A Mario Brothers Spoof. Featuring a character of mine, Stephen a.k.a. Triumph, the cold, antisocial 16 year old with a curse bite from the Dark Wolf. I'll be saying "75 points!" every time I throw something away from now on. The character at the end is Drawcula (If any of you remember that was my first acount name. )

And of course I celebrate Halloween- big time! I didn't want annoying kids to ruin it. If I don't say so myself, I think I captured the imagery of fleeing children quite well.

This here is Chip. He's friendly, Outgoing, and always wants to explore unknown lands and worlds. He was originally a fictional character made for a children's series by an elvish author, Syrian Lode. Syrian died just before the 8th of 12 books in Chips's series were completed. Chip somehow became material, and whatever happened to him in the stories, happened in real life. Here Chip looks at a picture of his Author. He would have loved to meet him, even if Syrian was as cold as ice.

--WIP--: An attempt to color in the above picture. It's not very good, unfortunately, mainly because the cape looks abit rubbery. Sorry if everything else is black. It's all transparent areas but my current host thinks not. I need to get me a webs...

--WIP--: A painting of a city called Holdings, sister city of Haddings. Only a clock tower so far... but it's a start!

Maybe more later. For now I just want to sit my ass down and chill out!

Okay, so the piece I have to contribute is actually a work in progress:

Image

This is of the enemies that Captain Plokey will encounter in the alien complex. The robot starts out in a "caterpillar" form and, after a certain trigger, will morph into the mech form. If you've seen the game's project page, you'll see an much earlier (and uglier) version of this sprite. You can tell I'm still working on this sprite as it completely lacks the upper legs. You may also notice that I've tried to give it a "battle-worn" feel by sprinkling in a few dents. When I finish the sprite, I'll make sure I repost it.

Here is an "old" storyboard sketch for one of Captain Plokey's cinematics (yes, there will be a few cinematics). It's one of a long series, but it's about the only one I felt comfortable showing without giving "too much" of the story away. I had to blot out one small part, though.

Dang, Jess! Great lighting on the sprites! And I really like the storyboard illustration too. It looks so classic, and it looks like it fits in with, and sets the tone for, the rest of the game. Excellent work!

Thanks, Werewolf!

I've been reworking that sprite a lot. It will be one of the primary enemies for Captain Plokey and will probably appear on most of the levels. Considering it has that much "screen time", I really want to make sure it looks good.

Right now, I'm in the process of animating the sprite's walking sequence - which has been a challenge. It's one thing to draw a sprite, but it's a whole different world when it comes to animating it. The level of effort and amount of time required just skyrockets. I've spent a couple of evenings just working on the torso/head rotation alone. Next will come the arms and legs (which will finally force me to finish the upper thigh). If all goes according to what I'm envisioning, it'll be smooth (10 frames) and have a nice "heavy" feeling - rather than the "gliding" feeling it has in my current walking sequence.

I'm glad you like the storyboard! A number of years ago, I drew all of the storyboards for the Captain Plokey in a sketchbook (complete with all of the effects I wanted to do in TGF/MMF). About the only storyboards I didn't have were for the ending. I shared about 10 or so of those scanned storyboards with Assault Andy when we started the project together. I may not have time to draw the pixel art for all of them but I'm certainly going to try to do the opening sequence and one other. I think it'll make the story that much more compeling to the player. Without the story, I think the player will not feel the plight of the character or get the mood I'd like to convey (which is probably darker than the main character sprite might lead you to believe).

Cheers.

Yes, yes, YES. Ugh... I wish everything would just magically animate itself. That would be SO handy!

@Hayo: Very cool! I like the expression on the guy with the Hamburger tie's face.

Also, just finished this some time after school today.

Image

I'm not sure how happy I am with it overall. It feels like the shading is off on some places and some areas have been completely forgotten about being shaded. D: I kind of like the wood, nose, and fur textures, though.

Edit: Misspelling done fixed!

This is an old, unfinished concept drawing of Bonmo, Hero of Time and Space ("and Space" added to his title to differentiate from that other, more popular guy). His helmet was inspired by Agamemnon's in Time Bandits, and samurai masks.

That's incredible looking, Blendroid! Seriously, that's great! Did he lose his left arm, or is the drawing incomplete?

I'm a huge fan of Time Bandits... Terry Gilliam at his best. Good to know other folks know "the classics."
