Opinions! ***UPDATE***
Posted 18th Apr 09, by OMC
First screenshot is the current color of the walls. Second is a prospective new color. I don't like the brown, and I'd probably change the text to burgundy or something.

These walls have really been giving me trouble from the start, I can't find a style that looks good. :\ I want something simple and cartoony, and yet... Dadgumit I wish I had an artist for this game. >_>

Vote/suggest!

UPDATE: There's now a third screenshot with a new type shading... Comments, likes, dislikes, suggestions, etc, please! I also still want color preferences.

Hmm, the colour's don't bother me, but maybe the overall 'flatness' of the walls needs addressing. How about adding light/dark walls depending on a lightsource? You could either:

1. Shade all walls facing left, left-up and up bright (as if light is facing them) and shade all walls facing right, right-down and down as if they were shadowed, or..

2. Add individual light sources around the level (eg. lights in the floor, along the walls, etc) and shade the walls around the light sources to match where the light is? It would defo take longer but the results would be worth it, for sure.

Also, the tops of the walls would look better much much darker, since realistically they would not be visable (a ceiling would be there instead) - this would also make the walls stand out more.

I liked the teal color though. The only suggestion I have is to change the "breakable wall" color to purple.

I don't know if I could do that, Mistah Radon... I'm not even sure what you meant by facing left and right... I'll try making the tops darker to see if it works.

Sumo, I changed the breakable wall color to purple and it looked pretty funky. O_o I'll have to show you.

Thanks for the comments!

Try to make the purple darker

Good work OMC, does look better. You could go one-further and add shadow to the floors next to the darker walls - if you wanted to, that is!

Thanks for the input! I'll experiment some more later, I've got a phwysics paper to write. >_>

I kinda liked the torquoise shade. Maybe you could make the walls plum crazy purple?

I like the current one you have now... The 2nd one seems a bit dark. Maybe colouring the walls a lime green or something lighter would help? I think Mark Radon's idea for the light source would really help out. Just suggestions

Keep up the great work, and good luck on
the phwysics paper!

I think I'll stick with the turquoise, the question is, which shading style? The third picture has the shading style that Mistah Radon suggested.

Thanks.

Oh duh! Now I see the difference between the shadings... sorry, I musta' been too tired last night to notice! Yeah, the 3rd one looks a lot more smoother... I likeh et.

Lime green is just my favourite colour, I guess that's why I suggested it...
