Please enjoy the soak test for my game Gobs of Ghosts. The game is essentially mechanically complete. The game here is presented without the final boss fight, and the sounds need to be reworked slightly. I need some other people to play around as I've reached the limit of personal testing.


The game is very inspired by NES classics, in both presentation and gameplay. I have made an effort to avoid the cheap deaths of those style of games however. One hit kills do not exist, however you can fall down pits. I do hope you enjoy the game! There was a story, but really, it didn't add anything to the game.


Please note that this is an android game, and several times during gameplay use of the mouse will be necessary for menus. This is pretty much all menus. During the game the keyboard will work for controls. The game should be available on the Google Play store in about a week for free, though it will be ad supported.

Arrows - Move
Shift - Jump and double jump
Control - Shoot weapon
Space - Switch weapon slot

I didn't expect this game to be THAT difficult, but it was worth a shot! Amazing work!

Although, I have just finished the first boss, so after I gain some more free time, I'll make sure to beat the 2nd spider boss.

I will say this, you are your own worst enemy. You can run through the level fast, but it ramps up the amount of things to deal with. Thank you so much for testing this! If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Question; What software did you use to draw all the things in the entire game? Was it something like for Undertale?

And also, do you have Moon Minions?

I drew everything in fusion itself. Unfortunately, I do not have Moon Minion

Ah, crud... I thought I could archive it...

I mean, you DID say in 2004 "Hell yeah, I'm DLing this one.", so I just thought that you had the game.

Knudde (Shab) the game is good but really hard. I have some suggestions. First suggestions for PC can put a feature in where you be able to change the controls because I don't like the controls with shift and control for jumping and shooting. I prefer it for Jump to be X and Shooting to be Z. Second can you change the first level's (The level at the top left) music be more creepy than what it is. Third can you add a pause feature.

I also encounter two bugs. First when you go to the game over screen and press yes to continue. You go to a black screen that says Blobby! Blobby! Can you fix it in where to continue on the game over screen. You select yes and it reload your last checkpoint and keep the no option how it is. The other bug is where the character would lock up and not move when your pressing the arrow keys. And I had to jump to unlock myself. And this caused me to lose health when I didn't want to.

Anyways I will further update you on suggestion when I beat the game. Keep up the good work!

I will look into changing the music, however due to me selling the game and Android not supporting Midi, I am extremely limited in what music I can use.

Handy note for #2. Press control+y to switch controls.

Thank you for the bug tracking! I shall look into those! A note on the continue, That will be staying the same, it will reload the level, but not the checkpoint, much like the classic MegaMan games.

I truly, truly appreciate the time you've taken to test this. Thank you so much!

Can you also fix the resolution of the game?

It's REALLY tiny BTW!

Also ConvertingBoi the reason why the resolution is like that because this game is designed for phones.

Knudde (Shab) I played more of the game and I came up with more suggestions and found more bugs.

Suggestions:

Change the choose and perish text on the level select screen from black to white. I say this because you can see the text but in my opinion you be able to see it better if it is in white.

Bugs:
1. In the 3rd Level (Level that is on the bottom left) I encountered a bug close to the first checkpoint. In where I fell in the void on the right of the checkpoint and I don't die. I landed on something (am guessing there is a platform there) in the very left and right of the void. And I would have to move right or left to kill myself.

2. In the same level I saw a object in light purple with the number 1 on it ( I don't think that isn't suppose to be there)

3. Also in the same level I fell I got on the pillars.

4. In the same level again. I fell in a void and I didn't die. I landed on the pillar on the very left and very right but this time I was on top of the bottom and had to move to kill myself.

5. On the title screen I tried to go to the manual but I can't.

Anyway that's all I found so far I update you further when I play the game tomorrow. Thanks!

Perhaps give the enemies black outlines so they don't become invisible when overlapping the background?

That's a bit hard to do as the graphics have no black. I'm still throwing around the idea of colored backgrounds while I deal with endless Android runtime issues

Yeah all of your blacks are just transparency.
If you actually used black outlines on your active object's art it wouldn't change the look of the game. It would only make things easier to see when they overlap.
