Description:

From half of year I'm working over engine on which I want to create full-length game with Dizzy in main role (Dizzy is a legendary hero from game series from Spectrum and next PC or NES) Dizzy YolkFolk Adventures is first (extremely short) game created on this engine. It is created to present it capabilities.

Plot

At the edge of calm village Yolkfolk, three of friend: Daisy, Dora and Poggie were playing in ball. Sudennly Poggie hit to strong and ball landed on cloudlet, and Poggie flee at tree. Daisy and Dora must call for help Dizzy. Only he can take the ball!

Controls

Left/Right arrows - Move left/right
Up arrow - Jump
Space bar - Action take/put items, enter doors, start talking, select language, start game
Esc - Exit game

Like in original game is extremely hard, need a monkey dexterity and lot of logical thinking. Game have got also some secret areas and with correct using of items in them allows to enter a new area, and... You will check that in game

If you could comment all noticed bugs etc. or about gameplay, but I think that I catch all bugs, so with them shouldn't be any problems

Well since it's to test your new engine i'll say that it's very solid so far. Good work!
I think dizzy walks too slow which can become annoying if you ever have to do a lot of walking. And i couldn't work out how to pick up coins.

i loved the graphics and music.

(Also you wrote Spectrum, Pc and Nes but forgot the Amstrad cpc and other formats he starred on)

Ummh, seems great, but I sure didn't get that experience when I played it...
Seems like you have put lot of work on good graphics, code and sound, but the gameplay isn't great.

I don't see what I'm supposed to do, and I die because I miss a jump with one pixle

And then I have to start from the beginning!
And why can't I lower the volume in-game?

Game wasn't created by me but by Marcin 'Kurak' Jakubczak (he is creator of graphics and engine) I'm only one of co-authors and on my request not mentioned. But game was placed here at my account after agreement from Kurak and Rikus.

And it isn't a test of engine but game created on base of engine to show most of it's capabilities. Dizzy's speed is the most optimal for all PC's, always you can jump from very high, Dizzy will not die (if he don't jump in water [without special item(s) or spikes..). to pick up coins you need a special item.

I also don't know all platforms/formats on which original Dizzy was released so I wrote only those 3 to which I'm in 100% sure.

Gameplay is good, but it isn't one of those stupid easy platform games which are very often placed on web. Like in original Dizzy and like I mentioned in description this games needs "monkey dexterity and lot of logical thinking". So to past game you must try again, and try again to have perfection in each moment especially long jumps. So try again, few secrets area and capabilities of some two items, make game bigger for over 80%!

Change level of volume in game wasn't added like also turn of music/sounds cause it's using DMC2 object and Kurak didn't add this option. Option that you start from the beginning was placed by author for players which wouldn't like to try again. I said that it would be better to start from first area in game, but Kurak said that he thinks that better would be game restart, and he did how he want to.

First what you need to do is to talk with egg with sunglasses and find his lost item, it's in clouds.. I wouldn't say anything more, ou ok game have got 3 endings, Dizzy death, giving back a ball and... You'll probably find it

Chris very often but not always, most of your games need also huge monkey dexterity but a recognizable sign of Dizzy games is terrible monkey dexterity and need to think logically very often so don't take offence (truly I thought that you will write sth like that.. but I wouldn't) but I wouldn't reverse what I say.

Very nice presentation and general concept. Also seems like quite a solid engine.

Unfortunately, it seems pretty much unplayable. My guess is that you're probably meant to catch the monkey(?)in the cage to start with, but there doesn't seem to be any way of getting up to the platform. If you're supposed to be able to jump up there then it's impossible (I tried *many* times before getting bored and not playing any more, and that includes with trying stupid things like rolling down the steps for extra speed etc). If you're supposed to do something else, then you need to give the player some hints.

Cage isn't for cathing Poggie, it's strong so in good place it can help us to reach higher level. And hat is in clouds to get to it you must go up by stairs and don't jump left to grandpa but run in right and jump to the edge of screen for a new area, where is hat (which is possible to get). Like I mentioned it is mostly for dizzy fans

So don't worry that you think that it is unplayable cause it is very difficult and strange series, but thanks for comments

The game’s graphics and presentation are awesome, however in the original Dizzy he rolls on his head when he doesn’t land on his feet. I know this is very hard to replicate from a programming point of view but by leaving this out it just doesn’t feel like Dizzy.

Yeah, I understood that I was supposed to make a perfect jump to the cap in the clouds. But since I died several times while trying to perform this jump, I understood that the rest of the game was probably not going to get much better, so I gave up.

Dizzy roll on his head when he fell from medium high (from bigger he is paused for a moment and starts appear over his head, and from lower he jump on his legs, so it is in game).

Sorry for game volume but I didn't set it, Kurak throw it up.. One more time sorry.

Coins you can collect when you have an item from Leprechaun. With jump you must go as far with Dizzy as you can (he must be on first cloud only with finger [lol]) and you will jump there.

Cage must be set by cliff not at tree at start because, the game would be extremely short. Coins are available you probably didn't get 1 from lake where is key for grandpa and coin from grandpa. And puzzled are logical, you have hat, you give it back for a pair of flippers, next with cage you swim right and leave cage with oxygen you can dive for key and give it back to grandpa or go right.. You need to think and read text

I don't play Dizzy, but when I find a hat, rest was easy, and secrets where fun.

Lol, it's not logical that you're supposed to give a hat to someone who has dropped some random stuff. The game stops being logical in the introduction when that squirrel-thing with a tie manages to get a ball stuck in the clouds. But I don't think that the logic is the problem with this game, illogic games tends to be great.

What's a problem is that the only thing the main character can do is to jump, and he can't even jump well. And while you're trying to use his laughable jumps to progress in the game, you will usually die and have to start all over again, which takes a lot of time!

OK! That's it! All your positive talk about this game made me recover it from the trash bin and try it a few times more.

I manage to do the cloud pixel-jump at the first try, but then I leave the skippers on the wrong side of the sea, so I'll have to start over again.
After a few tries I do the jump and everything is ok, then I take the oxygen of by mistake while under water, and have to start over again.
Finally, I get into the cave with the umerella and die on the spikes, another pixel-jump?
Gaaaahhhh, why did anyone waste time making such good graphics, sound and code for this?!

when you get it going back is a lot easier.. And it's almost end of game

Making a game really hard is usually a bad idea nowadays because people can simply delete it and move on to something else.
we're not paying for it so we don't feel the need to have to finish it.

Kurak idea was to make a game hard as a originals, but IMHO he make it torture not a game

But it can give some fun, and can be ended

Phizzy, I don't know how you jump with the umbrella into a pit, I always jump over it, and to swim you need a flippers and to dive bottles with oxygen.. It's easy man

Them, like I said I wasn't responsible for graphics, engine and music I was a beta-tester and little help in translation nothing more, and I never played in Dizzy games, so I should have that problems and I passed it by third time cause I don't know how to swim, flippers are to swimming and oxygen tank is for diving. And two times I left oxygen tank underwater so I died.. And other things were for me as non creator and non Dizzy player or fan EASY.. So you know..

and yes flippers are used mostly to scuba diving etc. but in DYFA it's used for swimming

Finished the game, absolute crap.

I'm off to play Knitt, Stumps Dentures and games with well-made engines and great gameplay. I don't see anyone having fun in this walking slowly back and forth across a world you can randomly die in and have to start from the very beginning.

Hey, what's Polish for "throw Kurak under the bus"? lol.

And is the term "Monkey Dexterity" known by everyone but me? There's a lot of games where you only get one life, it's not that unheard of. It might need some more balancing so that the game is a bit more forgiving in places though.

Zethell [Headware Studios] what is bad in engine in your opinion? Also Introversity what you don't like in it? And why you think that slow walking?

Candy, is used in one of secret areas to unlock new secret area, which contains a very nice secret.

To game, it's really hard for some players which prefer easy, child platformers in which is full (unreal) control and lot of lifes. And in Polish "wrzućcie Kuraka pod autobus", but you can always turn off your speakers.

And about what bug are you saying Phizzy. Movement is 'slow' but it is easy to accustom to it. And I agree with you that those two perfect pixel jumps are annoying but they're can be easy deleted.

And it's secret where are those secret areas.. I can also say that you have to use 2 things which ball gives you instead of giving it back..

Your target is to give back a ball but to do that you must find umbrella which needs a lot of walking and giving/using correct items to correct persons at correct places.

Reminds me of Spuds Quest. It has sounds from spuds, the graphics look similar, and the readme is basically identical to spuds (I just checked it out). Saying that though, good game cupcake!

Ok, it's a good start. Graphics and presentation are great. The engine is okay but I think you should make Dizzy faster, get rid of the pixel perfect jumping, and give him 3 lives too.

Hopefully with these niggles sorted your engine will be solid enough for a full size Dizzy game, because I love playing fanmade dizzy games and I'll look forward to seeing yours.

Oh yeh, noticed you used a sound effect I made for my Spuds Quest (dead.it)

Like I mentioned Kurak created graphics engine and collected sounds. But in the closest game there would be save points, probably three lives, less perfect jumping (I'll try to reduce it too zero), and add some lives or sth

No he means that after you die it should jump right to the "start game" frame instead of restarting the entire application over. If you're concerned about variables / values carrying over, just make sure to set them all to zero (or clear arrays) whenever the start game menu fires up. I did this before too, and learned my lesson.

this is fun, i die, wait 5 seconds watching fade screens, start game over, repeate previous motions, die again, watch the fade screens AGAIN, continue the game, die, WATCH THE FADE SCREENS AGAIN, quit,

this is not "a better option"

I finished the game, didn't bother for the secret area,though I have a pretty good idea where it is.
The game has nice graphics but a lot of annoying things, such as pixel perfect jumps,unnecessary random rollovers that cost you the game...I lost at the spikes before the umbrella because the character decided to give a little show, the waiting of the starting frames everytime you lose,no hints as to what to do next.

It took me some time to find that you can use the clouds and some more that you had to give the hat to the guy for some slippers before you jump over the other side...and putting the cave at the hill of the cliff was a bit ackward too.

Besides those annoying things was an ok game.

Whole game is a load of crap "Get my ball" "I can't get in my house" "WARE IS EEET???" "Strong cage" And then the game kinda justs stops. The cage does nothing. Every thing else does nothing.

If you red comment you will notice that I said that you need to jump right from the grandpa house to find a hat for which you will get item needed to swimming and then you will be capable to use strong cage.
