Well, first of all, I hate doing this, it is always the thing that sets me off of doing games in the first place, and click team seems to be clueless as how to make the editing tools flow well as far as using other utilities. Currently I am using MMF 2 Dev, and spriting in photoshop. Every time I open the file up into MMF and set what color the transparency, there always seems to be a ring of shit that's close to the transparent color, but not enough for it to be considered the transparent color, so I spend a good part of my day erasing each pixel one by one, which is not very fun. I know that when I save the photoshop files to PNG or BMP it for whatever reason automatically distorts the picture a bit, so does anyone know a way around this?
And as far as importing goes, is there an easier way to do it? In various editors such as RPG Maker and Torque, they allow the use of tile maps, so rather than cutting and pasting like a jackass, you can pre select the size of each frame in one picture. I am trying to make a few successful and professional looking projects for my portfolio, but I'd like shave off a few months from just graphical crap, which isn't even my freakin goal in the industry.
I was having this problem the other day. I would make sure that you that when you save, save using "save for web/devices" then on the right side (i'm using CS3) you have the option of saving it as a PNG-24. Use that and make sure that "Transparency" is checked. I hope that helps.

That it does, thanks a bunch, although I have to make sure it's perfect in photoshop, or else freakin, it get's all screwed up with the alpha channels if I move it. Now, concerning the other issue, I recall seeing a button that looked like import as animation, or something, but I can't find it again, does it exist or am I just imagining things?
the import as animation button is on the import screen after hitting that little folder thing on the sprite editor. It will only let you check it if the program recognizes that the files are named in order i.e. pic1, pic2, etc.
Hello guys! I'm New! -- I've been new for a year now...haha
Mayby you should deactivate anti-alias in photoshop. Antialias means that the programm makes the outlines of the sprite smoother by generating your ring of shit

Sorry douche bag but saving as PNG(which has transparency) is the only way you will get rid of that ring of "shit" Just use the damn import option, its the little file in the picture editor at the top. Copy and pasting it doesn't do shit, it won't copy and paste the alpha channel jack ass. So there you go. If you have a problem maybe you would like to make your own picture extension?

I could agree with what Dude said, though not necessarily how he said it. The OP's general tone and language aren't the choices for seeking help. "ring of shit," for example, gives me the idea that he's really saying "tell me how to fix this you fuckfaces." Like he's looking for instant gratification instead of learning so that should this problem arise later he'll know why it's happening instead of just remembering how to fix it.
But calling people douchebags is not cool.

Alright, dumbfuck, for the last god damn time, who the fuck said I was copying and pasting? Did you fail school or something? I'VE BEEN USING THE IMPORT OPTION. Fuck, even the two damn people above you actually paid attention to what I was saying. I guess we're stupid, huh? We know all about computers so we get a stiff dick about trying to out geek the rest of us without actually saying anything constructive, seeing as how everyone who can fucking comprehend ENGLISH answered the question CORRECTLY. I applaud your efforts to try and explain my language, but it's just language, don't get your damn panties in a bunch because you really aren't adding to the solution. Once again, if you read my posts and some of the other posts, they are doing quite a good job of explaining it, as well as how to fix it, WHICH IS THE MAIN GOD DAMN REASON TO POST ON THIS FORUM. What the hell good is understanding something if you still cannot reach a conclusion?

You can't behave like that in a forum, have you read the forum rules?
Umm, somebody said saving for web png. But that's not important, i use import export all the time, i even use jpegs when i don't need the alpha channel, but photoshop in png saves without any problems.
The problem u are having is that u pick the transparent color. Instead use photoshop empty layer, you can easily import alpha channels, and blank background round the pic. Without doing anything in mmf2, just make it in photoshop.
I hope that helps.

Others have said use PNG, which is true. JPG and BMP don't support transparency, so you'll still get the ring. GIF and PNG-8 do support transparency, but semi-transparency is set against a matte colour, still giving the ring. PNG-24 and TGA support full transparency, and those should work. To save as TGA you'll need to select "Save As" instead of "Save for Web," and I think you have to make a dedicated alpha channel.
You can't import a tile map without having to cut/paste. You could make a Photoshop action that cuts the tiles into easy to use pieces, though.

That's what I meant by cutting and pasting, post import. That's usually what I do, I have yet to try the as animation button, which may actually be easier with the rest of the information given.

Whatever, dudes. He acted like a boob and I called him on it. That was far from abuse, and if anyone thinks that was even close to abuse, then whatever, I really don't care. All I asked was a simple damn question, and I'm sure we don't need a bunch of self important assholes acting like it was the dumbest question anyone could possibly ask. I can see if someone was acting like that any where else on any other god damn board, but this is the one place where we really don't need it. My point is, HE DESERVED IT. And if he wants to go cry to mommy or cut his dick off, I really don't give a shit, I do not take that bullshit anywhere, not at work, not in class, on the street, not in my marine corps and certainly not from some little bastard who thinks he knows nothing. It's really stinking simple, but I know most of you are going to dick it up, I can be your best god damn friend, or you can kiss my ass, and I know damn well I wasn't pushing anyone into being a fuckoff, so try not to act like one.

Easy now, we don't want your head to asplode.
You do realize that you got the warning AFTER you decided to reply in an even worse manner than he did? It's not really an issue if you believe he deserved it or not, since this isn't work, class, the street or even the marine corps ! It's a code forum at a game creation site, and it needs not his acting up nor yours. That's why we have the Admin Alert button, because no one is allowed to act like that here, provoked or unprovoked.

No offense, but it has nothing to do with you or anyone else so butt out. The only mistake I acknowledge making is posting it on the board as opposed to sending him a PM, which will happen if this occurs in the future. It's the same concept when it comes to censorship, if you don't like it, don't read it. And a game creation site should embrace it more than any other kind of site because it is based on creativity. I doubt anyone here is a strict coder, in fact, from how I remember this place before, members were flamed for even suggesting having someone code for them.
But how are we to know what you have written if we don't read it? It's not that complicated a deal, in these forums, you try and behave, for everyones sake. If you misbehave, someone will point it out to you.

The fact that I'm going to use the PM in the future is the result of the second part of my post. There is obviously no point in speaking my mind if it denies me the use of knowledge most users on TDC offer, although it pains me that anyone who would claim to be a creative soul would have such strong opposition to free speech. I believe that you either have complete freedom or no freedom, but if you choose to cross the line and attack or slander someone who did nothing to you, than that person should be free to return it back on you tenfold. I did nothing to anyone other than the guy I yelled at but for some reason you've been extremely condesending toward me. You can honestly tell me that everyone wants a well behaved forum, or even that I was misbehaving. Sure, I used foul language but so what? They are words. Once again, you can choose to read it, and you can choose to not read it, but you are going to sit here and say that I'm most likely a bad person because of what and how I choose to word something? I'm sure I could have gone around that and typed an essay that said exactly the same thing, only nicer, but that was far from what I was going for. Nothing says I hate you more than "Fuck you" or a punch in the face, and until they invent the printer punch or kickmail, I'll stick with telling him to go fuck himself. I know for a fact, I'm not going to change your mind, and you aren't just going to jump up and say "Oh well golly gee there Johnny, you're quite a guy, I think I'll buy you a beer", so just think about it. I am not going to just go and insult someone out of nowhere, but if someone does it to me I will throw it back at them, whether you like it or not.

And then pretty soon those uppity women folk'll be wantin to vote.
honestly this thread is making no positive sense. We have all came here for one reason, and that is using click products. If we are no long talking about click products or contributing to the atmosphere of game design, then it should be deleted. I know somebody has the power to do it. Whether it be the original poster or an admin. If you original problem was solved then great. If not, then you can repost the question. There is NO reason to have to get UGLY on the internet. NO matter if one was provoked or not. If one went out IRL and told somebody that they got in an argument online over some program settings they would sound pretty da** silly.

This thread was designated for a question, yes, but if the subject changes and people are talking about it, should we ignore it? Should this thread be moved into the general discussion thread? Maybe, but if no one will do it then should we bother not even addressing or communicating back at all? Obviously no one arrived at TDC because they liked the taco dip, but like outside of TDC I'm sure everyone has there own personalities, quirks and traditions. I know, at least for myself, I would like to get to know the people I work around or inquire, but then there is a designated area for that. But is it stopping you from posting a question of your own in the Code-it Forum? No, in fact, you would have no knowledge of any of this arguing if you had never clicked on here and bothered to say what you said. As far as getting ugly on the internet, I'm afraid that is more than impossible. I fail to see how things can get ugly without physical contact. Once again, these are all words. You can choose to read them and ignore them, hell, you don't even have to hear them. And once again, none of this even had anything to do with anyone other than me and the other guy. I came on here expecting that I would be reading a post that actually added to the solution, instead one that felt like he needed to create a problem. I try my best to ignore pointless posts, but unfortunatly I am not going to ignore a direct attack on me.

We're not all over the age of 18, hell some of us are under the age of 12. Just like you would get frowned upon for tell a 12 year old "F--k You" we frown on it here; mostly because you could indeed be talking to a 12 year old. That's where the admins come in. That is oh so true!
EDIT: To summarize what I mean, if everyone choose to adapt the "eye for an eye" mentality, this place would be utterly horrible to visit, since everything would be an enormous flame war. You have to understand, I'm not trying to diss you whilst following the rules, I just don't want TDC to become a more hostile place where the one with the best cussing skills rule. There is already enough hostility here as it is.

Well then that's where I differ from most people. I find it redundant to shelter anyone no matter how young from anything life has to offer. It's the basics of society to deny knowledge, which is absurd. The fact that swearing is considered bad language is nothing more than bullshit religious propaganda. I was once denied employment at Wal-Mart just because I swore at the guy. That was his excuse, but it had nothing to do with it. I showed up in a nice shirt and tie with dress pants, and the interviewer was some kid in a cut off shirt and tattoos all over, and this guy was a manager. The dickhead had the nerve to tell me that I was unprofessional, all because I said damn, when he couldn't even find anything in his own damn store. Swearing as bad language is nothing more than another poor excuse to not deal with a problem, and a just a way to control another person. The fact of the matter is, I don't give a damn if some 12 year old comes on here acting like a idiot, I will yell at him too. So what if some dumb kid sees "necrophilia" on some admin's signature and goes home to ask mommy what it was? The internet is a glorious wealth of information and porn and if someone has the nerve to try to shut down one website because some kid was acting like an idiot and another guy swore at him, they WILL NOT get very far. There are thousands of web forums just like this that allow younger kids that extremely lax when it comes to language. The fact that you have posted in here twice just for language is no different than a police officer attempting to arrest someone for hopscotch or flatulence.

The way it usually ends up in these forums is- if someone doesn't like the way you're behaving, they will point it out to you, regardless of if it is misbehaving or not.

Well, there is that, but at the same time I have been mentioning to people to just but out. I find it hilarious that all of this discussion has come out of 2 posts. You know, if everyone wasn't so busy trying to "prevent bad things from happening", this would've only come down to his initial retard post followed by my rebutal and then it would be done, end of discussion. Focus more one the bandwagon, because that's where most flame wars end up. If there is an argument between two people, let it be. Sure you've got a great opinion, but it's not your fight, it's there fight. If it's heated, stop adding fuel to their fire. You know, I wouldn't have had to post my second "SHAB GIVE WARNING" post if we didn't have 10 people going "Two head up asses" or "You made the poor moron bleed his vagina". No one gives a damn about that though, and we all end up with what we had here, two people say mean things to each other, then everyone else has to win the god damn lottery too and always one guy has to add "OMFG PWNED" or something like that. IF ANYTHING, admins should jump on trash like that more than anything. I swear to god I stab a baby every time someone seriously usues "lol" on anything other than a computer. And ROFLMAO? What the hell? After a while they cut off the MAO and left it with like Rolling on the Floor or something. Why are we rolling on the floor? Are we on fire or something? I don't get it, but no one does anything about that. But anyways, if Shab or any other admin really cared about the language, they'd put up blocks, so that every time someone typed fuck it would type "f#&!" or "banana" or something. They could change lol to "I FAILED ENGLISH" and PWNED to "I drink pinesol". I'm not 100% sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason any of us got yelled at were anything more than seniority or familiarity. Who cares if you friend acts like a nut, let's blame the new guy.
Well, then I guess I'll butt out, cause as you said, my responding only adds fuel to the fire.
But you have to understand, the only reason for all these replies are your strict unwillingness to respect clearly stated forum rules i.e behave in a manner so you won't intentionally offend people just because you are pig-headed and cover it in this glorious drape of right to self-expression.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for freedom of expression, but if I choose to put myself in a situation made possible by others work(in this case TDC) where I have to interact with others there, I like to have the decency to atleast respect the author's and most users' wishes on how we should behave. Because by logic, I'm in a position of gratitude before the people running this site, it works as a free service for me from which I can hugely benefit. I can't afford to put my personal wishes first and foremost if they largely differ from the majority of the community's if I intend on using this site for my personal benefit.
If I felt that I was unable to comply with these rules, I wouldn't be here, and chances are, I wouldn't be allowed to stay anyway.
With that said, I will now gracefully step aside from this topic and not disturb it any more.
Sincere Regards //EE
jneumann1, from what ive just read your the sort of person we all dont need to see around TDC. Give me as much abuse as you wish, i dont care, but for somone new like yourself to come in like that is laughable. Maybe its not my place to say but relax or go somwhere else with your rants.

I like this guy! He is down to earth and indeed he addresses the real problem. Posts like "pwned" or other posts that belittle other members just because they are new, or made a mistake should be immediately deleted. This isn't 4chan, this is a moderated forum and it should act like one. Good call jneumann1, sorry I was a dick to you I didn't realize that your post wasn't meant as offense it was just merely how you express yourself in type. I hope you fixed your problem with the pngs. I used to have the same problem but saving the file as PNG in photoshop, and then using the animation editor in MMF and clicking "import" I was able to solve the problem. When you import it don't pick a new transparent just use whatever the default one it lists, which is usually black or white.

Something told me you were one of those guys. And see, that was my god damn point, if everyone just left us alone, let us insult each other then realize we aren't exactly enemies, then things would've been okay. For crying out loud, this has been extremely great, and I hope most of you feel freakin stupid.
But as far as my first question goes, that was my exact problem. I over thought it and figured since it said to pick a color and black was instantly selected that it would work similar to another editor I used and make every black color transparent, so I posted a color background with a color that couldn't be confused with the other colors in my png and picked that color, and sure enough it made the color transperant, but left a ring of slight blue around my figures. Once I just used a transparent background and left it alone it worked fine.

Well, I fail to see how I'm pig headed seeing as how just because I don't censor my language, I don't say anything other than insults, I've seen at least 30 different people saying all kinds of stuff that would make any mother cringe, but it's perfectly fine just because they censored the swears. I personally don't give a damn about what they say, but if the same guy telling me it's wrong is going to come out and say that I'm disruptive? Hell, I've done nothing wrong. I don't think you're a bad guy, but I think everyone is just being a tad bit hipocritical about this.

Whatever dude, if you actually read into this, I'm not exactly new. I used to use The Games Factory as a kid and I've just started up on MMF2 to make a project for my portfolio. You're the kind of person I just talked about. You just sat there and listened to me talk about nutjobs jumping on the bandwagon, and you did just that. I don't abuse, the only person I "abused" was DudeHuge, and that was only because he directly insulted me. But obviously he came out and apologized, and I apologize to him, so therefore it can't possibly be counted as ABUSE. Maybe I don't know the internet term that abuse stands for, but I know that in real life, any of the shit we said couldn't possibly count as abuse, and since neither of us went to a moderator and claimed abuse on either of us, then how the hell is this even a discussion?
