If you have been here for over six months, you'll have noticed this: TDC is getting boring. I haven't got bored of TDC, TDC seems to have just gone boring. So, you start wondering; how did this all start?
Well there are a number of things to pin this down on, but one very significant one was the induction of a certain admin. This admin arrived and started changing the way things were done at TDC. Like the French revolution, this at first seemed the right thing to do. Giving the bad guys a boot up the ol' backside, it was going well. Then TDC etiquette was written by someone else, this was really good, guidelines to follow, but not rules.
But then the tension rose. More and more admins jumped into the same boat as the new one, which resulted in the recent "code of conduct". I'm sure many of you think this is all great, the bad guys getting what they deserve. But one shocking event very recently was enough to change my mind: Billy Bob winning GOTW. I'm not saying the admins chose this as the winner, as gotw is democratic. BUT I blame the events I mentioned earlier. Even before the rules of conduct, the admin's new "no tolerance" policy lowered the number of anti-n00b comments dramatically. Again, this was great, right? Wrong. Sure it is great to have newbies posting their games, and helping them, but when someone releases game after game of a n00bish series, how do you stop them? You have too say "stfu n00b", but people now are to scared to, or believe to heavily in new policies.
Ever since ashman was fired, he's became quiet, and he WAS TDC, heh, I say, give ashman editor back, so we can laugh at his thirteen incher hired gun news posts.

congratulations Damien, you've won the "Jon Chambers and Dwight Watson total and utter moron award". so "a winner is you!" as they say.
i can't help but laugh at this post. look around you. just look around you. have you found out what what we're looking for? that's right. a computer. this is a website, not a country. we don't need history books written about us, or comparisons drawn between us and the french revolution, what we NEED is people just getting along with it, hopefully making games along the way.
so WHY then would we want decent people, albethem newbies, being disheartened and downtrodden by a rain of "STFU N00B" comments? in a previous post you have branded me "hitler" (very flattering, thanks) but the course of action you suggest seems just as oppresing of newbies as hitler's nazi regieme was of the jews! have you made out any plans for a DC version of Kristellnacht?
if i am a bad admin as you so riotously say i am, then you are very certainly a bad member. and if you don't like our system here, or would prefer to go to a site where newbies are in fear of posting anything, then i suggest you leave, then code and host your own site where newbies are allowed to be ridiculed. because none of the admins here will ever allow such stupid behaviour.
The TDC is boring? Well, crikey, maybe that's what happens when you alienate all your most active users. And the GOTW is worth about as much as a slice of lettuce? Well holy crap! Rush me to the hospital!
But while you might think Pete can be a bit harsh, he's Jesus fucking Christ almighty compared to some people I could mention.
Teapot, if you're really upset about how this place is run, I suggest you vote with your feet and leave. Trying to get things to change does no good. Trust me on this, I know whereof I speak. Abandon TDC like the sinking ship it is.
Interesting comparison you made. Newbies have been oppressed for years, and they will continue to be - whether by the Hitler-esque membership whose order is to say 'stfu n00b' ad nauseam, or by... um... well, no, it's all your fault, so quit whining and make a few decent games. Or reviews. I don't think anybody cares what you put in a review...
(btw. I'm selling goggles to protect your eyes from the crappiness.)
I myself try to be as fair as possible. I don't set out on a personal vendetta or crusade against anyone. I just see myself in a position to keep on running, along with the other admins, The Daily Click, the ONLY Klik site which is holding the community together. You may see me as being "on my high horse" with this statement, but thats just a fact. Klik-Me, Klik Academy, and the rest, as good as they are, don't have the established user base that we do. Partly because they don't just accept any old crap thats submitted, which is why newbies to klikking are afraid to go there. Like it or hate it, TDC is a very friendly place for newbies to go, and start the very length process of etching their spot in the klikking hierarchy... so to speak.
Everyone deserves a chance. Everyone deserves the right to be able to submit their games, no matter how bad they are (unless they are deliberately made bad, like the Billy Bob spoof), and ask for advice and swap coding methods. Just like a real interactive community.
And, just like a real interactive community, you'll get your fair share of idiots, with individuals attempting to disrupt operations and make these newbies feel small. And we admins will not tolerate that attitude. Hence the introduction of the rules.
Everywhere needs rules. Otherwise the real world will be full of people thinking it's ok to steal, rape, and murder. Same goes for the internet. Otherwise we'd be getting even more child porn than we already do. We'd be getting even more viruses than we already do. We want to consider TDC a friendly place to visit - a santuary for all the people wanting to leave behind the escaped zoo animals. Besides that, if the rules weren't there, then we'd all be a part of that zoo, and everything would be disrupted.
So don't knock the admins. We're trying to run a community site visited by thousands, and we're doing the best we can. AND we're doing it for free. It sounds conceited, but without TDC there would be no community at all.
Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
Yes, FFS, every other game on that GOTW was better in every way. No offense to phlibbit, but it was totally unworthy of GOTW, especially with that current selection.

I don't think Billy Bob Games are worthy candadates for GOTW, either. But the admins only put them up because they had a high rating.
The only thing that is slow here is the downloads; in this week there were only about 4 new games!
I also feel that the Click Community will get a bad name because of some of the games that are floating around now: Prank Packs, Billy Bob, exc. I think that might brand clickers with a bad name.
Start making really cool games!
Fine Garbage since 2003.

Yes, considering there isn't really a place, anywhere for crap games. Knp games that were made in 5 minutes and are excused because they're the author's first game is completely unfair, especially with these newbs who flood for points. Its sick. TDC should be a place for everyong to put their fair caliber games, no absolute crap games like going bananas.
I think the admins should be hella tougher when it comes to game/app posting. Because then they are to blame when a crapload of newb flaming arises, they already predicted us animals to shred away any remaining dignity of the newbs, they already know it.

This place is still good...why do you think i'm still here? No, seriously?
To me TDC is a place mainly full of people who share something in common, and that is a love for games and their creation in particular. Of course the fact of the matter is that people have lives besides Klikin and gaming, and, inturn, hinders the time they have to be making games.
Basically DC has its good times and bad times. Sometimes the place is crawling with lots of people making games or playing them...and others there's hardly a soul at work and the games per week or possibly the quality goes down. But shit happens man.
The way I see it you live with these 'boring' phases...or fuck off. Simple.
I like where DC is goin, even if at times it IS boring, or there's not much happening in the forums or good games out, but there are more and more good games coming out, there are more members that can benefit from my years of experience, there's new developments in Klik software that will mean bigger and better things to come...as a well known Australian cleaning products saleman says "I'm excited!"
But yeah...in conclusion...stop complaining...peace out!

Yeah i'm pretty much over it. I wrote that about 10 'o clock after a fight with a friend. Sorry if I offended anyone, and to Pete: What makes you think I was talking about you?
I agree, clicking makes things sooo easy it is very simple for a complete noob to go out and just make a thrown together pong game and call himself the greatest clicker that ever lived. Hmm there is a thought....... (Yes I didnt say herself becuase I don't think there ARE any female clickers....)
Face it. The DC isn't really part of the Click Community anymore. The Click Community consits of stuff like CT's Knowledge Base, Klik Academy, Klik-Me, Total Klik, Natomic, Acoders, FA Ind., Click Island and all the other hardcore klikers who spend their lives into making games.
TDC is now more like... a veteran's guild. Basically, veterans just hang out here, pick fights with other veterans, pretend to be veterans, or just take care of the little young 'uns (AKA noobs). It's hardly about Clicking anymore. It's just about well... doing stuff you don't do in real life.
And don't bring up the female clickers thing. I've come to the conclusion that about 75% of the Click Community consists of nerds who either run or get uber-pissed off at the reminder that girls exist. I still stand by my opinion that girls make excellent clickers and I have the games and the HTML/mIRC/MSNM archives on my HDD to back it up. But that's not the point. (though strangely enough, I've never met a female clicker who has ever made a pong game)

I never made a pong game either. Wanted to, but well, I never got to model the people in it right. The chick the main character was interested in just wasn't sexy enough.
Hmm... am I the only person who puts secret moves and 3D animated cutscenes in a pong game? I mean in non-Japanese freeware.

Veterans? OK, name me ten people who regularly come here that could be classed as 'veterans'; and by that I mean people who have actually been making games a long time, not just people who never make anything, just keep posting saying how great their next game is going to be so they can pretend to be superior to a bunch of people they've never even met. Those aren't veterans.
"And don't bring up the female clickers thing" - You JUST DID.
TDC is, and always will be, part of the greater Click community. Any site that Clickers visit for Click related things is part of the Click community. TDC obviously falls in to that category.
And IMO the community is very effective. We have some very talented artists, coders, musicians etc. around - you name it, someone here can do it. Whenever someone finishes a game and releases it, there's an army of critics (usually) constructively making comments on how to improve the game. So someone looking for how to improve their game can very efficiently receive excellent feedback. The only next step is to aim a little higher, and to try and get games outside the click community and in to the wider world - I submitted 2 really small apps (BackupX and Download Resumer) to Tucows as a kind of experiment... they both got accepted, and have over 90% popularity! (Apparently Tucows have now increased the minimum rating to get on to the site though... whether or not that's a consequence of BackupX/Download Resumer I don't know but still, many high-quality apps/games here could still be accepted...) It's not that hard to get your work further out. Most end users don't know/care if you made it in TGF, Multimedia Fusion, Dark Basic or C++.
And perhaps some people have got it the wrong way round. Has the whole community got boring, or have you got bored of the community?
Could YOU do something to change that?
Heremu:"I suggest you vote with your feet and leave"
Muggus:"This place is still good...why do you think i'm still here?"
Muz:"I've come to the conclusion that about 75% of the Click Community consists of nerds who either run or get uber-pissed off at the reminder that girls exist."
Muggus:"English, do you speak it muther fucker!"
Heremu:"And don't bring up the female clickers thing" - You JUST DID."
Yeah. Can't we all just get along? And make some games?
Heremu:
I meant 'veterans' in the same sense as war veterans. You don't even have to hit anyone in a war to be considered a vet, you just have to survive all the battles and hang out with a group that did stuff. In that sense, I suppose guys like Circy and Fishead are veterans. In the sense of actually doing anything, the people with that kinda willpower don't laze around on boards all day .

Dammit... you just had to go and resurrect a dying post.
