All right, those of you looking here are probably either looking to audition to be lead programmer, or to critique those who wish to audition. Either way, this is how this is going to work: all those who wish to become the lead programmer will give an example of their coding ability here. Essentially they will be giving a resume of engines and coding techniques they have and feel would be useful to this project. What you should submit is the following:
One example of a platforming engine: This could very well be the most important thing you submit. Here it will be determined whether or not you can handle coding for a side-scrolling action game. Basics would include walking, running, jumping, wall and ground detection, ladders, jump-through platforms, moving platforms, and crouching.
Other examples of potentially helpful coding: While the platforming engine is important, this is as well. This would be things such as level editors, saving and loading, particle engines, and online interactivity.
Arbitrary coding: Some people may not have either of the two things above but still want to help. Here is where you submit material you think is a good demonstration of coding ability or ability to learn to code.
Using both my own perceptions and the input of the community, I will select a Lead Programmer from those who submit their material here. People may either submit content here (by linking to it) for critique or they may critique other material submitted.
The Lead Programmer is the person who will be heading up all programming concerns and decisions. Not only will this person do the majority of the planning and coding, but they will also heed the advice and input of the community as to how to design the engine, what it should accommodate, and so on. The Lead Programmer may select one Assistant Programmer, and both people will become formal members of this project. This is not to say that no one else can work on programming, but that these two people will be in the Project Members list on the heading at the top of the project page.
Remember that this will be made in click products, and that some people don't have MMF or MMF2. Want to give it a shot? Well then, show us what you got!

I guess I'm the first one to post an engine. I'm still adding to it, but I need ideas and critique.
Features:
- Double Jump
- Swimming
- Bouncing Springs
- Moving Platforms

EDIT: The bouncing spring may be hard to see, it's the red thing to the right of the water.

I think it would be better for people to submit the source rather than an .exe (if they're willing).
Failing that, tells us about how it works - does it use invisible or embedded detectors? is it fully custom or using PMO extension? is it based on an example made by someone else? etc.
That gives us a better idea of how well coded and how extensible it is.
I think the game will end up being tile-based (to make level editing easier), so ideally I'd also like at least one of the programmers to be good with tiles - especially loading/saving map arrays, creating level editors etc.
Finally, any evidence of having produced large-scale games would be a definite advantage. I think most members will be able to make simple engines for platforming, combat, map loading etc - the problems normally arise when you come to try and put them all together in one game.
Obviously it is a group project, so if you can't do any of the above, it may not matter, as there will be others willing to help - don't be put off applying, basically. Also, don't be afraid to sell yourself - in this particular thread, we won't hold it against you if you come off sounding like an arrogant SOB.
I would apply, but even if I was chosen, I'd lose interest after a week or two http://cid-b1e7ee094271bbda.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/009.mfa
MatthewWiese:
Nice engine - certainly seems solid enough. The only thing I noticed was the collision detection on the bottom - having just 1 pixel over a platform is enough to stop you falling, but I'm sure that's easily fixed. Also, can you do slopes? I would like to see the source, or hear more about it if possible.

Yeah, my game was tile based, I used 32x32 tiles. And your right, I might have lost interest in a week, at least witht the programming part. I could send you the source via PM, but you must promise that you wouldn't use it in your games, and you wouldn't steal my gfx, because I'm planning on using both in a game.

If you wanted you could build a Platforming Engine on top of my 2.5d Engine, then you could make more interesting boss battles.
You guys can use this code if you want: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?twyjlnmmzxm

i liked yours Matthew wise and i especially liked the water.
Sketchy i downloaded yours but when i tried to run the program it got an error message and MMF2 closed.
MBK il iliked the 2.5 d engine but if it had features like Matthew wiese's then that would be amazing
so, so far i think matthew wiese's is the best because it works good and it has nice features that change the game up
Whats a goon to a GOBLIN?

if you want a good level editor you should probably try and get the attention of muz or pixelthief- I know that they both ave worked in ini-level stuff like thief's random-generated gridquest gem.

If I wasn't already wrapped up in another project I would make a little test to send, maybe I can help with some other little things if they come up.

Yeah, MBK's would be cool with water and double jumping, but it might be kind of had because his is both 2d and 3d. Thanks for thinking mines the bests so far Gamemaker, that makes me feel good inside! But IF anyone has ideas, and would want to help me with the engine, I would be glad to give them the source, because I had trouble making the sliding water. But I won't trust just anybody with my source, cuz I dont feel like separating my gfx from the engine, so they'll get both, but I'm sure the gfx aren' that good anyway .

Umm, well, im making this game?
http://www.csar-games.com/newsite/main.asp?page=14&id=73
Its got a pretty good weapons engine and i was working on an autonomous ally engine as well.
Utilises PMO for movement, though i don't see anything wrong with that!!
Let me know what you think!

Thanks Dnd, I like getting positive feedback . Oh and SevenT2, I like you weapon engine, and the ally's ai is pretty damn good, we probably could use that. THe only reall thing I didn't like was the short jump height, and having to ready the rifle, but at least it's not all the weapons. XP

Matthew Wiese, if you'll add slopes, ropes, slippery floors and jump-through platforms to your engine and give me the source, I'll be using it for this game. You can genericize the graphics if you want too (replace them will blank shapes). If you so desire.
SevenT2, when saving becomes relevant, I'll be coming to you.
I'm now making the level editor.
Anyone else want to give their skills? Help me with stuff? Come on!
