Allright, so for the past day or so, I got bored, so I decided to make some graphics.
After I made some graphics I got a nice idea for a quick little game.
But now after I started this game, I realise the grass tiles I have look weird.
I was wondering if this is just me, or do you guys see it to?
Any advice on how to make this better?
Thanks

@AndyUK - I know what your saying, but when I try and do this, It always ends up looking weird.

Something that I have also been looking at is the brown under the grass, I think that has something to do with this, but I have no idea what to do with it.

I think im going to keep the white lines, its kinda the style of the game. Ya know?
But I'm going to take out the diamonds.
They were like a test to see if it looks better filled in than flat, but I guess that, people liked it better without them.
Any other ideas I can do to the dirt/rocks?
Ive added some more shading to the platforms though. (On the side to give them a little more depth. I think it turned out good!)

oh gawd i can't edit my post now.
I was going to say i flipped the little chunk i copy/pasted.
Maybe some indentations or holes in the mud might be good so it doesn't get too repetitive.
Well you had the right idea with the diamonds. Something other than plain brown might looks more interesting anyway.
Argh, this is confuzzeling. D:
I like the way I have the grass now.
Especially with the shading I added, and tomarrow I will add a new picture.
So im mainly worried about the dirt.
I thought the diamonds looked kool, but at the same time it kinda distracted from the eye a little.
Thats not what I wanted to do.
I dont want them to look like rocks though, I mean, millions of platformers do that.
How many have diamonds. ;]
Hahah.
About the white lines though, I think I like them, I dont plan on taking them out.
I've tried taking them out though, and the game looked weird with the characters, rope, signs, text boxes, etc.. all outlined in white, and everything else not.
So pretty much..
Diamons/no diamonds?
Or any other ideas are welcome!
Actually id like some more ideas, dont be afraid!

Darker diamonds.

Actually Kalle T, if you look close enough the black outlines i used for everything are only on the outside of the sprite, none of the outlines actually go in. (if that makes sence)
I just used a darker shade of whatever color i was seperating.
But Ill try to use a darker green to seperate them and see how it looks then.
Darker diamonds are on their way

I think the white lines on the ropes should go. Firstly, because it looks weird to me. Secondly, because much of the detail in the rope is lost as a result of the high contrast between the white outline and dark rope. I also don't think they should go above the top of the platforms - they look weird just floating in mid air.
As I've already said, I like the diamonds, but if you dedcide to lose them, you should definitely add some kind of texture to make it interesting. Rocks, bones and other buried stuff aren't really appropriate because you're not looking at a cross-section of the level (like in Worms for example) - some "platforms" are clearly further in the distance than others (you can see the overlap).
Hmm, the diamonds remind me of the tiles used for Sonic the Hedgehog. If you're gonna use them, try making them smaller maybe. If not, why not add an occasional detail such as a few stones, a couple of lumps of mud, maybe a clump of grass sticking out etc.
Some Sonic cd levels use a lot of triangles but those are much smaller. I can't think of a game that uses diamonds though.
anyway if you choose to stick with diamonds you could experiment a bit and make more than one thing. Give them a bit of depth or make loads of different sized ones (so long as they tile up well though)
Hmm, the rpoes do look kinda weird when ir eally look at it, ill try and do somethign with those.
And Im going to experiment with the dirt a little too.
Hopefully this all works out
Oh, and If any of you were wondering, I dont care if you edit this at all.
Go crazy

quick edit; not neccessarily any better than the original, but it illustrates what I was thinking (except it turns out the background needs the white outline after all).
for the earth tile, you can place it at different height when several "eath blocks" are near... because actually the tile seems to continue on the others blocks (do you understand what I mean ?)
I was just to lazy to do it originally - the way the pattern fill in Paintshop Pro works, you have to select each block individually (also quite hard to explain). You could also maybe try mixing in the diamond pattern on soem blocks.
Ugh, I did something with the ropes, and I think it looks good (stole Sketchy's idea with the top of the ropes, but drew it by myself )
And now,im trying to do the dirt (again stealing Sketchy's idea, )
So can you explain how you did that?
When I try and do something like that, it looks funny

not much else to say about it really - the only thing you need to worry about is making sure it's going to tile seamlessly (making tiles symmetrical often helps).
I trust you're using a graphics app capable of filling areas with a pattern?
