My entry for the game-builer 20 event game contest

Xtreme box + is a puzzle games which involves puzzling puzzles! You can mode in four directions and once you have chosen a direction, you are dedicated to that direction until you hit something.

There are numerous different blocks throughout the game:

Speed lock:
You will only be able to get across this block by moving atleast 1 block before moving through.

Direction block:
This block will only let you pass if you are travelling the direction it's pointing.

Movable block:
You are able to move this block by bumping into it! It can close off spike pits and other stuff.

Switch block:
The switch block will turn on/off switch blocks, allowing you go either go thorugh them or not.

Spike block:
This is the spike ball! It's a baddie, don't touch it or you'll DIE! There are also rotating spike poles.

Controls:
Arrow keys - move

Have fun =

I love the music.

I've played this type of game before, but yours is by far the best I've played!

I hope this game gets a flash version.

The speed locks only work some of the time. I have to keep moving back and forth before they activate.

The Switch blocks sometimes have problems as well if you hit them in quick succession.

I agree with UrbanMonk; This is a quite common concept, but I've never played a similar game wich was nearly as fun.

My only tiny complain: In this kind of game, the levels should be numbered to ease the "Tips request" process.

Fierce competition right there.

Some of the puzzles were quite well thought out too. Music is charming, but gets a bit repetitive and could've used an additional track or two. Level graphics are entertaining, but the title/menu seemed a bit hastily done, more like an afterthought. A little polish there would've been in order, me thinks. I also experienced some of those things UrbanMonk referred to, but they're not too critical or anything.

Overall, I was fairly impressed. Finished all levels too.

Good luck in the contest. I'll be participating too.

I really like this! I loved Puzzpower back in the day and this brings a whole lot of new ideas. Haven't completed it yet but I like the fact that it saves your progress. I agree that the main menu could be a little more polished. That's the only part where I'd say it feels like a 20 event game, but other than that, I wouldn't have been able to tell. I'm rating this game with consideration to the fact that it was made for the GameBuilder 20 event competition.

Mack Tanner:
Most of those blocks on the right seem to just be traps/decoys. Took me a while to figure it out too. ;P

Proceed to the first switch block near the center, hit it twice (by going back and forth) and go up to the other switch, hit it twice too, then right, down, and left and you get to the other side, which is fairly easy to figure out already. Just make sure to push the movable block to right and down so you can reach the exit.

@HitmanN i dont know how the game YOU played works but this game built in mmf2 r249 is completely broken with movement and collision bugs galore, built in mmf2 r248 is fine but has the same switch collision bug as the THIS exe version. as i will demonstrate in a moment. id really like the exe or mfa(and mmf2 revision# you built it with) you used hitmanM in which the game is NOT broken.

broken switches when the switch is 1space away from player.

btw i even looked through the events and added some of my own debugging and fixed the switch bug. when your movements are only 1 space it never changes the speed to > 0, and therefore doesnt register it as a move, also making the switches broken because the switch code requires that you be going speed > 0 to turn switches on in order for the collision to work.

so again. how the hell did it work for you HitmanN? its broken in the exe and ive built it in multiple revisions of mmf2 including hwa. its broken in all of them.

after i fixed that bug everything else seemed to be fine. you might want to adress this solgyrn. can anyone else verify this bugs existence?

That bug seems to happen on older, slower computers. My friend had this problem too :/

That bug happens on my "old" (2-year old) computer too. Win7...

K, I loved this game. I so want to know how to detect collision of blocks and whatnot. I'd assume it would use Fastloops. But I can't seem to get the same effect =\

i couldn't even play this game, i guess my computer is way too old.

funny game but so hard i like the music and the graphics is good and amazing to just be 20 events! how can that be possible its a five for me even some little bugs i had =/

The "slow computers" version was incredibly slow, whereas the normal version played at a normal frame rate. Weird.

The idea of this game has been done before, but it's fun and challenging. So here's a 4.
