Worst Genre: First Person Shooters. Absolutely awful, I can't stand playing them. Unless it's old school Doom and Wolf3D, but the news ones suck.
Best Genre: Adventure (Point & Click) - Games that don't involve shooting things and actually have logic and story to it. I'll take a Sierra/Lucasarts game any day over any other game.
Oh yeah, the Bible is a fictional book and there is no God. lol.
Worst Genre: Survival horror games like resident evil. It's not scary and not fun at all.
Best Genre: Platformer. I actually like RPG's better but I don't have time for them. And I mean platformers like mario world, the big ones with saving slots and stuff.
Worst genre is anything the 'interactive novel' sort of genre. Not IF, I mean like shitty japanese ren'ai games that don't reward you with anything fappable or like shab said, FMV games.
I don't know about the best genre; I like a bit of everything.
Life sims are shit. Not the ones like Simcity or Spore, but like the Sims and its insane amount of stupid expansion paks. It's just pointless. I played it for days, and still my guy was just a dumbass bum with no friends who couldn't get a decent job, and just refused to do anything I told him to do. One word: GET A LIFE.
Not really. It depends what you play them for. I use to play the sims to design cool houses, I was never bothered about the actual Life part of the game.
Best: Platformers (same as Hayo, the more exploration type stuff like Cave Story and Super Mario World)
Worst: Soccer games. They don't improve on anything except a bit of graphics.
You have to explore quite a bit when you want to play all levels. But I think X-Sheep meant "big awesome platformer with loads of secrets" instead of the exploration genre.
Life Sims are retarded. Most of us have a real life.
Anyway...
Best: Platformers and Adventure Games (where you can explore and stuff)
Worst1)Sports Games- These are for people that are too fat to play sports 2)Sim Games- I liked Sim Ant and Sim City, but the rest suck 3)RPGs because they're all the same
Fine Garbage since 2003.
CURRENT PROJECT:
-Paying off a massive amount of debt in college loans.
-Working in television.
Best: Between platformers, sports sims and God games (Civ, Sim City).
Worst: FPS.
And I disagree, Lazarus (AKA Evil Titty), about sports sims. They are not for people to fat for sports, IMO they're for people who like sports regardless of whether they play or not. I play sport all the time, I play footy games all the time - what does that make me? Non-existent???
Worst Genre: Text Adventure - I personally don’t find it a game, more like those path books where you decide what happens next.
Best Genre: Tie between RTS and RPG (Especially Online) - Games like Empire Earth 2 and AOE3 are great online with friends, and MMORPG's are a huge blend between community, adventure, and strategy with world full of real people, not AI. Its a great genre hands down.
That's just crap. Overweight people does not play sport games more than atlethic/sport people. I promise you this. You play sport games because you're interested in that sport, and follows a specific team or athlete whatever. Usally you practice this sport yourself too, or did when you were younger.
By the way, I totally hated both CS and Metroid Prime.
But I love RPGs/platform, mixed if possible... something like Wonderboy <3
it was a lucky guess man! similarly RPG stands for Role Playing Games and M stands for Mature so don't touch any rated M games kid .. oh! and i guessed one more thing .. FU stands for FUCK YOU!

Damn, I wanted to spark controversy. I fail at offensive nature.
I might make a click adventure game of the DaVinci code. That'd be awesome, if it were not for the real adventure game of the DaVinci code already coming out.
I got dragged to the movie (against my will). It's bad, not horrible, but damned close. It takes itself WAY to seriously; to the point of lucidity in some points, and it's very slow paced; hell, I wouldn't even call it pacing. Some people call Hanks acting "wooden"; I think they whacked the fucker with a 2X4 before every scene to brain damage him. Seriously, I've seen some of those same, "Nothing behind the eyes" looks from my rats. If I hadn't been with someone who wanted to see it, I would have walked out.
If you gets dragged to this movie; bring a gameboy. You'll thank me later.
I don't even see why people were offended by it. People are stupid to take a fiction novel seriously (I don't care if you think Jesus and Mary had an affair, it's still a stupid story).

Taking fiction seriously is what makes them christians, dude.
Personally, all genres may or may not appeal to me, it depends on the game. For sports, NBA Hangtime and NFL Blitz are awesome games. Mostly, sports games that aren't just real life are the best, but even some of those can be good. For FPS, people who think they don't involve thinking obviously don't spend much time in FPS's, they require very fast thinking and reflexes, and many times, when you get really good, tactics is what wins, not reflexes.
RTS games are quite complex and require thinking too. Those who don't like them just don't have the attention to appreciate them. RPGS are very entertaining too, anyone on here should understand that. You get to make what you are in many of them, and even in the ones that you don't, the plot can be quite fascinating. Once again, one that requires attention. Simulation games can be fun too, just because you have a life doesn't mean that you can't wonder what it might be like to play with a different one.
Heart Break Kid, at least ive got friends. how old are you? 6? 7? Stop being a fuck head and act your fucking age. And looking up gay pr0n doesnt make you older, stop doing it and once again, GROW UP. What sort of a name is Heart Break Kid?
Best Genre: 2D Platformer, FPS, Adventure (Elder Scrolls, Zelda, etc), free roaming crime games (GTA specifically, it deserves its own genre)
Worst Genre: Real Time Strategy, bloody football games, beat-em-ups, text driven management games
WTF you guys are like totally downing the Da Vinci Code? Its really not that bad at all, I rather enjoyed it and found Ian "IM A BENT WIZARD IN LORD OF TEH RINGS" played his role really well. It wasnt boring it was freaking ..better than ever....y thing.
"Taking fiction seriously is what makes them christians, dude."
What? Are you serious? The bible is the divinly inspired true word of God. How dare you call it fiction. You see people like you are simply ignorant and don't want to be held accountable by a higher power. So you chose not to believe on the lord Jesus Christ.
Invalid Logic:
A is for B.
C has an A.
Therefore C is a B.
Valid Logic:
A is a B.
All B's are C's.
Therefore A is a C.
"What? Are you serious? The bible is the divinly inspired true word of God. How dare you call it fiction. You see people like you are simply ignorant and don't want to be held accountable by a higher power. So you chose not to believe on the lord Jesus Christ."
We have a choice to believe in Jesus, free will and all.
Blindly believing in all that is ignorance, because you refuse to accept the possibility of the bible not being 100% true.
Whoever dissed point and click has obviously never played point and click.
Best: I honestly don't think there is a best genre. A game that affects you strongly in any other way than thinking "I've had enough of this shit" is a good one.
Worst: I'm tempted to say first person shooters, because I think most of them are shit, but the half life games are great.
So I'll say platformers *red dot appears on forehead*. I know a lot of you guys love old school stuff nostalgia and all but *gets shot*
Stuckboy
JC Denton: "I know your UNATCO killphrase: Laputan Machine."
Gunther Hermann: "I - am - not - a - machi --"
JC Denton: "Sticks and stones..."
Because dude, I don't think it's possible to say any genre is 'too easy'. There are reasons not to like adventure games, but I don't think that's a valid one. If that is your only problem, you're probably only playing poor examples.
"They just aren't challenging enough."
Sounds like a legal reason to not like the genre in general. Some people are not chalenged by "just pointing and klikking", others are, so to me it's not really about easy or difficult.
Personally I do like a lot of point&click games by the way, especially the lucasarts ones and the discworld games.
I've given an example of one that's challenging no matter who you are (actually so did he, I think). "Not enough action" is a different reason, and a totally valid one.
With my addiction to action, I seriously wonder why I love Turn Based Strat so much. That and RPG's to a lesser extent (Example: I haven't played a Final Fantasy game that I've liked {Main FF games; Tactics Rules})
Best: Haven't really got a fav one, but I like open ended games or games where you have more than one option of progressing... Stuff like Deus Ex, Freelancer, The GTA games. RTSs are also great.
Worst: Myst-type games where you basically click on a couple of computer generated photos and 'solve' incredibly boring puzzles. I also don't really like tradition-style rpgs.
Worst: I was gonna say RTS (because the strategy part is kindof lost in real time imo) but I remembered that my disgust for sportsgames like "Fifa whatever-the-fuck-year-it-is" far outweighs that of my dislike for RTS's.
Best: Platformers, everything ranging from the on-a-rail layout in Mario/Megaman-games to the exploration of Metroid/Castlevania, and I love'em
People always describe Castlevania as an exploration game like Metroid, although the Castlevania game i had on the SNES was just a set of levels (as far as i remember). Can anyone tell me which game(s) from the Castlevania series are like Metroid? (Gotta love Metroid)
By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named night,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule
From a wild clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of space
Out of time.
@Nick - The Metroid like Castlevania games started on the Playstation. Ther was only one for the PS1 though, and that was Symphony of the Night.
Following that there were 3 GBA games,
Circle of the Moon
Can't remember this one
Aria of Sorrow
There's one for the DS and the second one for the DS is coming out soon, and it looks like it will be able to topple Symphony as the greatest castlevania.
BTW the super NES one was probably Super Castlevania 4; I consider it to be the best of the old school castelvania's.
Ah, i see. As far as i was concerned Castlevania died after the SNES... where have i been all these years . I'll see if i can check any of those games out.

I really can't see why the FIFA 200X games would be classified as strategy games. They'd rather belong in the sports/action cathegory. Have you ever played any of the Warcraft or Command & Conquer games? No?
I think i'll just post to say,
unless you have played every single game in every genre, it's almost impossible to judge which genre is the best and worst due to the fact that they all have good and bad games in them.
You will probably play one good game and decide you like that genre as whole but that wont be enough to say that particular genre is better than another.
Play half life 2 and you'll love FPS, PLay command and conquer and you'll love RTS, play final fantasy 7 and you'll love RPG.
Unless you already have a biased view on the games beforehand.
You say that, but i despise FF7 and Command and Conquer (Half life 2 is ok i suppose). It's all down to opinion really. In my eyes, all first person shooters are very similar, my favourite is Far Cry and is the only one i really play. The same goes for RPGs, if you don't like one, it's not very likely you'll like others. I guess there's exceptions like Secret of Mana, which is a little more of an action-rpg i guess, seeing as you run around and bash enemies.
Sports genre is pretty aweful though in my opinion... i mean you can go out and play football whenever you want.

"Worst Genre: First Person Shooters. Absolutely awful, I can't stand playing them. Unless it's old school Doom and Wolf3D, but the news ones suck. "
yes of course, the new ones suck
ignoring the fact the graphics are awesome and the engine is as well
lets just compare Half Life 2 (which is a new game so it must suck) with Wolf3D where EVERY FUCKING ROOM LOOKS THE SAME
thats something i cant stand playing. i will walk around for 5 minutes then I will get a headache and throw over because every fucking thing looks the same. The graphics are just too horrible.
Dont get me wrong I like old games but thats only for 2d games. I really love the graphics of NES games while I cant stand any old 3d games.
Worst Genre: Those gay pet sims. Its really a genre for girls and I think its gay just like Nintendogs. It doesnt even have to be a pet sim. The Sims are pretty gay as well. It's all the old doll house thing. Girls play with dolls-boys play with toy guns. Girls will play The Sims which is just a virtual doll house and boys will play FPS.

I disagree. To a certain extent yes, theyre sad, but Im always interested in seeing how close programmers can get to real-life simulation. Nintendogs gets boring after about ten minutes, but theres no denying they're still reasonably life-like.
Best Genre : FPS, Action Side Scrollers, Racing Games, Top Down Action Games.
Worst Genre : Empire Building, Puzzle Games, and RTS games that try to do too much...
RTS games that just emphasize on the Detail of the Units, instead of trying to be Real-time, Expantionistic, Universe conquering type games. There is never enough detail in them to make it interesting, usually your limited to a handful of preconcieved unit types which gets old quickly... After the first few hours making the units fight each other it gets pretty stale...
I think the problem is that the professinal game makers try to keep the formula as streamlined and simple as possible to cater to the non-gamers out there.
What ever happened to the days of StarFlight, and David Brabens games, like Elite. There are so many games from the old school of P.C. gaming that just don'tget done anymore, it's all about the quick buck, not the content anymore. That's why there is so much garbage out now. Just think, when was the last time you saw a Console or P.C. game coming out that even remotley got your attention? It's been a while eh?
I've always wanted to design my own computer/video games, even when it was being done by the masters.
Remember Ultima 6, 7, 7 1/2 and 8 < 8 actually stunk it was the departure of the detailed game design? What about Mercenaries, or Breach 1 and 2, and 3 Or Rules of Engagement? What about X-Com, Tegal's Mercenaries, Hard Nova, Carrier Command, or Planets Edge, Star Control 1 and 2, Covert Action, Postal, Starflight 1 & 2. You might not remember or have heard of some of these games, but they were some of the ones that made me say, "Damn, I wanna do that!" Mind you that most if not all of the games I mentioned were 2D hand drawn!
