Rencently I saw two games that ripped the ZEB engine...
I'm just wondering if this is MAGORLY frowned upon and y? What I noticed about the game was that the graphics were basically recolored. IF the grfx.s are origanl, is it alright to rip the engine...

no one should care if the engine is ripped. if it works and is solid, then why the fuck shouldn't you use it? it's a lot better than using the default movement and having 5 times the amount of people complaining. if people do complain that the engine, they really should get a life instead of nit-picking every little detail they can find wrong with your game.

Hell, I don't really even care if the graphics are ripped or not, as long as the look is consistent. The most important thing is how fun the game is to play.

as long as you don't say it, no one knows...
unless you rip graphics which everyone can figure out that it's ripped.

but remember, if you just rip it then you'll lose out on good experience. It would be better to take a closer look at the engine and try to recreate it yourself

I dont mind if a game used ripped gfx, engine whatever IF:

1. You are allowed to use it.
2. You clearly state you use this and that ripped piece and give credits to the original author.

As Circy points out ... you learn a lot more by doing it yourself. Recreation is a good way to learn if you are completely empty about how to do it.

If you do rip an engine, tell where you got it from.
And as long as its not the graphics, then I guess its alright to rip an engine...

if you say things like that you eventually find yourself saying "hmm, if i make a platform game is that a ripoff of mario land?". anything above blindly copying and pasting is not ripping.

I don't really care, as long as you say who made the engine so your not taking credit for other people's hard work.
