The level editor example I'm working on now will have a better autotile that can update tiles as you place them.

We don't need more "newbie" tutorials. That's a fact. Focus on more advanced stuff!
Btw, aren't you that guy who spread a virus?

In the meantime, you can use my public example for the 'autotile' Tile generator further down in the post.

I agree with Fordom. If you are going to spend time making tutorials, focus your efforts or something more advanced.
You seem to be fairly capable with MMF, shows us something impressive!
I wanna see: Open GL, split screen, zooming in, trajectory projectiles, god rays. That sorta shit!

I've been pretty busy the last few days (more so than anticipated) so I haven't had as much time to work on this as I had hoped.
I probably won't cover Open GL since there are other programs way more suited for doing things like that, but I like some of the other suggestions.
Actually the method Jacob uses to fix tiles is totally different than the way UWC works. Jacobs method uses images stored in an active object and places the correct tile based on the object animation frame. Mine uses an external tileset for quick external editing and references different positions on the tileset to place the right tile. Each of these methods could have pros and cons in different situations, so it's good to have more than one way of doing something.

If you're talking about the selection method in UWC for filling tiles or selecting what tiles to autotile, that's basically how it works, but that has nothing to do with how it tells what tiles to use.

nice work mate, don't listen to the haters! I think it'd be cool if the community worked together to make a high quality database of examples, and good ones like you say, fully commented, effcient, bug free etc. a place where only the best get stored.
perhaps even a weekly contest -
week 1 - explosion particle effect example contest
week 2 - 360 degree movement example contest
week 3 - homing missile example contest
etc.
it'd be something anyone could join in without really distracting themselves from their main projects like too many game making compos do.. I always find it fun/energizing when I help a few people with an example, it makes me more productive again.. for a while

That is a very good idea!
Can we get an admin to set it up please? If not, lets just do it outselves. DIY or die!

Sounds like exactly what I've been talking about. I think it sounds like a very solid idea, and perhaps one of the most constructive things that could happen here with the community. I could upload the best examples to my examples site as well (giving credit of course).
I think it would be a lot more lively than the usual game compos because just making an engine is a lot less overall work than creating an entire game and more people are likely to actually submit quality examples. I have seen a lot of great engines for things that eventually get scrapped due to things like graphics, sounds, etc.

3/3 people surveyed think it's a good idea.. that's 100% approval rating! make it happen admins!
with a bunch of simple, adapatable, expandable engines/examples for users to play with, we might even see some more games get made as well..

Neil Butcher. I still think you need to do openGL. Tell me again why you won't do examples?
