Review: Star Angel
Author: Rick (AntiMatter Entertainment)

Average:7.25/10

The universe is in peril because of the Deviloids, an alien race in control of the five mystic Sever Gems. You're the pilot of the Star Angel, an ingenious invention that has a selection of weapons and ship parts, all suited to destroying or outwitting a different type of alien scum.

Presentation:
The game is well presented, but the window is fairly small. Still, the author (Strife) has allowed a simple dragging resize to fit everyone's needs. The map screen is nice and user friendly, as are the shop and equipment screens. The only problem here is that the above screens are mouse controlled, while the actual game is controlled via the keyboard. However, they work well and the user can see all of the changes they make.

Gameplay:
The gameplay consists basically of moving and shooting. However, there are several different types of enemies that all have different attack patterns (with the exceptions of the eyeballs and small drone things) so you have to think about your moves. There's also a variety of tough bosses with different attacks. Your ship is very destructible so you have to pace yourself and make get used to the enemies. A choice of weapons, ship base, and others makes the gameplay much more interesting and varied, and the gem ray system is unique and works well. Special abilities such as the gem magnet and cloaking field are also a refreshing change from the standard space shoot 'em up. There's also a strafe key that can add some tactics to your blasting.

Graphics:
Star Angel has average, but clear and smooth graphics, and a nice surprise is that your ship looks just like how you customize it. The black space background doesn't do much for the game, but it works and it suits the mood of the game well. Some nebulae or planets going past would have worked well.

Sound And Music:
The music is a high point of the game and it's thankfully original, and very fitting. The tunes work well with blasting aliens. The sounds work well and they've been picked for the right situations.

Lastability:
The game features a random adventure which has a different map each time and keeps you coming back, and also has an arcade mode so you've got something something else to tackle if you complete the adventure mode. The game's difficulty can be changed to make the game more challenging or easier, although it's still not easy on Rookie mode!

Overall:
This game is a recommended download for anyone who wants a different space-going experience. With its variety of ship possibilities and nice array of enemies and bosses, it will keep you coming back for more again and again.
