I want to pick a game that I can expand greatly on, but really expanding it IS gonna make it different from the origional. But if I keep the actual gamestyle and storyline, expanding is gonna award me originality, rather than hurt me in the 'Fan Game' department? n/a

The originality category isn't a very lax scoring category, the fangame category is. It's up to you to decide how original you want to make it, but I would err on the side of originality since it's worth more points.
