It's not the only the drawings that pissed them off, but also because the newspaper refused to appologise, and when they finally did, it was shit. Some people have also been tretening to burn the Koran and The State Leader refused to even meet with some muslim ambassadors.
Also, it wasn't a joke, they have published the drawings more than once, just to piss people off.
"i'm lazy to read it but i guess it just prove that arabs are stupid, does it?"
I don't agree with either of you. It was not wrong or illegal to publish those pictures, but that doesn't prove that Muslims (not Arabs) are stupid. Neither is it a private publication's responsibility to "apologise". Free speech and all that - you can literally say what you bloody well like, without some extremist crackpots going mad at you.
Also around the time of this, a bill was rejected in the UK that threatened to censor jokes about religion. Hear hear to all those that said "Nay".
The article the cartoons were published in was about free speech, and the fact that artists are afraid to draw mohammad because they'll get lynched by muslims. Only one of the cartoons was actually offensive. A lot of this drama has been generated by an organization that's been stirring up shit in muslim countries by circulating those cartoons, plus some others that are deliberately offensive.

Hey, as a devout Muslim, I'm supposed to take offense at that! But somehow I don't. I dunno, I guess I've been desensitized by Civ4, and unlike some heretics, Islam to me is a religion about worshipping God, not God's prophet.
But I can see why people would be offended. How would Christians feel if people did a cartoon stereotyping Jesus? How would George W. Bush feel about people calling him a terrorist when all he wanted to do is liberate people from tyranny?

As far as I can see, there's nothing for Muslims to worry about. If their faith is unending, they shouldn't sweat it that some guy drew a bomb on Muhammad's head.
In my opinion, they really should know better than offending the muslims, we all know they take religion that seriously. Christians don't care that much if someone makes a joke or parody of Jesus. It's different.
However, it's just idiotic to go boycott whole Denmark just because a few DANISH CITIZENS OMG had offended them. It isn't as if christians go around killing jews on the streets because "they killed Jesus".
The Romans killed Jesus, Axel, you ignoramus. Jesus was a Jew himself.
I just read the most idiotic article in the Daily Mirror by some Muslim woman, saying they've overstepped the boundary because Islam forbids idolism - wake up you fools, these Danes aren't Muslims. She also said the cartoons weren't funny. Oh deary me, is she missing the point of this article about free speech or is it just me?
I've officially changed my mind, these extremists are stupid. Stupid and ignorant. I bet hardly any of them have read the text accompanying the cartoons.
Well, if you insult the sole purpose of some people's lives, people are bound to be angry. Free speech is one of the worst things ever introduced into society

Free speech is great, but people tend to forget that while speaking freely should also respect people. Another thing is, the newspaper wanted to get a debate going. Any bloody idiot should know you don't start a serious debate with drawings (at least not drawings depicting muslim stuff). People have a very nasty habit of looking only at the pictures and drawing conclussions from that.
Yet another thing is that it seems both the Western/danish societies refuse to try and get some understanding of how the other society works. They wanted our prime minister to punish the newspaper, but having free speech, he couldn't/wouldn't do it. They simply couldn't understand that freedom of speech was above him.
Much in the same way, the newspaper should have been wiser than to put drawings like that in an article. Imho, they should only have written the article and not have pictures by it.
The muslims here in Denmark don't boycut our stuff. As one of our (muslim) comedians said: "Danish muslims drink danish milk". My guess is that it's because they know how our system works.
Having a bunch of Imams (islamic priests) travel the middle east showing pictures of muslims (that were never published in the newspaper) getting analled by a dog, while praying and Mohammed as a paedophiliac doesn't help either.
I guess this whole incident actually shows why there SHOULDN'T be free speech. A newspaper actually got its newspaper license revoked by both Muslims and non-Muslim senators for putting a "we don't care" style news post (cartoons included) in one of the somewhat Christian states of Malaysia.
Free speech is OK for when you wish to make a point, tell people what's wrong with the government, but this is an all too perfect example of how free speech can be worse than murder. Muslims take (or at least pretend to take) a smiling cartoon of Muhammad as a bigger insult than a pic of their buddies being analled by a dog. It's a *HUGE* taboo, one of the most offending things someone could do, probably started so that people don't try to look like Muhammad, but turning out into something like this. Either way, I don't think "free speech" makes a good enough excuse.
But anyway, free speech has been bad enough that it's not allowed here. Got banned after a massive racial riot that happened because of some insults (as usual, something to do with elections). Doesn't seem to work too well in USA either, where people could just slander each other and competiting products. Bad, bad concept, like capitalism and communism .
Hmm.. I feel like playing Civ4 now...

It seems to me that it's perfectly understandable to be offended by the pictures or whatever else. However acting in the way those London "protestors" did is completely rediculous.
@Muz, I think it shows why there ISN'T free speech.
It's all bollocks anyway, the Muslim extremists are spreading pictures which were never printed in an effort to stoke up hatred in the Islamic nations. Bastards.
This is stupid. Jesus is put in cartoons all the time: South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, even that new piece of crap Drawn Together, and yet christians don't become rabid nutters who feast on the flesh of infedels. They can't take a joke, because they're primitive sand monkies from the core of Mars. DIE MUSLIM, DIE!(No offense Muz, I don't really mean it).
Fine Garbage since 2003.
CURRENT PROJECT:
-Paying off a massive amount of debt in college loans.
-Working in television.
I think it's crap that the protesters have seem to have lost all direction with their protests. Down with bush? How the fuck is THAT related to a comic done across the pond.
It's sad that this is being used as an excuse by a few to attack absolutely anything they don't like; relevant or not. The burning of the embassy(ies?) was pure, pure bullshit; and it's strengthening the belief of the extremesits on the other side that both islam/muslim followers are nothing but uppity extremists that like to lash out.
Hey, Buddha's cool. Though for a non-materialistic religion, those buddha statues tend to be pretty damn expensive.
Hmm... haven't really been keeping track of the protests in other nations. It's pretty peaceful here, anyone who wants to stir up hatred in this country gets hit with the equivalent of America's Patriot Act .
Sad as it seems, I think we're on the verge of a crusade/WW3 here. Seems like some people would do anything to start one, and I don't think anyone will win this time. Some self-righteous heretic will use Western "free speech/religion" mistakes to their advantage, probably starting some kinda fascism by 2010. Nobody will win.. their dirty terrorist tactics are already working too well. USA sent thousands of troops, dropped tons of bombs, barely scratched al-Qaeda, and all they did was turn themselves from the "poor victimized people" into the "evil anti-Asians". They can't win, Asians (especially West Asians) have a long history of unconventional warfare, guerilla fighting, assassinations.
The "war on terror" itself is bringing a LOT of losses to the USA, huge debts from war & security, far more than what a direct ICBM would do to an American city... and no profits at all. Nobody dares to invest in a scared country, and its bad enough that all the jobs are being outsourced. Seems like the world's only superpower is doomed. You Americans should emigrate to Malaysia, where all the hot Asian bimbos chase after the foreign guys, where internet access is $0.50 an hour, where hackers and computer pirates roam free under the watchful eyes of corrupt police. It's an exotic tropical paradise for any geek .

But would it make the world view much worse than it already is?
Lets face it, they've bombed the heck out of Afganistan and Iraq already.
It seems to me that more Muslims are potential extremists than we are told. They just have to be offended enough. It also seems that some think the 'west' is evil and controlled by the USA.
Wasn't there some new action movie from Turkey where the West is also being portrayed as evil and such, and was requested for banning in Germany by some German politician? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493264/
"It seems to me that more Muslims are potential extremists than we are told. They just have to be offended enough. It also seems that some think the 'west' is evil and controlled by the USA."
> Hey, I'm no potential extremist. Just a potential terrorist, though I blame all of that on violence in games . Well, technically, a lot of countries (like Singapore, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Egypt) are cowering to the USA, and no countries seem to have the guts to force the US into reducing its pollution, so I can say that most of the world is already controlled by the USA.
After all, a terrorist bomb can only kill a few thousand at worst. American bombs can and do kill a lot more, and the cluster bombs actually violate some anti-mine international laws. But nobody really dares to stand up to the big guy and tell them to stop picking on the little guys, just because the little guy's brother poured some superglue in the big guy's burger.

Muz, is your argument that the Americans are worse because they have bigger bombs?
Yeah I think the world will end soon enough. I just hope I am a millionare by then..... I don't want to die without atleast having one golden toliet to my name.
I'm from Denmark and I find the whole thing rediculous.
The cartoonists should never have drawed that stuff, but the extremist muslims are making this a far bigger problem that it is.
The western world turned this into a fight for freedom of expression, but the extremists still believe that its an attack on their religion which it wasn't supposed to be in the first place. Religeous misunderstandings are always a great source for hate and many wars have started like that.
You can be pretty sure that the cartoonists would like to push the allmighty undo-button if it was possible. They didn't want this to happen at all.
