Let Sonic die. It's his time, and has been for a long, long while. Rather than further tarnish his already sinking reputation with yet ANOTHER sub par game; just let him drift off into the great gaming legends book. Put him in as a bonus character in a fighting/kart racing game or something. Let us remember Sonic as he was in his glory days; not as a character who's struggled to find a home (meaning a GOOD game) for the last 8 years.
Craps, I'm an old man!

Let Mario die. It's his time, and has been for a long, long while. Sonic was never a good series. Even the mega drive games were pretty average really, if you play them without the nostalgia goggles. Nobody would remember them if he wasn't Sega's mascot. But the recent ones... ugh. I don't know what the hell they're trying to do, I mean the blue liquid guy made for some neat porn, but it tells you something when the best they can do is to make a character that looks exactly like Sonic besides that he's GUNMAN with a NEW PAINT JOB and an entirely different WAY PAST COOL attitude.
Yes, let it fucking die. Put him in SSBM and then let him die. The only good thing that ever came out of that series was the Archie comic, and even that was fucked up horribly after a couple dozen issues.
The latest Sonic game I played was Sonic Adventure 2, so I can't say anything about the games beyond those (Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders) but from what I've seen, they don't impress me much. The Sonic Adventures were ok though. Unlike most people I've talked to, I prefer the first one. The trailer for the new Sonic looks pretty good, but I haven't got a chance to play it.
I'd really love to see Sonic in a Super Smash Bros. or Mario Kart game though. Mario vs. Sonic w00t!
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Apparently the new Sonic game is terrible - although haven't played it myself neither.
I liked all the Mega Drive Games - I always thought they were better than Mario anyway. But yeh, they've ruined Sonic now - should just give him up.
Sonic Adventure 1 : I thought wasn't bad at all, I enjoyed it a lot.
Sonic Adventure 2: Appalling; they mixed different gameplay styles, the majority of the game was played with either the mechs or the chaos emerald hunting mode. Only Sonics stages were any fun.
Sonic Heroes: Average. Became unnecessarily complex.
Sonic Advance 1: Ok for what it was. Dodgy collision detection and spikes appearing from the ground without warning.
Sonic Advance 2: Awful. Running boss battles were not fun, while the levels were huge and featureless. Hold down the right key, press jump occasionally. Thats your lot.
Sonic Advance 3: The best of the post-Megadrive Sonic era. Love this game, although a secondary character in tow isn't really needed.
Sonic Rush: Pretty lame. New "techno" graphical style, along with god-awful music makes this unbearable. Level design isn't too great either, especially the parts in later levels where you have to beat all the enemies in a room to progress. Sonic is about SPEED, these bits are boring.
Sonic The Hedgehog: Haven't played it yet, I might consider it when it gets to about £20. Reviews aren't too promising though.
Sonic Rivals: Haven't played this either, but it looks pretty fun actually. Shame its more of a racing game. Might get.

No way. Awesome music. Nice graphics, and the beating enemies to progress bit isnt that bad at all. The only down side would be the death-drops, and perhaps the ocassional easy boss.
Circy, you missed out Sonic Pinball!!! SUCH A GOOD GAME
Oh, and SONIC 3D.. which was ok, just pretty hard , SONIC CD which was like first console cd game? .. first and last on the genesis anyways :\ which was an awesome game and was really far ahead for its time.
Then more up-to-date there's Sonic Team Racing or whatever that is, and though I wouldn't find myself playing it any more it was a pretty decent and fast-paced game... Agreed that Sonic games have gradually failed to impress as time goes on - but Sonic the Hedgehog imo beats those crappy little Spanish brothers any day...
MORE IMPORTANTLY SEGA DON'T EVEN EXIST ANY MORE!! Who owns them, like Nintendo or sumin? (lol Nintendo is in my firefox dictionary thing.. anyway) Standards have dropped since the original team split up, so that for me is why Sonic isn't as good these days.
Well Radix, liked the sonic games before they became nostalgic to me. However i do see them in a different light now.
I own all of these games.
Megadrive
Sonic 1 Amazing in it's day, but actually really slow if you play it today. A little buggy too. Sonic looks purple for some reason lol.
Sonic 2 Imo the best sonic game there ever was. Took sonic 1 and made it 5 times as good.
Sonic cd I don't know why people like this so much, the level design is just... weird. Don't like it much. Actually seems like they took sonic 1 and took it in another direction (as the sonic 2 team did)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles A bit same old from sonic 2, except bigger and better music. I love the music in this.
Sonic 3d Not bad and has the best megadrive music ever, but not really a good gameplay style for a sonic game.
Master system
Sonic 1 harder than the megadrive version, great little game
Sonic 2 graphics are a little bland, easier than 1 though
Sonic chaos Tried to be like sonic 2 on the megadrive, good but slows down too much.
Gamecube
Sonic adventure really really buggy but still quite fun if you can ignore that and the awful voice acting.
Sonic adventure 2 fixed most of the bugs, but the different gameplay choices ruined the fun for me, also it just seems to have lost the magic of the earlier games.
Ps2
Sonic heroes starts off better than SA1 and 2 because of the classic music style and massive levels, however it's almost as buggy as SA1 and the team play thing kills off most of the speed.
Neogeo pocket
sonic pocket adventure Ok, like sonic 2. but limited by systems capabilities.
GBA
Sonic advance Really very good, but the level design and seeming lack of speed stops this being as good as the megadrive games.
Nintendo ds
Sonic rush I thought it was going to be really good, I loved the music (YOU HEAR ME!!) but the level design is really just run and jump, and there are far too many unavoidable deaths like running under a crusher or falling down a bottomless pit.
So i reckon it peaked with Sonic 2 on the megadrive.
