About:
Halloween House is a survival horror/rpg adventure game made for the www.gamebuilder.info 2007 Halloween game competition in wich it won first place.

It's a quick cartoonish spook adventure with an oldschool nes/snes look, fun references and gags.

Story:
Michael is a young boy left home alone to babysit his kid sister Alice.
It's Halloween but there's no candy in sight.
Help Michael find the candy or who knows what will happen when
the trick-or-treaters come knocking...

How to play:
Explore the house in search of candy.
Find and use items to aid you in your quest.
You can save by using the computer in Michael's room.
Don't get scared.

Controls:
Keyboard:
arrow keys - move Michael
Ctrl - examine/use/action
shift - items/cancel
ESC - quit game (works both for keyboard and joypad setting)

Joypad:
d-pad - move Michael
button#1 - examine/use/action
button#2 - items/cancel

To use a joypad you must set the joypad option to "ON" at the title screen.

Hope you enjoy!

The mirror was creepy.

Well made, but the trick-or-treaters were unnecessary.

Great stuff! I realy like how professional it feels, and that you went with the "sweet home" persective on the characters, a not so obvious reference.

Surprised that more people haven't downloaded this!

I enjoyed this game. It's pretty short, but I don't mind if it has good atmosphere and plenty of detail. Yeah, I'm surprised too - it deserves more downloads!

Thanks. Yeah it is pretty short, mainly because of timerestraint for the competition but also because I did'nt want to "artificially" add gamelength. I figured I'd go for quality over quantity I guess

Btw does anyone know how to remove those last two "broken" screenshots? I only have the first two and I dont really want to add anymore because it would be more fun to explore the house on your own.

Cool little game! would be cool with a little bonus at the end since the game is so short.. would be cool to be able to leave the house or something, go trick or treating

I actually had 3 more "rooms" planned. Backyard, frontyard and garage but there just wasnt time to do them. Maybe if I do a sequel for next years halloween you could take Michael out for trick-or-treating around the neighbourhood.

This game is awesome lol!

The only, ONLY thing I didn't really care for was the weird angles that the guy gets in when moving around.

But so far, that's it for complaints. All the nods to famous horror movies are great. (Gotta' love the Freddy Kruger sweater in the kids' room.) There's many things to interact with like the race car, kicking over the blocks, turning on the sink, turning on the TV.. great touches.

I haven't gotten too far yet because of time issues but I'll try to finish it again later. The shower part scared me a bit until the cat jumped out. I was half expecting a body to be in there or something. I saw the mirror scene decribed above and that was great too.

How do I get past the trick or threat thing ?

Posted by contra 7th December, 2007

Give him what he wants (candy)

If you're at the first doorknocking there's only five rooms you can explore. Search them carefully for items. Be sure to check the description of the items at the inventory screen for clues on what and where to use them.

ok I just finished the whole game.
It's too short, which is a shame, but everything is great.

Loved it! Too short of course. It really, really, really, really hurt my eyes with the mixed and awkward perspectives though.

Cool game man, I think it needed to be longer though.

*spoiler
Very well made!
I hade some problems with the football though, as I tried it several times in the beginning, and it didn't seem to work, so I just persumed that I wasn't supposed to do anyting with it.
Aside from that, and the game being too short, it was a good game in all aspects!!

Nice game! Short, but nice!

Anyway, you need to work on drawing perspective a little bit. Just little things really, like making everything consistant. The doors should taper as they get closer to the floor. Other than that, nice game!
