I wish I would've been part of a community like this one back in the early 2000s, but the problem was that I was way too young since I was born in 1999, I didn't know much about computers and internet at the time. Thankfully, my dad introduced me to all of that, but I was also too young to be a part of online communities, and my parents restricted me from doing that just so I was safe from spam or stuff like that. Looking at this site now, it definitely brings me back to the time when you would just search up .exe or flash games online on sites such as Miniclip and Newgrounds.

Even though I'm really late to the community now, I can safely say that I've had a wonderful time exploring around the site playing other people's games as well as uploading my own. Sure I started with GameJolt, but I guess I just wanted to be helpful on keeping the site alive. So let's hope we can keep the site moving forward until the end of time.

I got into Clickteam products from a demo on the SimCity game CD. I think it was a demo of Click and Create. I liked that a lot, and when I went to buy it, people were telling me to instead get MultiMediaFusion 1.0. I did, and then started making tons of tiny little games. I would hang out with my friend Fridays, and I always had something new to show him, to mixed reception. hah. Little space shooters, or sidescrolling platforming, or driving around in a car in a city.

Later I made SmileyHouse with the help of Joshtek and art assets / input from lots of people in the community. As he said, you can still play that here: https://smileyhouseonline.com
That was a multiplayer online action RPG with PVP everywhere and PVE. Classes, lots of mini-games like fishing and mining. Just packed full of silliness and fun. It's not very active, but if you send a message on the Discord, you can find someone to log in with you.

Lately my passion project is CouchGames https://couchgames.tv , a webapp for playing games together with a set up like Jackbox Party Pack (although the original version of CouchGames actually predates that). You can play games in person with one TV + a phone per player, or even just play them over the internet. Some of the games on there are inspired by the party game Mafia / Werewolf / Witchhunt, Resistance, and deathmatch variant of Robo Rally. It's still in private alpha, but we play regularly over Discord, so feel free to join us! https://discord.gg/Gd65bkC

I remember that design, a nice bright colour scheme. I also remember the comic mentioned in the news post, and the Worm Wars games mention in the other news post.

I definitely enjoyed Hill Gigas' games back in the day, and was always happy to provide feedback to help inform future versions/games.

(BTW, I can help people get access to old accounts so long as they still exist.)

There were some tutorials - https://web.archive.org/web/20161221001630/http://www.martin2k.co.uk/tgf/tutorials.php - not sure about hundreds of examples, though.

Ah, back when demos were popular. Good job you tried it out! I heard about Click via a friend who had The Games Factory back in around 1998. Despite joining in the TGF era I ended up getting Klik & Play too because I wanted to play the demo games and see what it was like.

Hello! Since everyone's sharing their TDC stories and experiences I thought I might as well share some of my own!
I first heard about The Daily Click trough an interview I once read. I didn't think to much of it at the time tough. Later I was watching the "The Game Making Journey" series by 3kliksphilip on YouTube and I saw TDC had a pretty big role in it. Around the same time I got very interested by older games by TDC user Hill Gigas. I started making my own games and just thought "Hey, I'll upload my games there! All my favorite game devs did it, so why don't I as well?" Funny enough, some people had the same idea (most notably BigAl0104) around that time. We already knew each other then and we've become great friends since!
My favorite memory here has to be when Hill Gigas commented on one of my games and gave it 5 stars! It made my day, my week, my month!
I do have to admit that my interest in game making has decreased a lot lately tough. But I do still work on some little games from time to time .
My experience here has been great. I've met so many great people, played so many great games and I've learned so much! So in other words; thanks for the great experience so far everyone! I hope this'll continue for many more years to come!

Hello. Have a good day.

I still visit this site a couple times a week and am always happy when there is something new. I really do miss the old days when the community was very active, especially the 2002-2005 era. I started with Klik&Play in 1997 and even though I switched to Construct for my educational material (where I invest most of my energy these days) I still use Fusion for my games. Fishhead 4 is really nearly almost more or less done now!

Great to see so many familiar names on this thread. I'm looking forward to the next Fishhead game as I did find the others to be fun.

2002-2005 was definitely a great time for TDC, and that mostly coincided with the heyday for SmileyHouse. Other communities were probably at their peak earlier, such as #K&P and Code-It.

The timeline at https://www.create-games.com/timeline/1994.html has quite a good summary of the period from 1994 to 2008 and a number of the communities and projects which rose and fell. This includes, for example, V-Cade, which when it was active had some really great little games on it that I remember fondly. It also mentions the Click Convention - I went to one of those and it was great to meet so many fellow clickers that I had previously spoken with over the Internet (MSN and ICQ probably as the people I knew on AIM were mostly outside of the UK).

Hi Josh, thanks for the link i just spend 30 min looking at the click Timeline

Found a link there to this interview with Hayo that I backed up from the click island site. I used to post reviews and interviews there with creators here is the only 1 that still works:

https://www.create-games.com/bernardandhank.asp
https://www.create-games.com/clickreviews.asp (only the Bernard and Hank interview link works

Anyone remember "The picture me this" compo? A scrambled picture was posted and you had to figure out what game it was for, that was fun

For those interesting in Picture Me This, there was actually a revival of it at TDC in 2008 so you can still see some of the forum posts: https://www.create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=237892 - I guess at some point I could try reviving it again. Is that something people would be interested in?

I've checked on the Internet Archive and some stuff from ClickIsland circa 2004 is still accessible beyond Bernard & Hank

EDIT: I'm curious what games you've released as an indie dev now.

You asked about what I had released as an indie developer and I promised to update you. So here you go: Brew & Brawl - Gnomes vs Dwarves on Steam

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1424270/Brew__Brawl__Gnomes_vs_Dwarves/

It's a bit janky at the moment, but we're rolling out an update before Christmas. So if you do decide to get it, hold out until the ens of the week. (Linux and Mac releases will come in a few more weeks. They're ready, but not performance wise)
