Voxel - 3d Pixel
------------------
I may have misled you with the title a bit, as this isn't true 3d, but merely a 3d effect, similar to GTA and GTA2. Zenith provided me with an example, and I expanded on it, generalized it, and commented the crap out of it. If you have any questions about how to use/impliment this in your game, then just post below and I'll answer it as best I can.

The screenies suck, but they get the point across of what this does.

I always thought that GTA2 was a 3d world using just 2d sprites.

This is so cool. And Dines, it IS. XD

Awesome! I needed this, for I am too lazy to make real 3-D.

Heh kinda reminds me of those 3Dish looking backgrounds in the old Sega Genesis/Megadrive Sonic games (or the spike balls in the 1st Robotnik boss in Sonic & Knuckles).

Nice one Shab. I remember seeing a game that used this effect many years ago...can't remember what it was for the life of me... I was suitably impressed at the time and always wondered how it worked

Pretty good. This does remind me of GTA for the GBA. Someone should use this in a top-view game!

this is awsome as hell

Ah, good job. This is just like something a former member of my old game making "team", Mantiz did.

Now, I wonder how long before somebody realizes that this can be done using a bunch of layers of system box objects in MMF.

Posted by DistantJ [FZ Games] 13th February, 2006

What this guy did though was he had the objects positioning themselves depending on the camera, so the stuff nearer the edge of the screen pointed outwards but the stuff in the middle was upright. I'm not entirely sure how he did it and don't think I can be bothered to try and work it out, lol, but there's a challenge for somebody eh.

This does position the stuff based on the camera, that's what that green circle is.
