i've been reading various parts of the klikme site - www.klikme.com - and i was wondering if anyone else wastes their time doing the same thing. don't get me wrong, i think the reviews on there are fine, and the downloads are well chosen. but the way the site functions - e.g. the admins are always right, only the admins can add stuff, etc - is extremely fascist. and this inherent facism is of course a cause of all the flaming, arguing and generally immature behaviour that i see there. which is what i find heavily ironic considering it professes itself to be made for the more mature part of the click community! aha.

what i also find funny - and somewhat annoying - is how every other post is a dig at the daily click. they just can't resist it, which is something i find very sad indeed, because if the only thing their site can do is slag off another site it doesn't bode very well for its future.

why am i bitching about this here? well, because over there, i'd be flamed into next week, and my post would be instantly deleted. such is the way of things. what does everyone else think about klikme?

JD is in defence mode, seeing as he works there.. lol

I've always and will always come here, its a nice place to come to, it has its ups and downs but apart from that everything is fine, and I see no reason to visit these other communities when you get everything and more here.

anyway Pete, they just make themselves look stupid when this is THE most popular click community and is supported and helped by Clickteam themselves.

Technically on a professional place for games, only the people who work there add the games and reviews. (though in the past year, I think, IGN.com has added the ability for user reviews, but they're on a separate score) As long as the admins there aren't selfish 13-18 year olds who think they're the MAN and what not I could see that the admin's word being final, admin always right, thing working... Only if they were mature and responsible.

Of course, I haven't clicked on the site link yet!

well JD i see you don't like to exlude yourself from the dc-bashing so i must pose the question: why are you here? and i certainly wouldn't expect some of the stuff i see there on a regular community site, so it's not true that it happens everywhere. and i consider you a main culprit of the immaturity, JD, after all: "PPS. Screenshots in reviews are gay"... a brilliant display of a mature use of english.

Ok, "volunteer to submit content" - but even so, you still defend them carelessly because you "Volunteer" there don't you?

yes, like if you volunteer yourself to be in a political party it doesn't mean you won't try and defend their views just because you're not being paid.

All right, here we go once again.

Klik-Me was supposed to work differently than TDC does. It's a given fact that the average submission quality is pretty low here - and that's what kept annoying me. I of course do agree that this is a good site for new klikkers to get into the whole game making business etc., but I don't think that the real blockbuster games deserve to disappear that soon after their release like they do here. That's why I kept visiting TK and PK until they both went down. When that happened I decided to start a new community site for the more professional half of the community. I never considered that a problem - especially since TK and PK coexisted with TDC as well.

That's why I was pretty surprised about what happened here. Some people might remember the huge comments list and all that crap that happened with the reviews. And I have no idea why you have to start it again, Pete. The admins on KM aren't always right - if they were, no comments for reviews and articles would be needed. However, the admins were the ones that know the community and that volunteered to do the job on KM (ie writing articles and such). If somebody wants to work there all he'd have to do is ask me and give me a small example and if an admin doesn't do his job properly he'll loose his position. However, having only a few people that actually update the site (and that take a look at what users submitted - yes, that's possible, too... It just won't appear on the site directly) gives me more control about the content. And since I want quality content only I do need that control. If everybody could submit anything, KM would be another TDC... And who needs another TDC if there already is one?

o_O sorry i honestly don't remember seeing anything to do with KM before now, so forgive me if this is a "dead topic". just wanted to have a say, is all.

i don't disagree with the overall philosophy, but you could allow some form of user input just so it's not JUST a review site... not only that, but a "we're right and you're wrong" review site. like in a review for commando, i see someone decides to write his own review of the game in the comments, and he gets threatened with deletion. if you're going to be an admin run site you should at least choose some good admins. and by good i mean very good.

but that's not my main point anyway. my main point is there is a large amount of immature behaviour on a site that professes to be for the more adult part of the community.

I'm guessing that by "every other site on the internet" he means 99%. That means he was only off by 33079986.01 pages according to google.

perhaps, JD, but my problem with the site is that there is a high proportion of idiotic and hateful behaviour, when, according to its mandate, it is reserved for the more mature people of the community.

oh and by the way, it was chace in the example i referred to and he said this: "CGman, if you really feel that your passion is reviewing games, and you'd like to do it for Klik-Me; contact Jannis. Otherwise, create your own site and write your own reviews there. But don't, for the love of your status remaining unbanned, do what you just did. Thank you."

About more user interaction: I agree. However, the current code won't allow it... That's why I'm working on KM2 that is going to have stuff like user reviews, personal mails and a much improved forum.

About the user review for Commando: I remember people complaining about the user review posted in the comments. I posted that I didn't see any problem with that and that was the whole story, everything was all right afterwards. KM is still a pretty young site and of course the whole team doesn't have an exact idea of what's allowed and what isn't.

About the "immature behaviour": Gimme an example. I think one point of being mature is not to take this whole community too seriously - jokes have to be allowed. Of course it is a stupid stereotype that everybody who visits TDC is a newbie who hasn't got the slightest idea of how to behave, but it's a stereotype that exists. I wouldn't consider making jokes about "the average TDC noob" or however you'd like to call him immature as long as they remain jokes. Nobody gets bashed because he or she's from TDC. Fuck, Circy is an admin here but I asked him if he wanted to be a staff writer on KM nonetheless. People will get bashed if they behave stupid, but that's something stupid people have to deal with (if they can't stand it they should consider changing themselves - easy) and that's something that happens to them because of who they are, not because of where they come from.

I think KM is a great site, but i dont see "too much" DC bashing there, i think TK is a lot worse at bashing TDC then KM will ever be.
even on the banners at TK they take the piss out of DC.

You can always use the "Submit Stuff" link to make suggestions/admin messages to the admins. And I don't believe the adminstrative job is bad there. I've rarely seen a lot of editing there.

Oh god! Don't make us have to think! what? i have to judge on my own weather to trust a review or not?!

The idea behind sites like Klik-Me, Total Klik, Planet Klik, and Klikkety Klik is to express an opinion. These opinions are not in place to be "hateful," it's a way to critique someone's work and express ideas. For instance when I was an editor at Planet Klik I found it easier to review bad games, not because i'm an asshole and like to give bad ratings, because i saw this as a way of helping the general quality of the average game increase.

Pete, if you get hurt from the idea of people telling you your games are crap than you can go "klik yourself" because after taking a look at your previews and previous game... it's gonna happen alot.

You're really letting that little Administrator tag go to your feeble little head a bit. Just because you don't like something and feel the need to bitch about it doesn't mean that everyone is automatically gonna follow in a straight line behind you. Weather you like it or not you're still very much a new person in the community. Let us big kids do our thing while you stay here and play nice with the rest of the newbies. Until you release some sort of game or show some skill of any kind your opinion means just as much as the next Daily Click member number two thousand and something.

So basically you're saying JonWog, that you don't care and therefore nobody else should care.
What if *gasp*, they DO care and they are actually offended and don't want to just 'chill out'? Brad is right, just keep your e-mouth shut if thats all you have to say.

I'm starting my own Klik site. it's going to be soooooooo cool.

I'm going to call it klik world>, and it's going to be similar to daily click. you can submit your own downloads, links, articles, and there's a shoutbox too! not to mention FORUMS! But there is a catch, if your game doesn't get reviewed in the next 7 days then it will be deleted! original isn't it? Yes.

if u want to be an admin say YEA-AH!

argh i knew i was going to regret posting this... maybe i might reply to the person making the most sense; paul:

- i don't frequent klik me very often, and when i do, it's to read the reviews and not partake in the discussions that go on there.
- ok, this place may be in a "state", but with only 3 active admins for 15000 members i would like to see how else we could manage it (bearing in mind KM has the same number of admins for 200 members)

also to brad:

when the hell did i say that everyone is going to follow behind me? i was merely expressing my opinion; and it appears not many people share it, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. it's still my opinion. furthermore, i KNOW my games are crap in comparison to some and i KNOW that i haven't been here very long, when did i ever sugggest to the contrary? and when did i say that the critiques were hateful? i actually said, if you read closely, that i think the actual content on the site is good and it's the maturity of the users that i find stupid. and the very idea that i need to prove myself to you "old guys" is absurd; i can still have an opinion before i create Eternal Daughter 2, and just because i haven't made it doesn't tarnish my opinion, it merely means that arrogant people such as yourself will fail to pay attention to it. which doesn't bother me to be perfectly frank.

summary:

i have been a bit harsh on km, i apologize for that and i admit i can't find a decent example of immature behaviour outside of any posts i've mentioned (although why every review needs to contain at least 3 explitives puzzles me somewhat). apologies to the people at klikme who may have been pissed off by my post; but i was feeling in a very bitchy mood when i wrote it and i know when i'm beaten. thanks.

Well, most of my reviews at Klik-Me don't contain swearing I joined solely for the purpose of reviewing, to improve my journalistical skills. I don't update the front page that often, I concentrate on reviews and previews. I review, therefore I am.

I think we all need to take lots of chill pills and just come to the conclusion that every community site is run in a different way. Total Klik and Klik-Me focus more on the "lets allow swearing" aspect, and as a result Clickteam has completely severed ties with both of them. They are independant of Clickteam, therefore they can do what they want and run how they want.

TDC is an affiliate of Clickteam. They know that our site is clearly the biggest and most popular site in the community, and Clickteam are eager for it to remain that way (more sales for them, lol). That's why they frequently endorse any competitions we have, and hand out prizes. We, in return, have to treat this as a family site as best we can. Because that's just the general state of play.

Regarding CGMans review, I really didn't see anything wrong with it. But maybe thats because Ive got an unpublished copy of his review (for the now defunct Planet Klik) on Zone Runner 2, and it fares very well indeed

It's from the simpsons..

Let me just say that Pete wasn't around before TDC, he didn't see the rise of TKv1, the great writing done by david blackwell in TKv2, he never knew the joy of chosing your favorite color on TFGF and never had a chance to make fun of the original Klik News (not the really crap one that came out late last year). So therefore Pete has no earthly idea of the potential of klik community sites that limit reviews to people who can actually write, ignore bad submittions, and write opinionated and straight to the point news articles free of quotations. So Pete, you see klik-me and complain that it's not the same formula as TDC and therefore it won't work. Your ignorance and stubbornness to accept change will be what keeps you from ever leaving the pages of the daily click. It will be your stubbornness that keeps you from accepting criticism and ultimately it will be your stubbornness (and maybe uglyness) that keeps you from ever getting a date.

that was fun, i'm done now.

now wait a fucking second. maybe you should read EVERYTHING i've written, brad, before you start off on another one of your rants. i never said it WON'T work as it's not the same as DC, i said i don't believe it's working currently, and i also said that the reviews etc are good, and the behaviour of some of the users is what i find hard to accept (which, i later admitted, if you READ, was probably unfounded)

it will be my stubborness that prevents me from accepting criticism? where the hell did that come from? i will readily accept any form of constructive criticism, as anyone who knows me will tell you, and not once have i even mentioned criticism in this post. christ almighty would you please READ what i've written, and when you've done that, write a reply that focuses on what i have actually written, not what your arrogant mind thinks i've written. thank you.
