Very nice little game, I loved how challenging it is, and the graphics are really cute. Just a few things:
-It was unnecessary to use three buttons. The up key for throwing the spear for example would save one extra button. Plus NES controller didn't have 3 buttons, did they ?
-I read in the readme file that the full game has 5 stages. Considering they are about the same length as the one provided in the demo, I think the game is too short, even if it's only 5$. Perhaps make the stages bigger and add a checkpoint or something.
-There are some weird bugs left off like some enemies going through the ground and then falling down and sometimes the character sprite is overlapped by the ground tiles, making them look as if they were transparent.
Fix these issues and you'd have a classic.
But as it is right now it's already a nice and enjoyable game.
edit: just played it again with the sound on. Lovely music and sounds, it really feels like a NES game. Comment edited by Johnny Look on 7/7/2010
I like 3 buttons, pressing up seems awkward especially when you're using a joystick, however if you do want it like that though you can change it in the config.
I really like this a lot Alastair, you're one of my favorite game designers!
This game was impossible for me until I switched it to joystick mode BTW.
A few things:
When you die do you always have to press ESC to go back to the main menu or am I missing something?
Does the guy's sword / javelins ever get more powerful as you progress?
Does getting a higher score do anything for you besides give you bragging rights? The reason I ask is a lot of those little blue bastards take many hits to kill and I was wondering if it's worth it to try and take them all out when you're up against a stingy clock.
Is this game all about ancient Rome or Greece? Any more info about it?
I'm on the fence about buying this, but probably will anyhow.
P.S: The guy who did the music really nailed the old NES quality, it's great!!
- Fixed some annoying bugs with enemies movement (no more walking through walls), thanks to AssaultAndy
- Should run better on slower computers or if framerate drops
- Bosses on stage 2/3/5 have been altered
- Some objects weren't being destroyed at times
- Less health in blue mode now
- Fixed a health HUD issue
Al, I hate to be "that guy" but is there anyway you could make something like this but with longer stages next time? Even if they were twice the length I think that'd be great. It's really awesome but it's also really short.
Oh and more powerups aside from carrots. If it's in Italy maybe grapes or olives too?
It's a fun little game that reminds us of the good old NES days. The game itself is nothing special, but Alastair has the gift to make sub-par game concepts great! Same he did with Ainevoltas2. Very good job. Too bad the game is VERY short. Only 5 levels and the later ones even get shorter than the first.
This is an awesome game ina so many ways, but for us no-time-to-play dads, a difficulty setting or something would have made it easier to actually see more of the game.
