I just relized Tormshire has about 58 stars which is a large amount compared to other games on here. I must say, the game looks amazing. It's a shame I didn't chekc the project out sooner. Anybody else looking forward to this game other than me which is kind of a stupid question.

Well you really don't have to post it here. You could just post it in the project's forum.

I think it depends on how you look at it. Someone like Werewoof will think it looks like the best indie game ever, but if you visit TIGsource, your eyes will be opened.

Since it's been on the projects page for about 2 years, that's normal I guess.

You should have posted on their project page forum...

The origin of all that was totally unrelated to Derek, another admin asked my permission to post a trailer, I gave it and everything was honky dory until the post was never made. Eventually it was.

TBH this isnt really an indie site. its a game creation community. most indie sites only report on indie news. not have a database of games. which, tigsource has. and it has quite a lot. most of which is better than anything on tdc.

Indie site, game creation community... same thing. If anything, having a database of user-made games makes it even more of an indie site. Now, if we said "Indie News Website" I'd be inclined to agree that TDC isn't one, but drop the "news" and we're just as indie as anyone else.

Besides, Werewoof said "Indie Community." And I'd like to think we have one of the best indie communities...

TDC as it is now is just a small amount of the whole indie scene. How long has it been since anyone submitted a game not made with a Clickteam product? Do we even know how big 'Click' measures on the indie scene scale is as a whole?

It's always been my favourite click community site, although there has rarely been anything to match it's sheer amount of users and content.

But what it isn't is the best. You can't have the best with games from such a limited selection of game creation tools.

TBH, I find that it's one of the least friendly Most other communities form little cliques where they'd start clans together and stuff. A lot of them rarely get into flame wars, which I think is quite cool; everyone would back off when things get heavy. TIGSource is pretty awesome.

TDC is one of the friendlier of the klik sites though. If you've seen some of the old klik sites - damn, they were nasty. Pretty much copy and paste someone's typos and lololol at them till someone forgets the joke. Still friendly to their own mates, though.

Also, there are certain game making sites where the admins actively abuse members. Those still live, surprisingly. MBK knows what I mean

It used to be worse here. It's a little predator and prey cycle. The prey leave after getting bullied. When some troll runs out of prey, he'll usually leave TDC. A few come back after the site gets big again, but lately, TDC's been keeping itself small enough to keep the trolls out.

Nonklik games are submitted.. ALL the time. But always gets swamped by klik games.

And Click is shrinking on the indie scene. Used to be huge during the MMF1 days, but it's getting smaller and smaller. Most people regard it as nothing special, just that a lot of Clickers (e.g. Derek Yu, Nifflas, Mark Pay, James, Adam, Rixx, Ashley) have been more motivated than other indie game developers. But Derek made some sweet game in GM and Ashley's working on Construct.. what does that mean? They're still Klikers at heart, but not actively using MMF anymore.

exactly why this isnt an "indie" site of any flavor. with the exception of a few, almost all games submitted here are just amatuer made games with someone who wanted to make a game and found a simple game making utility like tgf mmf gm or construct.

independent means its free of major publishing. if you get your hands on a copy of gm and make a shyte game, you arent indie. i dont even consider myself indie.

theres only a few people i would consider to be indie on this site (even if only slightly)

An Indie game developer is a game developer that does not rely on a publisher or corporation to make their games, and fund development themselves, and publish themselves usually via internet, are they not? Are we getting money from an outside source to make our games? Even if our games are crap, they're still Indie.

Now, if we were talking about professional-grade indie games, I would agree that there are only a few here, if any... same as most other indie communities I'd say.

It's just a matter of how you look at the word "indie"... Even with the definition technically applying to all of us here, I don't tend to think of us as Indie game developers. But I still think of clicking in general as indie game dev.

I guess I'll shut up now.

That's a matter of personal opinion. I like a good fan game if it's a good fan game... it's just that usually skilled game developers use their time to make unique stuff.

IMHO, nothing wrong with a fan game if it's good. Fan games are usually like movie games, though.. rushed, sloppily made, lazy. If you make it a real game, should be great. I play some X-Com fan games.

this is a highly debated topic in the indie scene. making a game just because you can doesnt make you indie. its the whole debate whether or not a game (or game creator) is amateur or indie. i guess indie could encompass amateur. but its still amateur.

personally id go as far as saying only something independantly published and sold as indie. or something that has the potential to be independantly published and sold.

if its not worth paying money for it probably isnt indie. its amateur.

and now ILL shut up

Yep, makes sense. It just depends if you imagine a "game developer and commercial publisher" or just "game developer" on the end of that "indie"... One encompasses a much larger audience than the other.

The trouble with making a fangame of a popular series is that it has a lot to live up to. The fans will hope for something as close to the real games as possible.
In most cases the people making these games are only doing it for the fun of it, so they don't care about accuracy as much as the players will.

Yes, I remember MFGG. I visited MMFGHQ a few times back in the day, but usually Strider's domain (smmd.net FTW!) is where I got the ones I played. Strider's hanging around here now too...

Sadly, both of those sites died years ago...

Well, fan games can be fun too, if they are done right. They shouldn't just try to copy the original game, that's kinda pointless. Why would people want to play a worse version of an old game? As long as they put their touch on things, it could still be great. Throw in some original stuff yeah? ~w~

Ummm, how did this thread turn into a discussion about fangames?
