In an attempt to be more active (on the internet) I'm going to ask you all a question.

If you could take any franchise (game or movie) that is either driving itself into the ground or isn't doing as well as it used to, and you could head up the next installment, what would you make?

Choosing Sonic as an example, because everyone seems to think that Sega is killing him, I'd make a game where Eggman tries to transform the world into Eggtopia by going into the past with the Chaos Emeralds and changing it. If you collect all the Chaos Emeralds, you can turn into Super Sonic in any level afterwards. In the regular ending, Eggman is foiled and Sonic and his friends live happy, then in the credits Eggman finds an emerald, and at the end you see the planet turn into Eggtopia. If you have all the Chaos Emeralds, then Sonic goes super to stop Eggman, but Eggman uses his new Chaos Wave Jammer to absorb Sonic's excess energy and go into the past. Sonic makes a shield just before the timestream is affected and ends up in limbo between the paths of time, called the Chaotic Timeflux Zone. After reliving parts of his old adventures, Sonic ends up in Eggtopia Zone and fights the final battle, called Paradox.

...
...
...

So what would you do with your favorite franchise?

I think Billy Hatcher (by sonic team) could have been bigger, especially a sequel for the Wii would have been cool...loved that game

Using Sonic as an example. . . again

Go take the Sonic 3 (& knuckles) engine. Redo everything in HD, and make about 20 levels out of it. Release this for Xbox and PS3 for 49.99.

Problem solved.

Actually i'd love to make a Sonic game, there is a wonderful MMF2 based engine in the world at SFGHQ,

The only problem i would have is music, if i can find someone to make music for it i'd love to start anytime.

Bring back the EXE section of the Rockman series! Actually, since most people don't like that series as much, it'd be more just for me... SFGHQ... I haven't been there in AGES. I wish MMFGHQ had stayed up...

Captain Andyman should make another Tops game with next gen graphics lol!!!! I loved that series, infact and this is true TOPS 3 was the first game i ever downloaded off the Daily Click and it was the first title i saw crowned game of the week!

I also think that »Ben« should make a sequal to Gauntlet Runner! (GR is my number one click game of all time).

Oh the irony of this post. I actually just started a Sonic "Tribute" Fangame a couple days ago. It's basically my way of trying to pay tribute to all the classics, compared to all the shitty 3D games we've got released now. A game with a half decent story to it, some original graphics, full 360' engine, the works.

I don't know how well it'll turn out, but I've been working my ass off these past couple of days, trying to get this engine right. I'm only just now adding rings into it.

I think the Sonic we all knew and love, despite the game itself being decent, died with Sonic Adventure 1. Dr. Robotnik is NOT Dr. Eggman, and even though I can accept the idea of Sonic being older... that'll never remove the image of the good old small little pudgy hedgehog with short arms and legs, a big head, billy bad ass amplitude with a golden heart, a taste for chili-dogs, and the voice of Urkle.

Please can Sonic die now. Even the 2.5D Sonic's have been less than good, reverting back to the cumbersome Master System style physics. No more new games. Just leave it for god knows how many years and release a new version to which the old fans will froth at the mouth for.

My fave franchise would be Zelda but they need a big scenery change. Ye Olde England is nice and stuff but a futuristic or steampunk Zelda could be very very good. Worked wonders for FFVII.

I like to think I've moved on to bigger and better things...

Anyway, franchise-wise (see my rhyming skillz) if it's not going well it's usually just as effective to start a new franchise. Since most people have lost faith in the Sonic series SEGA should really come up with something new IMO.

I never really liked the Sonic games, probably because the only one I've ever played involved only holding down the right key. Are all Sonic games like this? If so, then the franchise cannot be improved without changing the basic engine, and in effect making a new franchise.

The DS ones have the right-key syndrome too. From what I played of Heroes, Adventure I and II all you do there is hold up. I mean god I love the Mega Drive ones, and maybe Sonic Advance 1 so I'm not against the series, rather what Sega are doing to it.

My favorite series is the Seiken Densetsu / Mana series.

Sadly the series is being driven into the ground, it hasn't been good since 2000.

They can't seem to decide where they want to take the series. Recently they've done:
Sword of Mana- A remake of the first game that ditched all of the awesome magic elements from the series.
Children of Mana- A stale dungeon crawler that also has terrible magic and a dumb story.
Dawn of Mana- The first game in the series to be in 3D, beautiful graphics, innovative gameplay, but was pretty flawed and the story SUCKED.
Heroes of Mana- A real time strategy that works on a grid system... bad mix.

What I'd do with the series is take the combat back to how it was in Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3, that's when it was perfect and insanely fun.
The magic system from Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 would be back as well. It was SO perfect, why they changed it I'll never know.
Weapons! Tons of them! Final Fantasy Adventure (Seiken Densetsu 1), Secret of Mana and Legend of Mana were LOADED with weapons for you to use! Being able to choose from a huge arsenal is awesome fun.
Weapon and armor creation. Legend of Mana was awesome in that you could make weapons and armor from whatever dropped off of enemies.
Pets and Golems. Catching monster eggs and getting a baddie to fight alongside you is just plain cool, and building a golem and setting up the logic he uses in his attacks? Sweet!
MULTIPLAYER My favorite thing about Secret of Mana is getting two of my friends and rampaging through the game. Three player on the SNES is way too cool. Children of Mana actually did good in this area, which is surprising cause it got everything else wrong.
RING MENUS. Just because.

And the main thing the series needs to get back to is a good storyline. They've been too childish lately. They need to go back to the way they were in Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3. They were gripping and had lots of twists that kept you wanting to see what happened next.
I won't subject y'all to what I think a good storyline would be, I've already written so much x_x;

Yeah, so I love this series a lot. Is it any wonder I run the best fansite for the series on the net? www.seikens.com *shameless plug*

I'll be a little different with my example. tehe

I chose the METROID series. I understand that the Metroid Prime games are highly popular but they just don't sit right with me. I love some FPS games like Duke Nukem 3D, Serious Sam, Halo etc etc etc but even though I'm a big fan of the old 2D Metroid games Prime wasn't my cuppa tea. I think it's because I'd always end up being stuck and just searching around aimlessly until I ask someone what to do. I prefer not to be slowed down like that in an FPS - I just want to shoot stuff.

So yes I say don't abandon Metroid Prime - It's doing well but please bring a traditional Metroid game to the DS or something of the sort!

I was discussing this the other day with Nick and Slink: Croc. I think they should make a new croc game. I adored the 1st for the PS1, then they just seemed to stop after the second, probably because it wasn't as popular as the first Croc had a good feeling to it though, the music and gameplay was great.

Also, they need to do something about the Spyro series. Don't know what the new game's like, but pretty much after the first game it went downhill IMO. They introduced crappy, poorly designed characters like... a cheetah and other various crappy animals, and gave Sparx his own mini games/levels and made him more of a character, which I don't really like much. Sometimes I think these gaming studios just give in to a bunch of unimaginative nerds, who can build up 3d models, animate them and code, but can't actually design very well, which is equally as crucial. The companies play safe by letting them spew out crap that would perhaps only please 6 year olds. It's either that or they're rushing to make money... Probably the latter

OH ALSO, even though it's not dying, and I adore it a great deal: Animal crossing. If they're making a new version for the wii, I do hope they update the style of it a little. I love it, but it's come to the point now where I think it's time for a stylistic change. Perhaps still funky and cute, but maybe slightly more realistic?

Im hoping they'd put more features in too, and not just the usual couple of shops, museum and town hall, but perhaps also other shops, places to visit etc, and animal families would be cool, too.

Edit: Downloadable items for Animal crossing Wii would be cool, too.
