Please note several things: 1) This post is _not_ another of my long winded soon-to-be-famous "fascist" rants. 2) The below post is entirely my own perogative; I haven't asked anyone else about it so I cannot make any promises 3) I'm getting very bored with long adminish posts so this will be the last, I promise
OK. You may have read, skimmed or ignored my "Freedom of Speech" topic. I say that the members of DC do not deserve freedom of speech... but that doesn't mean that you don't get it, to a degree, or that we want to deprive you of it. Just that you shouldn't expect it.
So, I want to hear YOUR ideas. The site needs a set of rules that we can point to and say "These have been broken". All the other sites have them, whereas DC doesn't even have a set of guidelines. I am aware this has been raised in the past, but in lieu of recent happenings I want to push it through, so that new and old alike will know what is expected of them at this site. And I want to make the chosing of the rules a democratic process... just to show that we're not Nazis! (Like you thought we were anyway )
Please post sensible suggestions for rules relating to the use of this site. Feel free to debate other's suggestions but don't wonder off topic. And keep this post for RULES suggestions only, not suggestions for the addition of features etc.
I'll start off (feel free to argue)
- No use of deflamatory language directed at others
- No otherwise use of racial or ethnic slur
- No repeat postings about the same game... e.g. spamming
- Previews and downloads must contain at least one screenshot and a sizeable description
- Articles must be well written, to the point and relevant to kliking
I disagree with the screenshot and description thing. Screenshots can be a bother with most free servers and descriptions are hard work to the many people who don't know much English.
It's enough of a punishment as it is when the user doesn't put them there. Bad comments, ignored stuff, etc. Heck, back in my days as an admin, SC told us that we should put ALL the decent games with screenshots and descriptions on the front page.
As for articles, not all of them need be written that well. What's important is that they give any form of benefit whatsoever, even if it's non-klik related. I'd say that a very nice article on pancake recipes would be tolerable. After all, it takes more effort to write an article than to read it. And you don't have to read an article you don't wanna read.
I agree with the others, though. Especially the first. If you're gonna flame someone, at least let it be of benefit. Anything like "you're an idiot" without any point to it should be deleted.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.

Actually, I agree with everything Pete has said. There are so many games at DC, and if you compare the number of games with no screenshots to the number which do have them, and compare them to the download count, you'll find that no-screens equals very few downloads. We only have your word on what that game will be like. Screenshots help to advertise your game, and there are so many hosts which DO accept screenshots, so there really is no excuse not to include them. I think a game without screenshots should automatically be rejected.
I also think that you can only submit ONE preview of a game, and not 5 or 6 new ones containing new information. Just ONE preview, which can be edited and updated when necessary. And once the game is released... delete the preview! And don't bother previewing a game if only a couple of days later it's due to be released. Whats the point? It's a hype attempt, and you don't get hype in a couple of days, it takes a while.
Admins should make games! So it gives us rebels plenty of insult material!
Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
No screenshot, but a description. Shen, character limits are dumb-- i've posted on a character-limit site before. I had written this awesome article about sprites that i spent an hour on, and was 5 characters over.
Remember, there's a little darkness in all of us... we just express it best.

Not large limits, I meant; just enough to keep people from "hey I just made this game and it's quite gd! can u download it and tell me wht u think." ing.
"Previews and downloads must contain at least one screenshot and a sizeable description"
Not everyone knows a server that supports screenshots that can be seen on TDC. The games without screenshots will probably get overlooked anyways.
How about these rules:
-For each thumbs up that your game gets, you get 1 DC point.
-The admins must update the Game of the Week poll every week.
-The General poll must be updated every other week.
All of my screen shots are cut off by Downloadz . Yet again I need to find a better server. But I agree with Pete Nattress about the 'racial or ethinc slur,' and the "use of deflamatory language directed at others" bit.
Fine Garbage since 2003.
CURRENT PROJECT:
-Paying off a massive amount of debt in college loans.
-Working in television.
I never thought you were Nazis!
Pete, Circy, and AA are some of my
favorite members.
I agree about the screenshot but
I think the description needs to
say what is needed.
(1 1/2 para AT LEAST; say stuff about the game itself)
Otherwise good! Except, relevant to game making, not
JUST kliking. Kliking a Plus though.

-Above post is ancient and probably irrelevant-
An old account of mine, recently cleared out. It's a blast to the past, the age was marked as 14 when I found it. If you know where to look, you can track me. Au revoir.
