This intersting platform engine features good physics when objects are hit by bullets and explosions and the objects then bounce around off walls and floors. All objects can incorperate these physics easily including the main character, projectiles and enemies(as in this example of the engine).

This was the start of a promising game I was making but I decided instead to focus on Crimson Blade. It is fun simply to shoot the barrels and other objects around as well as shoot grenades at them.
Controls Are:
Left, Right Arrow Keys - Move
Shift - Jump
Control - Shoot
/ - Shoot Grenade
Down arrow key - Precise aiming mode for shooting and grenading (use arrow keys to move reticle).

You should notice some small bugs that mostly have to do with the "experimental" way of shooting, but thats not the point of this engine.
PS: I would rather you didn't use the graphics in this engine and it is open source basically to show people how to do these things, not to use this as the start of the game.

PSS: This engine can only be edited in MMF.

Crazy go nuts! I forsee some cool things in the near future due to this...

Posted by hop 15th April, 2005

Yea isn't it cool? Nowhere near enough games include good physics on this site, even for the main character. If I have time soon I'll make a version with good commenting in the code(currently it's basically the group names).

This is really neat ;) would be perfect for a first step towards a realistic 2D shooter. There are a few problems (for example, the jerky push-back from the walls and being able to duck in the air) but the physics work very well. Perhaps a bit floaty =P but maybe you did that to emphasise them. Being able to aim your shots is also a good, underused idea.

Yes I made the floatyness on purpose and it very easy to change that. I made it open source so someone could fix the bugs.

I agree.

so what you're getting at is a community collaboration? good idea, maybe everyone can all pitch in and help fix problems in the engine, and learn something while you're at it XD

Posted by hop 17th April, 2005

Yes, I think many people can learn something from this, and a community collaboration would be great. If anyone advances considerably on this engine/game, post it up open source!

http://www.sitesled.com.. SUCKS

Leto - That has absolutely nothing to do with this game, and actually, sitesled is pretty damned good (1GB a DAY?) sure they have their problems, but they are one of the best free providers.

Posted by hop 17th April, 2005

Whats wrong with sitesled? Nothing is better that I have heard of, and if it doesn't have anything to do with the game shut up or post it somewhere else.
