OMG OMG OMG!!!!
im like a total nOOb to 3d modelin dis is like my 1st model eva LOLOLOLOLOL!
or not
I've been intensively working on my game engine recently- it has a 3 dimensional physics system and other features that make it the mother of all engines to write . I decided to take a bit of time out to make what will be one of the main characters in my game. It's not rigged yet, and i haven't set any morph targets, but you can see my handiwork so far. I was pretty pleased at how well it turned out.
I have had a few years practice at 3d modelling, but this is the first time i have actually modelled complete human from scratch. Tell me what you think.

That's awsome! Only thing wrong about her face is her nostrils. Maybe move them up a little and closer to the middle of the nose? What program did you use, because it looks very good.
its the eyes. theyre too stretched-looking.and slanted, she looks more oriental but with an african nose and lips? Mind, there probably are people like that in the world!
i've been playing around with the morph tool for the first time! I thought it would be difficult but it's quite easy actually. You just need to create lots of different versions of the face, and then alter them.
Her face will probably display at a max of 200px high in the game anyway.

I've been making more morph targets (and tweaking the ones already present), and now she can pull more faces and also i'm starting to add some DNA type morphs (changing the actual shape of her face etc).

Check her out now <link updated>! I've tweaked the lighting and some of the morph target, it looks a lot better. (she doesnt yawn yet, but that's next on my agenda)

Nah i know what you mean, the tips of the the mouth need to come in a bit more, but i'm re doing all the morph targets anyway, to coinside better with full body animation- i got this baby rigged!

Hmmm to accurately do that i would need an rigid body dynamics system along with a bipedal balance system that could cope with uneven terrain. Maybe when MMF 10 comes out
Since it's going to be a top down game, making a multi-step walk animation (and possibly random steps) would only be worth it if my game included zombies.

Hey ben thats pretty nice. It looks really alot better, but if im gonna be seriosuly picky, perhaps her shoulders are kinda quite wide? Mind, its alot better than i can do, Im very impressed!
Hehehehe cheers dude. You know working on a 3d character turns into something really weird after you've been at the same char for a while, you actually lose the ability to see what looks right and what looks out of proportion. I guess it's cus you kinda get used to what the char looks like and begin to accept that as the natural human shape. This thread has been a lot of help to the progression of this model. I thank you all <patriotic salute>
P.S. She now has a gun, a utility belt her legs aren't wonky! Starting to look more like a game character and less like an oddly dressed chimp!

Uses liquid nitrogen gas pressure to project solid steel pins at great velocities. The pins have a hollow centre, which allows the freezing cold nitrogen gas to flow up inside the pin, instantly cooling it to around -180 Celcuis. When the pin pierces a living organism, it causes instant immobilastion due to freezing of the blood. It will almost always disrupt the targets internal temperature, causing heart failure within a few seconds. It is used primarily as a sniper weapon because of its instant kill capabilities, and lack of the light or sound that would be produced by a conventional weapon.
TC12mm "meteor" pistol
----------------------
A powerful pistol that fires 12mm tungsten carbide slugs. It is capable of firing once per trigger press, or firing bursts of up to 5 shots. The slugs are coated in a solid chemical formula which liquifies when the slug is fired. The formula is very reactive, which is why the barrel and frontal cooling prongs are gold plated. When the chemical reacts with oxygen in its liquified state, it bursts into white hot flames. This gives the impression that the gun is throwing fiery meteors, hence the nickname. This is the weapon of choice of the yet unnamed character above.
Heh seems convoluted i know, but i'm quite into the idea of futuristic weaponry

I keep thinking that the eyes may be a bit too far from each other. If you look at your own face, you'll see that the "corner" of the eyes start pretty much where the nose's edge is. Hope you can figure out what i'm talking about
I know what you're getting at... I just tried putting her eyes a little closer together but she ended up looking semi retarded so i decided to leave her face as it is for now. Thanks anyway for the advice though. And thanks for the compliment.

Phart, he did say he did it in his "beloved 3DSmax" lol...so, he used 3DS max for the character and animation and stuff. I'm not so sure though if 3DS Max is better than Lightwave...maybe its just my preference...anyways, nice looking character and weapons ben, and nice ideas for the weapons as well.

Oh yeah, Maya is definitely the best out of all modelling applications...the features and the things it can do are just so nice and wonderful...I had a...*cough*...copy of maya for awhile, and I prefered it over Lightwave and 3DS, and found it was just so much easier to do the things you wanted in it, and you had more power to make things more realistic with ease.

Come now, expensive? Naw...Lightwave is only 1500 dollars, 3DS Max is...I heard 3500 pounds...dunno about in american, probably around that...and Maya is only 6500 dollars..not that expensive lol, especially when these products are mostly used in things that will bring alot more profit(Maya is the program most used for cg movies, like lilo and stitch, and madagascar), and Lightwave and 3DS are normally used by big companies for computer games...so...really they aren't expensive...plus you can also get all 3 of them cheaper for student purposes.

Yes, however, you don't need the power of those programs either for your guys purposes on TDC either...the point of those 3 products was for the big companies, not the home users...home users can use the popular warezed copies of the programs if they absolutely need to lol...and well, its not so hard as to take one course if you really want to say 90% on the price on one of them .

Hey, I was just saying they could if they wanted to, not intending to support or tell people to do it, its just one possibility. And well it wasn't a joke, it was quite serious, and well, you don't need to apply to university, just take a course or something in digital animation, and you generally can get a cheaper copy, which is how I purchased lightwave...although, I don't know if 12 year olds can take courses like that in junior high, so, can't argue with that point lol.
Oh, and blizzard uses lightwave.

Yeah, i knew max was expensive. I got damn lucky with my work experience though. I was on the "Trident" scheme, and most of my mates ended up shelf stacking and making coffee, whilst i got shown how commerical games are made and got tutored in the likes of maya and 3ds max. Damn, i feel kinda guilty now
I'd say the main reason why lightwave isn't often used by pro's is because its interface is drastically different from other 3d software, making it a pain in the arse to learn.

Well, I found lightwave much easier to learn and use than either 3DSMax and Maya, as I didn't even need to use a tutorial to figure out how to work things properly with Lightwave, although Lightwave isn't as powerful as 3DSmax or Maya though, and its alot more complicated to do animation with. I personally would prefer 3DS Max for power, for my purposes, however I'm done my D.A. courses, and I don't exactly have the money laying around for 3DS Max.
Yeah, thats pretty good though, luck or no. Oh yeah, I was gonna ask, is this character for your physics engine game?
