Let's suppose for the minute that N decides they are going to charge for download of their old NES/SNES/64 games, but pack in a certificate for 2 of each when you buy the system. What game would you download?

NES: Contra, Crystalis
SNES: Breath of Fire 2, Mario RPG
N64: Undecided (I already have the GC Bonus disc with all the zeldas)

NES: Gradius II, Bubble Bobble. There are others but I've got a whole bunch of NES carts on order at the moment.
SNES: Demon Crest, E.V.O.
N64: Goldeneye, I don't know what else.

Actually I think for the most part I'd look for the rare stuff that only ever made it here as imports.

Games like Contra and Konami weren't made by Nintendo, so chances are they wouldn't be among the downloadables. Nitpicking aside, I'm certain I'd get Super Mario Kart for the SNES.

I know Konami wasn't made by nintendo.
Yeah, I'm just going off of a perfect world type deal, every Nes/Snes/N64 game made on the service.
And I just though of a game I'd like for the N64, the NGE game they made, had it on emu a couple years ago, and had a pretty good time with it, even though I can't read japanese.

Holy crap I forgot about that one. I put the ROM on CD years ago when I didn't have a machine good enough to emulate it. I can finally play it now.

NES: SMB3 and Zelda (not 2, thats for damn sure)
SNES: Did Marvel vs Capcom ever get released on SNES? If so, that, if not X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Final Fantasy 3/6 or Live-a-Live
N64: Perfect Dark and Ocarina of Time, though I have both for the 64

Also, I read that Nintendo isn't charging for the downloads, I doubt that's true, because they do love money, but I hope it is.

From what I've heard, they will be charging; but not much. I'd pay like a dollar or two for an NES game, 5 for a SNES, and like 10 - 15 for a 64.

Here's a question though, would N be able to release Goldeneye again? Cause EA has the rights for bond. And how about killer instinct, cause that's now a Rare/Micro Property (bastards).

The rights only apply to making the game in the first place, you can continue to sell anything of your own.

But since MS own Rare now, we'll never see Goldeneye again.

I was talking more from a "they changed two lines of code, so it's not the same game released".
I wouldn't put it past EA to try and sue for something stupid like that, I mean, they've lost quite a bit of money lately.

I would think a new port would still count as the same title, for the same reason that developers can make a bunch of ports for every console and a completely different version (with the same name) for handhelds under a single licence.

you're probably right on that, but I wasn't sure cause N doesn't have the liscense anymore, adn hasn't for a long time.

Wait, who the hell had the liscense to begin with, N or Rare?

I just thought about something, I wonder if this will cause a new surge in SNES/NES homebrew games. It'd be cool if N took in submissions of quality homebrew games for download.

Same here, it was the first FPS to be done decently on a console, but it wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination.

Know your history boy. Goldeneye revolutionised FPSs. Objectives, having to reload every weapon, decent akimbo weapon coding, integrated story sequences, a vehicle, proper multiplayer that quite likely spiked the popularity in 4 player splitscreen in the first place.

You're thinking in the wrong mindset, it's not 1997 anymore.

DG - I had a computer, and FPS's were/still are my favorite games. Goldeneye was very "meh", I stand by my point that the only reason it was as good as it was, was that it was a console FPS. I was playing Lan Quake with 8-16 people, Team based, objective based, with Team Fortess in 1996. Know your history boy.
