you were a christian. Read the last as judeo-christian or cartesian. Having it your way, understand that polarisation means only either one way or the other. By having a polygon instead of a line, you could radicalise your choice to different extremes. In clearer terms, it's not very innovative to consider a moral approach in a linear way (as most of the western world thinks, still basing its world on the ens creatum assumption).

It's not the graphical representation of the line I comment upon, but the idea of understanding morality as a line (manichaeistically; good vs bad).

You used a lot of complicated words, and I only understood about half of them, but are you saying that instead of a bar for moral, I should have a sort of square type thing that basically works like a bar, but isn't as linear since religion can play a part in how morally correct or incorrect something is?

As I understood it, you wanted your character to go in two directions based on his moral decisions. What I tried to suggest was to, instead, make more room for direction. Instead of having only two classes, have five or six. That way, we wouldn't be as naïve as to say there's only good or only evil. I know this entails more work, and it's quite a non sequitur from my first sentence in this thread. It was only a comment.

I see. I actually quite like that idea, and while it would be quite a bit more work, I believe that it would be more than worth it. The only problem I could see would be how the elemental bar would fit in, since if you had 5 or six based on moral, then you would need 5 or six elemental versions. This would lead to a total of 10 or 12 different forms, which would be a huge amount of work. So I need to choose either to have two bars, one for moral and one for elemental, or to have one moral polygon, which would allow for a more complex game, and possibly much better. I am inclined to go toward the latter option. This would mean rethinking a large portion of the game that I already planned out, but very well may be more than worth it in the long run. I thank you very much for your opinion and patience with my misunderstanding.

But what would those different directions represent though? Can you give examples? And I'm still confused as to how a moral bar seems Christian specifically.
