Again, thanks for your support and words of encouragement to those who give me a fair chance

I am confident that the game will be good not only to Sonic fans, but people who just wanna play something fun. The engine isnt cheap or badly made like most fan games, and geniunely shows just how advanced coding I am at MMF.

I am now working on a brief "Test" level that will utilize all the current features of my game engine, expect it later tonight or tomorrow at the latest

The engine test is complete.. the "Test Level" isnt much but it has what you need to test the moves and functions out. Again, copy and paste the link to the address bar to download the file...
http://members.lycos.co.uk/gamingcommunity/sonicgame/New%20Engine%20Test.zip

Here are the controls...

"1" key: Actual resolution display
"2" key: Doubled resolution display
Fire Button 1: (pressed when on ground or railing) Jump
Fire Button 1: (pressed when in mid-air) Air-Jump
Fire Button 1: (pressed while crouched) Spindash rev
Fire Button 1/Down: (released when in Spindash) Spindash blast
Fire Button 2: (when held) Cling onto rails
Down: (held when standing) Crouch
Down: (pressed while walking/running) Roll into a ball
"Enter" key: Pause

There are no physical enemies in the play area just yet, so I have included a key used for debugging purposes... press the Space bar to physically harm Sonic during gameplay.. Like in the games, if he's hurt with rings, they all scatter out of him, otherwise he dies... give it a try.

Enjoy

not too shabby, i'm not a sonic fan so i can't compare it to the original, but the test seems solid enough.

That is a damn solid engine. Plays just like the old Sonic games, but with added stuff. Very nice indeed.

This is looking good. As much as I don't like fangames this one is cool.

Not bad at all actually. I hope you didnt make the whole level out of active objects - it seemed to run pretty slowly for me. You should change the number of colours ingame.

Engine was good, but buggy (Sonic sunk into the stairs which held the grind rails, and sometimes he wouldn't move when actually on the rails), but overall this is promising stuff.

I'm impressed! Could this turn out to be the best fangame yet, and even encourage other fangames to be of better quality? (NB Only one of those is likely, and unfortunately it's not the second one)

Good job anyway. I particularly liked the double-spring bit, I couldn't get it to break down no matter how hard I tried.

That's Sonic Time AttackED.. and as a matter of fact, that game inspired me to make my own none-half-assed fangame

Thanks for the comments, but please be aware that the engine is yet to be finished, so what you've tried out now is only a taste of things to come

The only reason you lot don't like fan games is that most of the ones posted here suck (really badly) - that doesn't mean this one will. Don't let them put you off

Very good engine! Like the real sonic games but with extra stuff in like rails. You should add some loops next however. The only bug I can find is that sometimes Sonic can grind on the rail but not move, you could fix it by making sonic fall off the rail when he stops moving. I'm looking forward to this.

woo looks and plays great so far, smooth engine and the animations are nice.

Another bug i noticed to extend WG's find - if you jump from a standstill onto an inclined rail, he just stands there like he's defying physics :S

I have updated the engine a little. While some glitches remain as of now, minor bugfixes and alterations have been made, as well as the addition of an end-of-act score screen system

I have uploaded it, replacing the previous version, so again it can be found here (right-click link and choose "save as"..)
http://members.lycos.co.uk/gamingcommunity/sonicgame/New%20Engine%20Test.zip

I have also made the debugging numbers at the left end of the gameplay screen invisible this time.. you can bring them up by pressing the "9" key (and "0" key to hide it again)

EDIT: Argh.. stupid MMF.. you'll have to bear with me for a minute because I realized something doesnt work (though it appeared fine when I tested it for some odd reason), gimmie a moment to re-upload a fresh working copy..

EDIT 2: There we go.. download it now
