yo dudes.
check out my project after i loose on tk's comp. and tell me something positive
its a platformer. something like shoot and run
it's a wannabe a contra and worldwar2FPS mix game. here is the 'engine', please tell me what you think about it.
i'd love to hear some bugs to be fixed or something like this.
Nice so far. I'm not keen on the spinning jump thing - just looks odd to me. Also, there's at least one bug - if you walk into the blue wall and jump at the same time, you get stuck 'in' the platform above.

The control scheme is VERY messy. Why set up the game to use WASD, a control scheme for leaving the mouse free for use, then U and I, which is too far from WASD to still be using the mouse, and then not using the mouse at all?
In other words, stick with arrow keys + ctrl+shift or Z+X rather than this messy control scheme you set up.
its just the way i like.
i can change it in the control+y menu.
and there wont be any mouse control.. it is a contra styled game.
and u should not use Z for action button, coz my Z button is there where your Y button. thats messy. ;>

"and there wont be any mouse control.. it is a contra styled game."
Then you shouldn't use WASD as the default controls, because those are intended to be used in combination with the mouse. If you're left-handed, fine, but make sure the defaults are what can be easy to use for most people. I restarted the game by pressing F2 and I could reconfigure the keys all again.
"and u should not use Z for action button, coz my Z button is there where your Y button. thats messy. ;>"
Use both Z and Y for the same action, then...
Nice work! I'd like to play a whole level of this, so please finish at least that much.
Just a couple of things:
The default controls are awkward. I'm a lefty and I still felt like I was never going to get used to them. Maybe your beta testers are ambidextrous..! It doesn't matter if the player can press Ctrl+Y to change the controls, the default setup should be easy to use for most people. I would suggest cursor keys for movement and A/S (or 1/2 if differing international keyboard layouts really bother you) for shooting/jumping. It would also be nice to have a 3rd button to enable the player to stop while shooting diagonally up/left or up/right.
A few people have already mentioned the endless somersault bug, and I saw it a few times too. Contra is a tricky engine to mimic, and you've made a good effort. You probably just need to jiggle around (technical terms soz!!1) the events a little to get it working perfectly.
One other minor thing; rather an inconsistency than a bug if you're aiming for a perfect Contra engine: If you walk off the edge of a platform, the guy does a somersault jump. AFAIK, this never happened in any 2D version of Contra - it should be a single-frame falling animation (very similar to one of the frames in the Walking anim). A minor thing, but Contra fans will notice it immediately.
Good luck with the game - if you release it at the same time as Contra 4 (DS) you'll get a lot more interest.
