Mac's visual style and space saving(only one menu on screen at a time, big space saver) = better
windows compatibility = better

Macs kick arse, when will you guys ever learn. They have the best computer in the world for a start, PowerMac G5, and they are the best for video editing and... well everything... Check them out and make the change.

that is the computer im getting soon.

True, they are the best machines in the world for video editing, and even sound editing. But they suck for everything else. If you want a gaming machine, standard office machine, or internet machine (or all three), PC's are the way to go.

[EDIT] And the reason for this is sheer compatibility. You can't argue with that.

The only good thing MAC is good for, is sound, other then that, its pretty much useless. Where Window's on the other hand has is more then just a pretty face, it is actually useful! =-O Not to mention the fact that Window's is so much easyer to get around. (Might just be because Windows was the first system I actually attapted too though.) So basicly, who needs MMF to work on MAC, MAX sux.

Rick: The reason for it is healthy competition. Anyone can make an IBM-compatible machine, but apple are assholes. Hey, who remembers when macs were almost dead? Then, a new marketing campaign targeted at people who are impressed by pretty colours, and they're back all of a sudden.

Edwin: Oh dear, the Power Mac G5. According to apple it's the best home computer in the world. According to anyone with half a brain there is no 'best' computer. The top-of-the-line G5 has dual 2.5Ghz CPUs. WOW. AMAZING. My retarded sister could install two chips. Two 3Ghz chips. And liquid cooling, if you think that's special. Apple's benchmarks put it above intel machines, but I've seen other runs that place it far below. It all depends on the software (as we all know, macs are great at office stuff, shite at everything else, whereas IBMs are good at everything). If I wanted the 'best computer in the world,' I'd build it myself. And it sure as fuck wouldn't be a mac.

Well it looks like we wont be seeing Edwin anymore. I despise macs, I have to use them every day at the media class, the only thing good about them is the looks. Video editing is NOT any faster on the macs. Why the fuck would you spend $2199 on a 1.8ghz processor? You cant honestly tell me that your going to spend the same amount on a computer with 1.8 ghz less than a PC? Not to mention that you get a thousand less options in software and hardware. It just defies all common sense, but I don't care, because the price you pay for buying a mac is owning one.

Told you so, Pete!

Despite my girlfriend trying to teach me how to use hers, I can't get used to Macs at all. The biggest problem I have is that Ctrl-C is not "copy" but instead "delete everything I've selected and make it unrecoverable" - which is something that I discovered to my cost!

Apparently the Mac uses its processor more efficiently, though, so just the clock speed of the processor alone isn't really a good comparison. At least, so I've been told.

Right, mac architecture is quite different, and mac CPUs have pretty huge FSBs AFAIK. Nowhere near big enough to be worth an extra 4200 shiny coins though.

Mac processors also have many more transistors than Intel chips, so things like floating point calculation is several times faster. Just look at the performance of SETI on Mac and PC with the same speed processor.

I once saw a TV show where they actually compared equivelent powered Macs and PCs in different ways, and the whole 'Macs are better for video editing and Photoshop' was proved to be bollocks, in fact the Mac took 30 seconds to apply a Photoshop filter that the PC took 5 seconds to do. The only field the Mac won in was setup time.

I used to use Macs at college and grew to hate them with a massive passion. Sure they look nice, but that's all they're good at. What's the point in owning a computer what a large percentage of software doesn't run on, just for looks?

They replaced all the Linux machines in our computer science lab with Macs. They look like lamps. And someone on the first day - presumably an ex-subhonours student - had scrawled on the board "Ha ha! You have to use Macs!"

actually, macs were the first PCs to use a GUI like the ones we're used to today. they nicked some of their ideas for it from Xerox.

My workplace appartently used to have Macs a few months before I started there, thank fuck they replaced them all with PCs. We still use Quark Express though, which is designed for Macs, and hence, it's rubbish, with its unconventional keyboard shortcuts and stuff.

NOOOOOOOOO! Macs don't crash half as much as PCs. Everyone in the professional world uses Macs, well most anyway in the entertainment industry. And that's all I'm interested in so I guess it's ME vs TDC.

Na PCs are okay i've been using them my whole life and still am, it's just I like making movies using Final Cut Pro and that's why I need a Mac, it's the best program for movie making.

That might've been true ten years ago but I doubt very much it's the case today. I'd be interested to see a survey proving things either way.

As for macs not crashing often, that's nonsense. I'm the 'unofficial' computer dude in my college (the official one is a retard), and I get called out to as many crashed macs as I do real computers.

Adobe premiere and after effects is what the big boys use, which runs faster on a PC costing the same as a Mac.

Hahaha, my friend just got a $10 million dollar grant from the state of hawaii to develop a new educational database system for the schools here. When I went to his lab I was flabberghasted, it was filled with Macs!

I was fucking freaking out at that point, but then he turned on one and up came windows XP, opened the case and inside was pentium chips. He just had all the computers modded to look like apples from the outside. That, was cool, you get the functionality of PCs and the sexiness of macs.

i fuckin love mac, they are pretty beautiful machines. im on a brand new eMac right now and yea DC looks utter poo on it. so does my site so NOW im going to redesign it

apple says it best on thier old adverts; accountants use beige boxes, creative people use macs in a perfect world, if they could run windows apps.

but im bored with MMF and back in love with Photoshop and Premier (which is also on Mac btw)so im switching to an iBook sometime soon. i dont care if its anymore powerful. sure clock speeds show that the PC should be more powerful but its so useless with resources that a mouse on a wheel is faster than most windows based processors

and i have NEVER seen a mac crash before. ever

On the other side, I haven't heard a good pro-Windows argument other than "everything works on it" or "everyone uses it". Most people just use Windows because it's the only one they know and don't want to try anything else, not because it's better.

The Pro-Mac arguments given may be more detailed in their reasons, but they are founded on un-truths, such as being better for video/photo editing and the fact they don't crash very often. When I used em at college, I was sick of seeing that fucking bomb icon.

the bomb icon was scrapped after OS8 im sure, OS9+ were the uncrashable ones

my plan is when my laptop gets old or dies then im just gonna get myself one of those new iMacs, with the G5.

something i discovered today; if you have pictures in your picture folder and open up iMovie the pictures appear in the correct window on iMovie, same goes for music. how bloody simple is that, but its so damn useful. needless to say the next windows system will probably 'borrow' some of these features.

one last thing im gonna say before monday's TV addiction begins is one of my lecturers said that almost all the media places he's worked in or seen (ie anywhere from game design to magazine editing) all use Macs. this is UK only mind you. apparently... well not even apparently... the majority of the creative digital industry use macs.

Windows/PC do have the Windows Media Edition which is so awesome. and Windows for Pocket PC which is kinda cool, way better than anything else in the handheld market. and of course nobody can forget Internet Explorer the best web browser out there good thing about windows is that it explorer links with IE so smooth and effortlessly.

Shall I start the 'IE vs everything else' debate by saying Firefox is a million times better than IE. I haven't used any other browser, though, except AOL but that doesn't count cos it's even worse than IE.

I'll cover both:

IE vs Everything Else:

It's not been upgraded properly for years, so its support for anything vaguely new (e.g. PNG/MNG) is non-existent. I think the Mac version is several times better, strangely enough.

Consoles:

OMG yuo know teh dreamcast roxxored every things.. i am cahtting on IRC with my dreamcast!! how many ocnsoles can yuo do that with? sertinly not an xbox, teh contrallar is too big and teh electrecity takes 5 hours to traval round teh controller lol

Edwin, we have already proved that the price of the shit you buy has nothing to do with how good it is. You can get a PC equal to a Mac for half the cost. You can get a superior editor (Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5) for less than half the price of Final cut.

Even your Mac friends use premiere:
<a title="Open new window" onclick="OpenWindow('/products/premiere/premiere_qt2.html',400,431,'scrollbars=no,menubar=no,toolbar=no,location=no,status=no,resizable=no','highlights_highres'); return false" onkeypress="OpenWindow('/products/premiere/premiere_qt2.html',400,431,'scrollbars=no,menubar=no,toolbar=no,location=no,status=no,resizable=no','highlights_highres'); return false" href="premiere_qt2.html">Premiere</a>
(opens in new window)

Jay: There is NO game manufacturers working on Macs, that's an oxymoron already, you guys have to wait a few years to get our old games, maybe by then the Macs will be powerful enough to run them.

Now, I use Macs at school, they are enjoyable, nice looking, but there is nothing they do that isn’t done better by the PC, even if we stole it from Macs, we do it better. I guess I shouldn't care what computer you use, but I hate seeing people waste their money on crap.

As for browsers, firefox is the way to go.

Shen: Nobody is arguing that PCs are better than macs because that's not the basis of the argument (although I'm sure I could make a good case for it). The point is that macs aren't better than PCs, and given that, you're best off using something that's compatible with everything else. Also macs suck,

What if you don't need to be compatible with everything else, and just need the usual suite of applications (Browser, Office suite, calendar/organiser apps) that the Mac provides?

If you just need an office machine, use whatever you like. If you're using it for work than chances are the employer is going to buy th emachine anyway.

The point is that edwin claimed macs are better. Our point is that they aren't. As far as hardware goes, because anyone can make IBM-compatible parts the competition means you wind up with a wider range of components, including some far better than those produced by Apple (and naturally, quite a few that are worse, but if you're after a 'better' machine you're going to choose the best parts).

people are being picky about Macs while not seeing how Windows machines potentially suck more
What the fuck are you talking about? We're not comparing Mac OS to Windows, we're comparing Macs ro PCs. You can put any OS you like on PC.

im half-sure that Nintendo work on Macs, and Halo was originally designed for Mac i believe.... before mr. microsoft stuck his oar in
and about hardware, every little crap shop makes and sells PC parts. because apple only make Macs and co they are of a very high quality. ive been through countless cheap TFT monitors just to find dead pixel heaven, even my ex-top of the line laptop has dead pixels. i have yet to see a mac with scratches or low-quality hardware built into them. you buy a mac, everything works perfectly with it.
so IE sucks because its so weak but Windows dosnt? although Windows is crap too? if windows is crap why not move to Linux?

i cant believe this arguing thing actually works... TOASTERS ARE BETTER THAN MICROWAVES! DOGS ARE BETTER THAN CATS!

"and Halo was originally designed for Mac i believe"
Kind of way off there. Halo was intended to be a MMO(Massive Multi Online) FPS much like planetside, developed by Bungie for the PC, that was then going to be ported over to the Mac, but those plans were killed when M$ bought Bungie. Then they turned it into what it is today, your everyday average FPS with pretty graphics, and a friggin' huge hype machine. Greatest game ever my ass.

my modded Xbox is possibly the most used console i have, ive only got 5 games for it i just spend my time on emulators. damn DAMN fine way of playing too, IMO. and hell yea Xbox are low-spec PC's. Celeron/P3 hybrid running at 700mhz? ive got a Pentium 3 500mhz that barely runs Calculator. just that unlike PC's consoles stick with a set hardware setup for a number of years so every inch of the CPU/graphics are used eventually.

and i am SURE i heard that Halo was originally a Mac game in an Xbox mag sometime ago. there is usually a little bit of truth in every rumor, they say.

oh yea Macs can run MMF; Virtual PC.

sorry if i scared you JP.

watched a mac video today which was really interesting. didjaknow the Dual G5 powermac HAS to be liquid cooled, WITH 9 fans too? and the new 30" monitor (the largest monitor ever) that apple make needs twin DVI from a special graphics card because the resolution is so high? and that OSX is lightyears ahead of Windows XP, and thier new OS out in early 2005 already has more features than longhorn with simple fundamental new features that the longhorn team completely overlooked (as said by bill gates himself). the apple vid explains all. and its needless to say that apple own 50% of the MP3 player market with the 'pod...

dont get me wrong there arnt as much applications on mac as there are windows, but if anyone has had the pleasure of using the beta OSX Tiger youd probably never look at windows again. Core Image and Core Video rendering effects in realtime providing games designers with a much easier task of putting incredible effects in games with no problems at all. and that the new H264 video codec (the best video compression codec ever) is built into iTunes and Quicktime for Tiger only... not to forget spotlight which is the best search engine for your computer... ever. and the other billion things that easily put windows in its place.

funny. a year ago id spit on a G4

macs are crap. we have to use them so much in my multimedia course, thank god we are replacing ANOTHER room of macs with new PC's, macs are dieing when college's start replacing them with pcs in a MULTIMEDIA lab.

macs suck cause nothing runs on them and it has a backwards bullshit interface.

os9 is complete bullshit, osx is useable, but XP DOMINATES IT WORD

why compare xbox specs to a computer, xbox games run 10 x better than a pc with a processor 5 times better. xbox is made for games unlike computers. thats all.

Apple like overcharging. Look at iPods for christssake, £300 for a glorified hard drive.

At a guess it's because apple likes to hand out discounts, expecially for schools and the like. Their marketing plan is to fuck up kids before they know any better.

even though i like macs i wouldnt go near one using anything less than OSX, anything made before 2002. even the iMac G3's are horrible.

as for a cheap PC. hell no. mate of mine built his own PC using cheapo components, think it totalled up to £500 and it just crashes too often. had to replace the memory a few times, processor blew too.

Mac's suck and cheepo pc's suck, but why would a pc that has cheepo components be bad?

PCs with cheap components are bad. I couldn't afford one of those spangly Opterons, so I stuck some cardboard in the socket instead. It didn't work. Therefore, cheap components make your PC bad.

You're going to pay that much for a peice of shit? 2.5GHZ, thats piss, I just got a 3.4GHZ P4 2GBram, 500GB harddrive, a fucking monster machine, for $1,200, but most people arn't as lucky as me, because normally this machine costs $2,500. And unfortunatly for you all the good P2P programs don't work with macs and you have to actually buy software. Too bad all the other free programs online are for Windows, such as google's new "Keyhole" and Nasa's "World Wind", which fucking kick ass.

Lol for a computer guy you're not that smart with hardware are you JP?
look at laptops now. i paid £1000 on the dot for my Pentium 4 3.06ghz HT machine just 4-5 months ago, now you can get that for £799 whilst a Pentium M 1ghz will set you back a cool £1500 AND run faster. why? because processor speeds mean shit all. dont get me started on how Xeon get away with dual 1Ghz CPUs and outperform Pentium 4 3ghz machines.

my uni. we have a G5 with dual 1.5Ghz G5 processors, 4Gb Ram. and a Pentium 4 at 3Ghz, 4Gb ram again. i had a video project and it came down to rendering it, i had it on the Mac; rendering took an hour. because i had 3 hours to kill i threw it on the P4 machine and it took 1hr 30mins.

JP, you did notice it's DUAL 2.5 ghz secondly, I got my 2.8 ghz, 768mb RAM, 80 gig HDD, and CD RW & DVD RW drive for ~$600, that's a much better deal than that one you bought.

"And unfortunatly for you all the good P2P programs don't work with macs" are you saying you use p2p programs? <g>

ok, so you get around it by using two lesser processors, but I can still hook up two of my new gateways, which would still cost less, and beat you down! I guess you don't know where to look for deals if you paid $1,860 for a 3.06, i got a 3.4 for $1,200, or £645. You can get dual processors with anything, macs aren't special. But you are right, processors aren't everything, which is why you need a kickass GPU, like the GeForce 6600, which is ofcourse in my machine. Then take my RAID 0 dual mirror drives, and I'm sitting on top of the world.

And Amnesiasoft, youre right i missed the dual part, but, well look above... And yes, I use p2p programs, to get music, software, and movies.

ive still to see how good the latest version of Virtual PC run, theres an XP home/pro edition coming out soon which would run MMF probably better than native windows systems.

googles Keyhole app is pretty much a clone of macs Spotlight search engine anyways. which is built straight into the OS

as for P2P, BitTorrent is readily available for Linux, Windows and Mac. do dah!

JP, I know I already said this, but, did you also notice that 8 GB of Ram is ~$4500 and it's 2 30" Flat panel monitors @ $3300 each. That's almost the whole price right there Then there is shake @ $3000, Production Suite @ $1,300, Logic Pro 7 @ $1,000, Adobe CD @ $1,300, If I got nothing else with it and ditched the RAM, that would be only $4,500, that's how they get ya, with all the fancy add ons

why are yous still arguing?!?! macs may be more stable when rendering video then a pc but thats about all mac has left over pc, pc is pretty much just as good / better IMO when working with multimedia.

mac has shit mouses, shit keyboards, over priced hardware, no software support... the list goes on. Windows XP is more stable than OSX in my experiences. linux sucks too.

Ok fine, take into account a 3 gb upgrade of ram, $1603 for my 1,200 pc, 1 lcd projector for $999, and a p2p program for all the rest. still $3,802 which is less than your fucking base price without monitors, 8gb ram, and programs can you fucking add? what the fuck are you going to do without a monitor? oh yeah, and to cease your bitching about dual processors, lets add another p4 3.4 for $309, which brings the grand sum up to $4,111. All the fancy add ons for $389 less than your bare bones box of shit. Now, quit with your stupid "i already said this" and learn some basic math.

As for comparing keyhole to spotlight, i am sure you are mistaken, because mac does not have a built in function to view landsat images of the earth, and map them onto a 3d plane so you can find your house from space. And bit torrent sucks donkey balls, so I dont mind if you have that.

I did not once use the word processor in there.

secondly, who said that $4,500 was the base price, that's still with the internal add-ons, the real base price is $2,870, maybe you should learn some math, because last time I checked, $2,870 was less than $3,802

and as for keyhole, who cares, that is a stupid program, if you were to use a p2p network for all your software, what makes you think someone would pay for that useless program? And if you think constantly posting these easily countered arguments will annoy me into submission, might I remind you billbobjoe198 and nuklear are my brothers?

Jesus so stupidity runs rampant through the family? I assume you're talking about the Power Mac g4, which is the only one I found at $2870. The best G5 is $3,000 and still only has dual 2.5's, and only 512mb of ram! what the fuck are you going to do with 512!? And it's SDRAM, why they havent switched to DDR is a mistery.

Then: "JP, you did notice it's DUAL 2.5 ghz"
Now: "I did not once use the word processor in there. "

What the fuck did you think you were talking about? How much shit is in there? Dual 2.5 refers to processors.

Now, lets look at my post and start subtracting:
- ram, -$1603, and I still have the GB that came with it
-the $999 projector

For a dual 3.4 P4 with a gig of ram, 500gb RAID 0 dual mirrordrives, cdrw dvd/rw usb 2.0 firewire, media card slots, it costs $1509, which is $1361 less than your machine, has a DVD burner, has 420GB more space, and has a better graphics card. Your machine only has dual 1 GHZ (the $2,870) compared to the dual 3.4's. Now if you want to compare it to the latest G5, they still only have 2.5 and 512mg ram...

jesus I cant wait to see what stupid reasoning you come up with next.

in my experience, 2 years of college and a bit of uni consisting of lots of video and image work with hints of audio stuff, where we have top of the line PC's and macs ive found macs to be a lot more reliable and seecure. but ive said this for too long now already. but obviously im wrong because there can be nothing other than PCs

EDIT: um wow everything just changed, one of my lectures just brought in a 30" cinema display (made by Apple) and ive just sampled GarageBand and Logic. jesus... anyone wana buy my laptop?

Quit tooting your own horn, you obviously are not an expert in computing, but a diehard mac idiot. Your two years don't count for shit, could your argument be any more vague? You know why you keep repeating yourself? Because it's bullshit and you have to trick yourself into beleiving it. the 30" displays work for PC's, and Windows has a ton of music production apps, instead of just two. Macs are not more reliable, not more secure, but they do run slower, and they do cost more. can you douches pull your heads out of your asses long enough to give me a real argument? I don't think so, because when it comes to the PC/Mac debate, PC's have total dominance.

the apple monitors (specifically the 30" one) have some ADC connector which requires a graphics card manufactured only for mac because the resolution is so high it needs some uber-power card. come to think of it the 30" model needs 2.

hey im repeating because everyone else is. spot the cycle?

Mac sucks *says the fool
actually they have thier place *says the level headed person
repeat and rinse.

dont get me wrong i like PC's too. they have thier place, be they ugly cheap feeling things...i still use them for FTP, MMF, anything online usually. and they do make good servers for home networks. but im not gonna sit down and listen to closed minded idiots who rave about how good one thing is and instantly dismissing anything else that fares to stand next to it and have the balls to be sucessful in a monopoly like industry.

heh and i know my fair share of computer crap, been using one since Junior 2 (whats that? 8 i think? makes it 11 years ive been using the beige box). i build them, i help out in a computer shop, who gave me a free years training at Xenon (where pros go). i know my stuff matey so dont give me bullshit about not being an expert. i may not be able to build a computer from sand but i can assemble with my eyes shut and do what needs to be done to work in a small computer shop that cater to a number of major british airports thank you

now i rest

Closed minded? You’re part of the closed mined 2% group of retards stuck on the flaming ship. And I said stop bitching about repeating stuff, its not like you say anything worth anyone’s time. I don’t give a fuck if you repeat your bullshit, I read it, and countered it. Once I shoot down your argument doesn't mean for you to repeat yourself. Just because you buy shitty beige PCs is no reason to call them ugly. I have already shown that PC's are stronger per dollar spent, end of story, you just can’t weasel out of facts. And if assembling computers makes you an expert, then I have been raising geniuses at the kindergarten I volunteer at. These 6 year olds can install ram and set up the BIOS, so I'm not impressed if you can.

I hope you have a long rest, it must have been a strain on your brain to type so many hard words.

nah im loving this too much

"you just can’t weasel out of facts"

speaking about facts, and new machines (new XP/2000 packs and OS 10.4) i heard, and seen a few times that Windows based PC servers DO crash more. hell if the company who installed the networks at Manchester Airport and Liverpools John Lennon Airport chose apple servers over PCs for the bohemoth systems... well dosnt that say anything in terms of stability? reliability? but i suppose they're wrong too arnt they?

"And if assembling computers makes you an expert"

no, but a year at Xenon does

look, it wasnt long ago that you said passive smoking isnt that bad for you just relax ok?

I'm totally with JP on this one, probably because I use my pc as a gaming machine, and when it comes to games macs can't do jack all. The latest pc titles are graphically so far ahead of everything else in the industry at the moment. There much hope for gaming with a mac because it lacks direct x.

I recently build my pc (a 3200+ amd64/1 gb 400mhz ram/gforce 6800) for just under 700 quid- I know some really expensive macs have loads of power and everyhting (minus the good gfx card) but its of absolutely no use to me if you can't play anything on it!

I'm sure there's a 64-bit version of Windows XP. It gets referred to on MSDN (usually with the phrase 'OMG USES TEH CODE WHICH IS SAFED FOR ALL STUFFS AND TAKES HUNDRED OF CODE TO IMPLAMANT' somewhere in it).

"Longhorn" is the codename for the next windows version. Amnesia couldn't have longhorn, unless he has the dev version, because it is not out yet.

Included in longhorn is the exciting new WinFS file system.

Palladium security technology that Microsoft is developing with Intel and AMD.

Longhorn will use 3D video hardware to render special effects that will make the screen more photorealistic and deep.

A new user interface, or "user experience," is code-named "Aero" and is based on a new .NET-based graphics API called "Avalon," which replaces earlier graphics APIs such as GDI and GDI+, the latter of which debuted in Windows XP.

Longhorn will debute in 2006. Blackcomb will be released in 2011.

always thought .net was about MSN, for signing in and stuff?

i know i shouldn't... Tiger already has 3D enhanced graphics purely for the desktop and moving around etc. with the help of 2 technology bits called Core Image and Video. 2 years before windows are using it. although it dosnt really do anything except look good, hell thats purely what all 3D graphics do.

.NET is a cross-platform software delivery sort of thing. Kind of a cross between Steem and Java. Kind of. It's made up of a lot of different stuff, it's just the banner for a bunch of initiatives. I think.

I do have longhorn. Though there is no way to actually prove it as there are so many apps that can make changes like that, the best way I can prove it is the taskbar has all the windows centered, which isn't great proof.

And JP, longhorn is actually not shipping with WinFS file system. But they are planning to use DX 9 for rendering windows to allow for faster display updating because then it only has to update parts of the display that have changed.

The dev trial version ends after a certain period of time, and yes Longhorn will be shipped with WinFS, as an add on to NTFS. To prove that you have it, take a screen cap of the new zoom tool in MSPaint.

Also, if you have a subscription to MSDN, you can download longhorn yourself.

Yes 4015 has it, where the hell do you think I saw it. And subscription to MSDN costs big $$$, I had the trial version on my partition, but theres no point because the GUI isn't done, it's still buggy, and everything is designed for XP. Also WinFS isnt fully functional and thats the main upgrade. My point being that switching to Longhorn before it is done is retarded and I don't beleive that you even have it.

Both of you are fucking stupid, of course the beta isn't going to work, it's this ass backward logic that makes you both look like fucking morons. Why do you think 99% of the world uses Windows? Why do you think Bill Gates is the richest man in the world? People don't buy Windows because it sucks.

Installing Fedora is even stupider than using OS X. You wouldn't even know what to do with fedora. You can barely make klik games. Good luck with ruining your comp with all this unfinished bullshit your putting on it. For the life of me I can't figure out why someone wouldnt just use a stable OS that works, and has the highest compatability with programs.

fucking morons.

windows is stable ? just put it in the hand of a fuckong moron that download every apps he found, your "stable" system won't be stable any longer, plus nobody can explore in the deepiest windows code and see what's wrong, and the errors messages just tell NOTHING

take any beta distribution, it's more stable than windows itself, why ? because windows is an unstable system but tweaking it can make it stable, and linux is just the opposite, a stable system that people can make it unstable

and there is lots of thing you can do with fedora, lots of thing just with the base distribution, there is already a web broswer, an HTML editor, a proffesionnal picture editor, lots of players and games, an office-like program, an IRC/MSN/AIM/YAHOO client, a cd burning app, a screen capturer

the thing which is the most popular had never been and will never be the best, that why nearly every great artist ended their life with nothing to eat, that why we are using PC instead of mac or an atari, that why we used VHS instead of others, and that why you are using windows instead of OS/2 to listen to your downloaded tunes of britney spears

microsoft used aggressive marketing to make his OS popular, like preventing netscape from being installed by manufacturer, that why they included {Double|Driver} Space to prevent stacker from existing anymore, that why they breaked Synet to get the "internet explorer" trademark, and bought Spyglass webbrowser to turn it into internet explorer which is now the most used insecure browser of the world

I think batchman just took the prize for stupidest person on TDC. GOD YOU'RE SO FUCKING STUPID! Of course it's going to be unstable IF YOU PUT UNSTABLE APPS IN IT YOU STUPID TWAT.

NO beta programs will be more stable, you are fucking stupid and backwards. Windows comes stable, and if a fucking moron like yourself and amnesia get their jizz covered hands on every single piece of shit out there, of course you are going to fuck it up.

You can fuck up any OS, except that NO OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS HAVE THE WIDE AVAILIBILITY OF PROGRAMS. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, BAD IF YOU ARE STUPID, but good if you know what you are doing.

All the things you mentioned for fedora is PISS compared to windows, are you kidding me? YOU HAVE SHITTY GAMES, want to play BF 1942, whoops can't! I guess you'll have to settle on 3D Poker, because you don't have any real friends to play poker with.

"the thing which is the most popular had(SIC) never been and will never be the best"

You are the biggest idiot of all time; did you realize that every great artist got great AFTER they died? And why the fuck are you talking about artists you shit faced hobo, the analogy doesn't hold with operating systems. VHS was the best at the time, and we all still have them, but DVD's have already caught up. And your failed attempt at insulting me with Britney spears is pitiful, what a childish little bastard, one's taste in music, race, sexual orientation, or religion has nothing to do with how stupid YOU are.

"microsoft used aggressive marketing to make his(SIC) OS popular(SIC)"
NO SHIT! WHOOPDE-FUCKING-DO! IT’S CALLED CAPITOLISM, WELCOME TO AMERICA! If you had any basic business you'd know about supply and demand. Without demand for a product, it simply goes away, WHICH IS WHY IE HAS LOST 10% OF THE BROWSER SHARE TO FIREFOX!

Once again it comes down to the user; STUPID people like yourself will keep bitching about it, whereas the smart people switch to Firefox.

Now for amnesia's turn> So what are you going to have on there, XP on one partition and Fedora on the other? WHEN THE FUCK WOULD YOU EVER NEED TO USE FEDORA IF YOU HAD XP? Never, because XP does everything. And stop winking at me.

Chris, the keywords in there are "computer illiterate."

You can't blame Microsoft for you'r own stupidity.

Amnesia: "No! We have lots and lots of competitors. The new version - it's not there to fix bugs. That's not the reason we come up with a new version."

This article is taken out of context and has been edited. What he is saying is that no one will buy new versions soley on bug fixes, which is why they have automatic update, to fix found bugs for free, and Error Reporting.

error reporting in Windows XP has nevered worked for me. It always messes up. And, I don't like windows altering things I changed, I turned off Automatic Updates, then one day it decided to turn them on to the highest level with automatic install, so it downloads SP2 and then installs it. After it reboots, it downloads even mor ecrap I don't want and gives me the message "Updates have been installed and your computer will shut down in 5 minutes [whether you like it or not]"

"Once again it comes down to the user; STUPID people like yourself will keep bitching about it, whereas the smart people switch to Firefox."

Windows is buggy, full of problems and people bitch about it a lot. so smart people move away.

it seems like Longhorn is going to be pretty much incompatable with the majority of apps, i mean XP was bad enough. I think its a very damn stupid thing to do on microsofts behalf. There have been 3 major [mainsteam] OS switches over the past decade or so; DOS>Win, Win>XP, OS9>OSX.
each time previous applications will fail to work, maybe not on a huge scale but it happens. and now just 5 years on its happening again. at least Mac were nice enough to bundle an OS9 emulator which runs ALL Mac applications before X was released, ie. anything from 1989. note the ANY part of that. and at G4/5 speeds.

what did microsoft do? add an 'OS compatability' tickbox which is as useless as a fart in a windmachine.

I've only had one compatibility problem ever with XP/Longhorn. Myst 3 wouldn't run on it, well, I actually haven't tried it on Longhorn yet The only other thing causing problems is because Longhorn tells programs it's Longhorn and not XP, so some programs say it' not compatible, but it more likely than not is, they just won't let you run it

Error reporting is one of the most basic things ever; I can't imagine how you could fuck it up. And YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON, AUTOMATIC UPDATES IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES IN WINDOWS! YOU CAN’T BITCH ABOUT STUFF NOT WORKING IF YOU DON'T INSTALL THOSE YOU STUPID SHIT! AND IT GIVES YOU THE OPTION OF RESTARTING NOW OR LATER. THE ERROR REPORTING WON’T WORK IF YOU ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, WHICH IS THE ONLY REASON IT WOULDN’T WORK, BESIDES YOUR STUPIDITY.

Jay, your brain must be full of shit, your statement has no facts to back it up and I am going to disregard it as idiotic blather from a stupid wank.

Incompatible my ass, they have always been backwards compatible, XP worked with pretty much everything, you are fucking stupid. XP and Longhorn come with a DOS program. That’s why all my original DOS games, 95 games, 98 games work on XP. HOW CAN YOU BE SO FUCKING STUPID?! I CANT IMAGINE HOW ANYONE CAN HAVE SUCH A DISFUNCTIONAL BRAIN! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK THE CHECKBOX DID, YOU THINK THEY ADDED IT IN JUST FOR LOOKS?

Firefox - Mozilla, basically same thing, same company.

XP isn’t the only factor in Myst 3 not working; you probably have a shitty computer that was made shittier by your failure to take care of it. You should check the fucking specs on the box.

My computer is better than the specs on the box, the only thing is, it doesn't say XP, and my really old computer that is no where NEAR matching the Myst 3 specs could run it and it had Win 95, and I tested it on a fresh install of XP too. As for the error reporting, I'm always connected to the internet, it just fails to connect and submit properly. And automatic updates have never done anything GOOD for my computer, in fact, when I installed one of the updates, it ruined my CD and DVD drivers, and made the driver update software not work. not to mention Norton Anti-virus utterly destroys my internet access when it is installed. JP, please make sure you know everything about my computer before saying it's my computer's fault something doesn't work. In fact, of the 9 times I've had to install windows XP, it was my fault one time, I knew I should've used the other boot screen changing method

The only constant seemst to be you, and since your level of intelligence seems to be sub par, it is fair to say that you are the problem and not XP. No one else has problems with error reporting, no one else has problems with Norton, your setting must have been off, which is up to YOU to fix. Do you think auto updates are released just for the hell of it? You too fucking stupid to be able to own a PC. I'd rather have a mandatory IQ test before people are allowed to buy a comp. Your parents should take away your comp because you just seem to fuck everything up.

nah, you just don't know my deep-rooted hatred for Microsoft and Nintendo And the time I managed to get it stable (after more tweaks than worth XP) the power died to my computer ruining the apps that were open at the time so Photoshop and many other things just died then I switched to longhorn

Right right, and your hatred for Microsoft is a reason for blaming windows with things that cannot be attributed to it. Power outages will not mess up your programs, it’s a fact. That’s just not the way computers store things. Sure you will lose the temporary data in your cache, but your hard drive will be untouched. I’m not sure how much of the stuff you are writing is exaggerated or complete bullshit. I mean, come on, installing XP nine times is just not necessary, and obviously something else is wrong. Normal people would have tried something else. Every XP CD is an exact copy, there is no way for them to give you a bad version, if it was Microsoft's fault, everyone would be having problems. Your irrational hate for Microsoft is no reason to attribute every single problem you have to its software.

Switching to longhorn is an even stupider move. You do realize that Longhorn is an unfinished MICROSOFT operating system? It is far from being done and does not yet have the full functionality that XP does.

JP, you must never have been to the REAL computer setup screen, you know, the one where you press F2 at the boot screen? There's a setting there for the hard drive that makes it either faster or quiter (can't remember which) but also increases the risk of damaging files in the event of a power outage. 4 of the 9 times I had to re-install XP, the computer wouldn't even get past the boot screen without crashing. another 4 of the 9 times came from when I would install norton antivirus and the ability to connect to the internet was damaged for absolutely no reason, I tried everything to fix it, I even called tech support (what was I thinking doing that?) until I got sick of them messing around with more settings on my computer, so I re-installed windows, and each time Norton got installed, BAM, internet's dead in the same way again. The most recent time is said power failure.

Of course I have been in BIOS, and it's nothing for little kids to be messing with. Norton is the best anti-virus out there; you probably forgot to turn off the firewall or something stupid. And what you are referring to is a RAID 1 or 0, striping or backup, yes yes I know all this shit, you don't even know the names and you are trying to belittle me with your infinitesimal amount of knowledge.

ah yes, BIOS, that's the name, I'm quite bad with names, I get my friends mixed up all the time . Anyway, I did disable norton's firewall, still didn't work. I did a virus scan, and it wouldn't detect the virus that had ended up infecting 20% of my files, I could've sworn I'd gotten rid of it :/ it takes way too much time to delete file.vbs in every zip file on a computer .

what ? a beta cannot work ? man you only knows fucking commercial programs from man who don't known how to code, i have debian Sid , what's Sid ? sid mean Unstable, YES ! unstable, but by system NEVER crashed, X sometimes crash with some fucking programs which aren't part of the distribution, but any {x,g,k}dm recover it

skype has been a beta, i had .. win 98 ! it was not officialy supported by skype, but it NEVER crashed ONE time, it disconnected some time, but the problem also occured to my 2k/XP friends

THAT what a REAL beta stand for : asking user to test their program to report bugs they didn't discover themselves, that not a fucking program which crash all the time with known bugs that never get corrected

you don't know linux, don't talk about things you don't know

You, my friend are a fucking moron, write in English next time and maybe I'll read it.

First of all Sid does not mean unstable, Sid is the codename for the unstable version, if your going to be an idiot fanatic, get your fucking semantics right. Now, sid will never get released in the final package, and you will have to agree that when it does get out of beta it will have more functionality and capability, am I correct? Yes!

Now, Skype the internet phone, yes, again beta, and surprise surprise, it didn’t crash! No SHIT! WHEN DID I FUCKING SAY THAT BETA MEANS: "[a] program which crash(SIC) all the time with known bugs that never get corrected"

NEVER YOU FUCKING IDIOT! Beta tests are the second series of tests, usually done with a wide internet audience, which tries to find bugs before it is released.

Now, shut the fuck up, I have three Linux computers I'm using for servers. YOU are a fucking kid who can't spell for shit, now go suck some dick faggot.

um lets see about how good XP runs older apps. all games tested on both SP1 and 2 for XP Home and Pro.

Quake 1, official game purchased in 98 from a small game shop in scotland. Downloaded GLQuake and a bunch of other add-ons/updates. Works in <ME... runs in XP Service Pack 1 and 2? nope... incidently WorldCraft works (have to play QuakeX on my xbox )

Unreal 1. nope.

Sim City 3000, official game again. purchased in Trafford Centre, 2000. again works fine in <ME. XP service Pack 1 and 2? nope (stuck with SC4, the crappest game in existance)

Duke Nukem 3D? nope

Doom 1 & 2? nope (but works fine with Doom Legacy and jDoom)

Rollercoster Tycoon 1? JUST about. cannot load games from ingame.

anything with DOS run? nope. because XP isnt launched from DOS. which is why theres a huge lack of compatability and which is also what makes it a major OS update. you cannot leave windows XP and go into DOS because its not there.
which is why i have to dual boot ME and XP.

no facts? this is entirely based on experience and business lectures

ps. notice the mac people are just relaxed and calm whilst others go off on a mad swearing spree? temper temper

"You, my friend are a fucking moron, write in English next time and maybe I'll read it."

I'm not English, Am I being Discriminated against ?

I know Sid is a codename, but judging what you said, you weren't supposed to know Linux, You don't know Linux, you want windows just to install some shitty popular software program like NAV

"WHEN DID I FUCKING SAY THAT BETA MEANS: "[a] program which crash(SIC) all the time with known bugs that never get corrected""

there : "Both of you are fucking stupid, of course the beta isn't going to work, it's this ass backward logic that makes you both look like fucking morons."

and Windows 9x itself broke a lots of DOS program, every DOS Applications that want to get into protected mode can't, windows 9x understand SOME schemes but not all of them, sometimes MS-DOS programs detect windows presence and act differently, Win XP broke nearly every win3.1 Applications, they STILL exists, found one in a CD two years ago with my TI calc, with no Win XP equivalent

this thread is dead. you guys are going nowhere except down the path of personal insults (that's mainly YOU JP) which is futile, immature and frankly a waste of everyone's time. feel free to have arguments by all means, as long as stuff like: "You, my friend are a fucking moron, write in English next time and maybe I'll read it." doesn't appear in future.
