Review: Jamie's Revenge
This was a surprise release today! Here is a game called Jamies Revenge which is all about a cat who's looking for revenge after his favorite snack manufacturer is destroyed by unknown forces.
The game is presented well, and includes a very well done intro. It creates a fun backstory for this character. This game was a labor of love, and it shows.
The games engine is solid, but not perfect. After playing for about five minutes I felt like I had pretty solid control over my character, but certain aspects were a bit quirky. Jumping on enemies is more difficult than it should be because you can't control how high you jump. One button tap, and Jamie is launched like a rocket, leaving you to guide him three stories down onto the enemies head. And I never really understood the purpose of collecting the chicken necks. Since they all reappear after each death, I eventually stopped collecting them. :P
Graphics were very enjoyable. I really liked the main character. Jamie has a lot of personality, and the world he explores is full of fun gimmicks and scenery. Character animations are entertaining, and level design is also well done. Each level has a unique twists and turns. From sliding down cloths lines to hanging onto balloons, each level has it's own interesting graphic elements to interact with.
Sounds and music fit the game well. Music was always fitting for the location, and sound effects always added to the action.
Lastability will be very high for platformer fans. The game saves your progress automatically, which is always convenient. You also have unlimited lives so you can keep trying those difficult levels over and over again! Combine those things with some fun boss battles and unique worlds, and you end up with enough content to keep you playing for quite a while.
This was a close one between an 8 or a 9, but I finally had to go with an 8. If the play control (jumps in particular) had been a bit tighter, this would have been a 9. Overall, Jamies Revenge is a very fun platformer that will keep most gamers entertained for quite a while. Levels are fun, graphics are stylish and colorful, and gameplay is good enough to make this a very enjoyable romp through the land of cats and chicken necks. Jamie is also one of the most endearing characters I've seen in a Klik game for quite a while, and that's always a good thing! Highly recommended for platfomer fans.
