2nd Place: A copy of "Make Amazing Games In Minutes" OR "A Power Users Guide To Game Creation" written by Jason Darby
3rd Place: A copy of "Make Amazing Games In Minutes" OR "A Power Users Guide To Game Creation" written by Jason Darby
RULES:
1. The theme for this competition is simply "Winter". Interpret that in anyway you will.
2. You can work alone or as part of a group. However, if you work in a group and your game wins, you need to decide who will keep the prize as there's only one copy.
3. Maximum compressed file size must not exceed 30MB, and must contain the SOURCE file, any extentions and DLLs, and the EXE file.
4. We are unable to host game files - unfortunately you'll have to find a way to host them yourselves.
5. A select, unconfirmed group of Administrators and Editors will judge the competition.
6. Closing date for the competition will be at 11PM GMT on Sunday 30th December. Any late entries will not be accepted.
7. You may submit your entry and update/modify it as many times as you like prior to the closing deadline - we will not download any entries until the deadline has passed.
8. ONE entry per person/group.
9. The judges decision is final.
10. Clickteam will have no direct control or influence over the competition, and no TDC administrator or editor is permitted to enter. And, additionally, you may only make the game with a Clickteam product.
11. No nagging the judges as to when the results will be published. Yes, last year was a total cock-up but we don't plan on making the same mistakes again.
12. Entries should be sent via PM to myself containing the game name, download URL and the real name and address of the person recieving the prize.
13. Entries should NOT be submitted to the downloads page in any form, including demos, screensavers or full games until the competition deadline passes. Once the deadline passes, feel free to submit your game publically at TDC.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
Graphics: (out of 25) Quite simply, how good does your game look?
Audio: (out of 10) How well does the game utilise sound effects and music? Are there any sound effects or music?
Winter Theme: (out of 20) Does the game make full use of the competition theme? Having a simple white background with random sprites does NOT necessarily demonstrate this... only laziness!
Gameplay: (out of 25) How fun is the game to play?
Programming: (out of 20) How well programmed is the game? Are there any bugs?
All this comes to a grand total of 100 POINTS. Each judge will give their verdict, and their combined score will be the games TOTAL SCORE.
I guess that's it... if you want to win the prize, your time starts now! Unless of course, you have already started.
A website will soon be up.

Yaaay! The competition!
Maximum file size includes both the compiled exe and the source? If you can't make an exe (I'll be using the MMF2 demo), wouldn't it be unfair for the people who DO include an exe in their packed file?
Winter theme? December 25th being part of winter? Got it, I'll make a New Years Game.
Everyone celibates New years. In fact, in some countries, its bigger than Christmas. Or at least thats what my Ukrainian friend tells me.

Oh and I'm in! Alspal you better make something too !
Everybody don't want to share code with everyone so it would be cool if only Administrators get the source code. But if it have to share with everyone, its okay to me.
You can always upload two versions of the game - one with just the EXE made available to the public only, and one with the source code just for the judges.
By the way, we require the source code to ensure that no nasty surprises are coded in, for example, someone might think it funny to set up some code so that Notepad opens 1000 times. Plus we need to ensure that it's actually been made with a Clickteam based product.
Someone asked earlier but I didnt see a direct answer: So the zip file itself, containing both the exe AND the source file, must be no greater than 30 megs? (Its good to double check on these things before starting).

I'm guessing so...
People should learn to read.
Hmmm... yeah, well, it didn't look as obvious the first time I read it. Maybe I need more fiber in my diet.
the prizes for 2nd and 3rd are so exciting.... i always wanted a book.
but i'll enter because competitions are a good motivation for finishing something.
How do we know the judges wont flog our coding?
We're not looking for good programming habits or anything; the programming refers to the basic stability of the game and also adds in anything "extra" (Like your own Gool 2, 3D isn't easy to do in MMF at all, so you likely got extra points for that in the programming or coding category.)
If your game is a bug ridden mess that barely functions, expect a low programming score. If it's competently made, you've got nothing to worry about.
Err yea, but I'd hate to see someone release a game based on my framework with modded graphics from my source file and then have them claim it as their own .

If a 'game' (.exe) were to do that, then it just wouldn't win...? and it's obvious that they're all made with CT products?! If not just by looking at the exe properties, then by playing the game?
... Oh well.... I know the point you're trying to make anyways

No actually, creators copyright is only valid in certain countries, Australia (I think) not being one of them.

I don't think you would be any more safe than usual. I could make the evil .exe, and make a source file thats completely different from the .exe (you guys aren't dumb, so i'd have to make the look similar).
Hello everybody! I'm new here on the Daily Click page.
I will be entering this contest with my far-from-ready game (Although the game engine is about ready). My game: Project Armored Recon - Nordic Battlegroup. It is a tank game which is actually quite realistic. If you want realism choose "realistic" or a more arcade-like feel choose "Easy" or "Moderate" difficulty.
Features: 4-direction hit detection, advanced 360 shooting, enemy sight and obstacle detection, highly modificable and optimised game-engine (Runs with these features in 800x600 and can support hundreds of enemies on the same screen!), "advanced" AI, You can buy 9 different tanks with 9 different weapon layouts (+ upgrades-section), compelling storyline, nice music and sound effects, save & load game, "Tactical briefing" with "GPS, tactical or plain-pictures" and objectives , "four element engine" - almost every active object has desert, woodland, urban and winter camouflages and can be controlled via a Global value (In this contest-game-version I will be using mostly the Winter-camo and winter missions), minimap, smoke-grenade effects, infra-red -view + much more.
BTW this engine is now almost bug-free and works very well even though it doesn't have HWA and is made with the old MMF1.
What do you think? I can give you screenshots or a youtube trailer if you want.
There is one problem... How do I make this more winter-related game (In addition to Winter-war-like storyline and winter-themed-objects)?
Ideas would be great. Thank you in advance.

But Isn't it against the rules to submit something you've already been working on since long before the compo start date?
One knows when he started.
btw. My game is called "Downhill Jam Buttocks!" and it'll be xmas game. Engine, title screen and beginning is ready. Now I just start making levels : D
Actually, I started making the engine some months ago and some beautiful day completely fu***d up the file (I deleted the file by accident) and I stopped making that game for over a month. Now when one of my buddies said there is going to be a competition here at the daily click I started doing that game again. So practically I started making a completely new game but the idea of the engine was in my mind. I don't think that is against the rules, is it?
I'm not going to come up with anything super-duper (I'm working on another big game, taking like 50% of my time), but it'll be nicely coded. Doesn't that count!?
Maybe. I might make something people have been asking me to make.
There's some mild irony in offering books aimed at rank beginners at competition winners. If I get second or third, I'll donate my prize to last place.

I can't wait to learn to make amazing games in minutes
Maybe books from Jason are aimed to beginners, but they are good. I won one, and I think, that it's wonderfull. Erm, it's a pity, that I have no use of this book... but sometimes satisfaction is something more than prizes.
I hope, that I won't have the last place. Good luck to everyone.
Haha, I'm not dissing your punctuation I just love to take massive gaps between words when I see a comma - I mean REALLY massive and yes! It's fun times!
Slínka - I don't know English grammar as good as you, because I don't speak this language. I'm only learning a bit English in school, so I can't write too much without any errors maybe you should think about it...

(AUGH A CLONE)
Don't forget there are like 5 jury members who will have to test around 20 games, and then write a bunch of text about them... February sounds like an okay date.

I've added a new rule to clear up any confusion about submissions - it's on the original forum post:
Entries should NOT be submitted to the downloads page in any form, including demos, screensavers or full games until the competition deadline passes. Once the deadline passes, feel free to submit your game publically at TDC
Bloody hell we are only allowed to submit one game!
I don't want a book! I want my bloody TGF2 upgraded to MMF2+Dev.
If some one places first and you already have MMF2 please donate it to me.
Well, between getting ready to change countries and watching DS9 I'm probably not going to finish my entry, so have a youtubing of the engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkNCm33SxOo
I might bung together something together with it just to have an entry, but who knows.
Hey Radix, your game looks great! I love how the character makes snow appear on surfaces. The platform engine looks really tight. I hope you can find the time to pull something together. You could win with this game!
No, I always get screwed on the judging. I'm not going to have time anyway. The plan was to have megaman-style levels linked by an exploratory hub and a bit of a story, but that's totally out at least in time for the deadline. When I made that video I added in those target enemies just to demonstrate attacking, and I discovered it's really fun just to run around breaking them, so I was planning on having little timed bonus levels (basically like the target breaking minigame in smash brothers, though probably some other types too) that could be unlocked by finding them in the main game.
Now I'm thinking I'll just scale it back and basically just have the bonus levels linked by a mini-hub. I might end up doing more or less, but it just depends how much time I have which is something I won't know for a while.
We'll see.
My project, PAR-NBG, is going to be ready soon. I also got some new cool features in it. Well, actually I have made 0 missions ready, but I have drawn the missions on a paper and written the storyline ready so it won't be so hard to put them into the game. Engine and menus are ready.
I've been busy 26h/day trying to manage the last school projects. I'll hopefully be able to start making something tomorrow. That sucks, cause I have a really good idea which will be quite impossible to finish in a week. But shame on me if I don't try.
I'm so glad the deadline has been extended, now I should have time to polish the game up. hooray!

School always tries to stuff as much work as possible in the month December, which is the reason I never really had time to get things started or done over the years. <_<
I was close to finishing, then I couldn't compile the levels together in TGF, so I downloaded the MMF2 developer demo, and then I realize I still have lots of work to do, and now I might not get done. I'm leaving for London Thursday, I have no laptop, and my brother cant do it for me. What if I have to drop out? If I were one to cry, I might cry.
If someone with MMF2 wins first prize, can I have the copy of MMF2?
GRR i wont be able to finish my game because it crashes for no reason at all when i go to the next frame, and i cannot for the life of me find out what the problem is. I hate you mmf! i hate you with a passion!
Hey guys, ectoprods is down for a week, so send entries you need compiled to shabadage(a)gmail.com. I'll be happy to compile any I recieve, and as long as you have it in my inbox by the time the compo ends, it'll get entered in the compo. I'll be up late tonight, but not anywhere near a computer; so it may take till monday to get things compiled for you, but they won't be disqualified as long as the project is in my inbox by the time the compo ends.
Actually, we didn't, we just said to make sure the grid is visible, considering you were using tiny tiny squares. You're the one who said you were taking it out of the compo.

Yah I know, thats why I made started making gridquest, just to spite that <3

.. Is it ever up? Sorted the domain then, you like the design? ... sorry, this is off-topic D:
Ben will be submitting SilverNova's entry to the compo within the next couple hours. DAMN it's good, haha! norly ;_; Cant wait to play everyone's games... I presume once the deadline has exceeded, that people will be adding their games to the downloads section.
The response that the games recieve on the downloads section wont sway any admins' opinions I hope... :\

dude you're asking someone to give you something worth 369 $...lol
I have absolutely no doubts mine will take 1st place. I put incredible amounts of time and effort into it, as either Circy or Shab can attest if they sneak-peeked the link I sent.

Just to clarify, send your entry to me ONLY if you need it compiled; I've gotten a few completed entries in my inbox that don't need compiling. We'll play the games after everyone has submitted theirs. Again, it's shabadage(a)gmail.com

We're coming along at a steady rate. I've judged about a third of the entries so far. I'm writing really lengthy comments on all aspects of the games submitted in order to help people improve their future games. Hopefully it won't be too long.
Rikus, after all this time, you just NOW change your avatar??? Or have you waited on purpose so you don't fall prey to those 'dc admin' games? (Yeah, i know, a little off topic, but i couldn't resist, sorry.)
Edit:
Tim: yes, i'm very afraid that that could be a possiblity in the near future. Perhaps i should get it insured?

All platforming problems can be mostly solved here:
"The running animation could have been a bit better. If you hold both left and right at the same time then he faces left but moves right. I think that having to hold control to run is a bit unnecessary."
