It's not the only the drawings that pissed them off, but also because the newspaper refused to appologise, and when they finally did, it was shit. Some people have also been tretening to burn the Koran and The State Leader refused to even meet with some muslim ambassadors.
Also, it wasn't a joke, they have published the drawings more than once, just to piss people off.
"i'm lazy to read it but i guess it just prove that arabs are stupid, does it?"
I don't agree with either of you. It was not wrong or illegal to publish those pictures, but that doesn't prove that Muslims (not Arabs) are stupid. Neither is it a private publication's responsibility to "apologise". Free speech and all that - you can literally say what you bloody well like, without some extremist crackpots going mad at you.
Also around the time of this, a bill was rejected in the UK that threatened to censor jokes about religion. Hear hear to all those that said "Nay".
The article the cartoons were published in was about free speech, and the fact that artists are afraid to draw mohammad because they'll get lynched by muslims. Only one of the cartoons was actually offensive. A lot of this drama has been generated by an organization that's been stirring up shit in muslim countries by circulating those cartoons, plus some others that are deliberately offensive.

Hey, as a devout Muslim, I'm supposed to take offense at that! But somehow I don't. I dunno, I guess I've been desensitized by Civ4, and unlike some heretics, Islam to me is a religion about worshipping God, not God's prophet.
But I can see why people would be offended. How would Christians feel if people did a cartoon stereotyping Jesus? How would George W. Bush feel about people calling him a terrorist when all he wanted to do is liberate people from tyranny?
