Ever played Monster Rancher? While this game isn't as original as it could have been, it is fun and I definitely recomend it. There aren't a load of things to do with your monster, but the training and minigame modes offer some diversity. The monster selection process is done well, though I know there will be people who restart the game until they get the best possible monster (which matters very little later on). There a variety of monsters to chose from, and each has one of two attack types. Your monster has attack and defense statistics, though the defense is split into the two different monster types, so you'll have to chose what you feel is more important. I like how the training mode rewards you more according to how well you do in training (not found in many games of this type). The battles are progressively harder, though you can restart at the lowest level whenever you want. Tournament winnings are your main source of income to buy food for you monster, which can't do anything when it is overly hungry. The minigame gives modest monetary rewards, so you'll never be stuck with no cash and a starving monster. One of the few problems is that the graphics during the minigame and training modes are poor. It makes the game look a little unfinished when compared to the backgrounds and custom sprites of the rest of the game. This is a very neat, tidy game that doesn't substitute it's overall gameplay for spiffy features. I recomend it for a quick bit of amusement. Unfortunately, it conciseness doesn't show through in its file size. The game is 5 times as large due to an included mp3 file I feel could have easily been replaced with a midi.
